Sat in the pub earlier and hit upon a great idea if your friends are boring. I need to make some kind of device that you can push when you are getting bored by how the conversation is going, preferably one that makes a loud buzzing noise or summat that lights up. If there were 3 people in the conversation then just 2 buzzes would meant that the talker would have to shut up and try and think of something interesting to say.

Is this a terribly shite idea for a gathering of people, someone said it sounds a bit like a WKD advert, or a genius invention that noone has ever thought of ever in a million years?

Also is it a good idea conversationally? Would it aid the to and fro of charming debate, keeping people on their toes and making sure that they are never dull. Or would we simply degenerate into a society that shouts "Tits!" "LOL!" "Fanny!" etc?

I simply don't know.

My friends and I already do something like that. If someone's talking bollocks, one of us makes a swinging forcefield motion with our arm, to lock them out of the conversation.

Yeah see, that is good, but I was thinking more a general consensus thing. So if 3 peoples "boreometers" light up or sound then you shut up. Also you don't need to be as aggressive as facepalming someone, the subtleties of lights going off should be enough for the bore to get the jist.

What we do in our family if someone is talking shite, is to loudly interrupt them by bellowing the phrase "REALLY, HOW INTERESTING". It's nicked from the alien school sketch from Harry Enfield.

As as test run why not just make the "bzzz" sound with your mouth and see how long it takes before you are no longer with a group of friends in the pub.

Or get the Family Fortunes board game - it comes with a hand-held buzzer that does that really annoying "you've fucked up" sound. It's not totally annoying at all.

Yes its rude. Yes its easier to make a BzzzzzzzZzzz sound with your mouth. But my idea is FUN! Honest.

Imagine the fun you could have silencing that interminable bore of a friend you have that won't stop going on and on about his one good idea that isn't even that good. It would be great!

The obvious solution is to not have any friends, thus avoiding this whole situation.
