The cunt didn't even need to mention those details to get his "Er not sure if you're allowed to makes jokes about this" point across.

Nigel Lindsay played Peacecap Johnson in Brass Eye, and was a regular in TAIS too.[/size]I'm still cautiously optimistic about this, despite my misgivings regarding the clip. Fingers crossed for more PROPER jokes.

Be careful how you refer to it, An, I have now guessed what it is from your analogy in the chat room.  That journo is a tit.

Yes, we'll have a new thread for actual reactions, once people have seen it.

Interesting info, TP, will have to look out for him, I'm due to go through TAIS for the first time in years soon anyway.  Thanks for the link, pikey, I'll archive all these on Monday.

EDIT:  VVV OK, good to know An, cheers.

Oh Jesus, sorry Neil. Fuck. Of course I don't know what you're guessing so you may not be right. Don't read the analogy too obviously (in hindsight it does seem to strongly suggest something I wasn't trying to suggest.)

Would anyone be up for a CaB meet of sorts on the day of the release? It'd be good to see it in the company of a load of Morris fans, perhaps in a nice arthouse cinema like the Barbican or the Ritzy in Brixton, and to get nerdy about it in a nearby pub afterwards. Seriously, would anyone be up for it.
FUCK YEAH, I would love to meet everyone and hear the groans about the film as I praise it relentlessly! Whatever happens, I will be adamant is it is the greatest thing ever made and that I will cry with laughter. I would adore meeting everyone and watching it together so we can all criticize it together. This is the best idea I've heard in ages, especially as I love the Ritzy and how they serve Hoegaarden and loads of other wonderful stuff for a cheap price and at a magnificent cinema.

Getting motion sickness from a shaky camera? That's the least cool thing I've ever heard.

Who said I was trying to be cool?

To be clear about it: I didn't actually throw up, but I felt like I was about to for around two hours afterwards, really strongly.  The last time I'd felt that nauseous was years previously.  I'd never had the problem with other shakycam shows like Nathan Barley, but there was something about the sheer relentlessness of it in The Thick Of It S1E1 that set me off.  I did try to rewatch it a couple of days later but had to hurriedly switch it off as I could feel it happening to me again.

Even Armando said in an interview or two that they were going to tone it down for the second series - it seems a few people had said to him that he'd overdone it.

I should stress that it wasn't particularly objectionable in the Four Lions clip above, I just wish it's a directorial habit CM would get out of, that's all.  I'm still massively looking forward to the film, and depending on date and money, would certainly be up for joining in a viewing meet.

I'd be up for a meet up to watch this, not because it would be great to watch it with people who have a genuine appreciation of the quality stuff Morris has produced over the years, but because I want to witness the moment somebody literally falls out of their chair laughing or witnesses the funniest thing they have ever seen.

The downside is the potential to be around folk who try to criticise something I actually quite enjoyed, thereby spoiling my enjoyment of it after the event. Really though, I don't think it'll be that bad, so yeah, all in - I'd be up for meeting with other VWs to see this.

I promise you Artemis, if anyone even dares to criticize I will be the first to belate, destroy and exclude them from any form of communication with us ever again. No one has the authority to EVER oppose his new film and I will be authoritarian enough to enact wild violence on anyone who dares to ruin my day. It will be perfect, along with the film and anyone who disagrees will be hung drawn and quartered, you have my word.

An unexpected review from Aint it Cool, which might spoil the ending slightly:  http://www.aintitcool.com/node/43741

There's a slight whiff of the reviewer wanting to consult a few friends before deciding what his opinion is, but it's generally positive.

Did not expect Four Lions to be a relationship/character film. Really liked it.

Any chance you can tell us a little about your experience of the film Jesse, if you're reading.

Have been showing plenty of non-Morris fans the clip, and the response has been universal laughter. Hysterics, in one case.

Hell, I'm kinda tempted by the idea of going to London or wherever for a group viewing if the release date were suitable.

Since every review seems to be spoilery, I cant read any of them. Can anyone who has read them, summarise (without spoilers) what the recurring good/bad points seem to be?

It would be much appreciated.

Great physical comedy, the odd emotional moment, light touch with characterisation/plot/themes, wacky antics, top performances with the occasionally underdone bit of script.

Yeah, one dude eats a Pot Noodle, factory mother fuckers forgot to pack the sachet of Soy Sauce. Pretty sad. Not a spoiler >>> Yeah, really.

Anyway, film sounds funny, at very least.

At my age (29), I'll take 'funny' over 'biting' or 'hard-hitting' any day of the week.

Quote
I thought it was great; it's a slow burn to start, but I think that once it has bedded in, Four Lions will prove to be one of the most original, provocative and enduring comedies of the early 21st century......Though it's not technically very flash, Four Lions has an intelligent and emotional subtlety that could be risky for its immediate commercial appeal. Morris doesn't labour his satire, he concentrates on character, just as Ealing did, with the result that Four Lions is the most engaging and fuzzy-warm film about people who want to kill you that you'll ever see......I don't want to spoil too much other than to say not only is Morris's film a deliciously subversive comic ride, it truly gunges up the synapses with so many conflicting emotions while the one-liners are flowing that the only thing you can do is give in to its demented logic and laugh, all the while praying that you'll get your moral compass back when this whole thing is over. But my saying that this isn't just the usual pandering to Morris's envelope-pushing prowess: it's also thanks to a brilliant cast, notably Ahmed, who really shows a brave and mature talent here. I have a feeling that broadsheets and tabloids alike will take potshots at this film for its more out-there moments (Omar openly shares his martyrdom fantasies with his wife and young son), but the reason I think this film is so important is that its Asian actors are so within Morris's world, and so up to speed with his humour, that it articulates an inclusive viewpoint on suicide bombers in which the whole notion of 'them and us' does not just boil down to race: it boils down to them, the idiots, and us, the people who only see horror in extremism. The traditional, liberal way to deal with anything as bold and brilliant as this is to look for the flaws, to find that bit of the canvas that isn't quite shaded and say, 'Look! There's a bit missing!' Or it's to side with the establishment outrage and pretend to be different by saying, 'For all it's immaturity, there is something significant here.' Personally, I think Four Lions is a creeping, under-the-skin classic, a comedy that will reward viewing after viewing and might ultimately best last year's In The Loop for quotability. And by the year's end, who knows what the result will be? Either Chris Morris will be in hiding in Salman Rushdie's broom cupboard or the phrase “Fuck Mini Babybel!” will become a national treasure. If there is a God, an Allah, whatever, it must surely be the latter.

The review isn't spoilerific at all, the author deliberately holds back on it.

Could someone start up a meet thread for this film once some times etc. are announced please. For I'm just nervous about reading this thread and encountering some spoilers, from now on, the less I know about this film, the better.

Thanks to those who flagged up the spoilers in the reviews, much appreciated.

I'm currently trying to find out through nefarious means when the premiere is likely to be, but it will probably come to nothing.

According to http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt1341167/fullcredits, Alex Macqueen (Julius Nicholson in The Thick Of It) is playing the part of an MP in Four Lions.

I'm now looking forward to this a little more.
