Word filter, HappyTree. Temporary I should think although if you've been reading the rest of the forum you've probably worked that out by now.

The book is officially out today and I'm delighted to say that the publishers have offered to put some copies up for a special forum draw. I hope this doesn't break the no-advertising rule. It's kind of still on topic and I did think people here have been really helpful so it's good to offer something up like this. Anyway, I hope it's still okay. If not, I can remove the post.

This is what Rob at the publishers sent me and I would add that just to show you're from the forum, include the collective name for people who post here (small clue: VWs...)

"Simon & Schuster UK are offering users of this forum the chance to win a copy of DISGUSTING BLISS: THE BRASS EYE OF CHRIS MORRIS in an exclusive competition. All you have to do is send your name and address to comps@simonandschuster.co.uk and include the subject heading "CHRIS MORRIS" and ten lucky winners plucked from the hat will receive a copy of the book, with two of these also receiving a boxset of THE DAY TODAY. Good luck!"

They'll draw the names next Tuesday, 6th. Thanks! Lucian

Ooo that's a good prize. If its already in the shops then how is it 'officially out today'? Bloomin publishing industry.

I didn't know my book was available at all until someone messaged me saying how much they were enjoying it. That was a few weeks before the release date.

They give an official publication date but in practice books are often in the shops beforehand. Gives them a chance to truck out all over the country.

I think I should win a prize myself for the dullest answer ever.

What was your book?

The Clue Bible: The Fully Authorised History of "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue", from Footlights to Mornington Crescent By Jem Roberts

I wouldn't mind a copy, or a DVD boxset come to that, as I've still only got the proofs and check discs.

got this a few days ago from amazon, on chapter 7 at the moment, really enjoying it, really glad the whole Lee & Herring thing was included in detail, that quote from Lee on the aeroplane was interesting, made him sound very bitter indeed.

Ditto.  Delighted to read about the radio shows in so much detail, I was led to believe it all started with On The Hour, but there's a healthy chunk of Cambridgeshire/Bristol/GLR stuff in there.

Got mine this morning and took the liberty of having a day off to read the whole thing today. It's an excellent book Lucian, and I think the strongest material is the stuff on Brass Eye in '96'97, in that, like Revolution In The Head,  it just reminds me of the
sheer level of attention and care that went into that show and makes me want to go back and look at it all over again, even though I have lost count of the number of times I have watched it. I'm glad you don't subscribe to the 'mysterious genius' line and push the detail of the extraordinary level of hard work that was going on. I felt the palpable excitement of those working on it and felt again the anticipation of sitting there as episodes of Brass Eye went out, genuinely not knowing what was going to happen.

So much more to digest! I'm still swilling it all around. One question (if you're taking them!) - you mention the Sutcliffe sketch being cut, but what was the deal with the un-censoring of the Moss Staples pope line, the drunken Christ and the 'no room at the inn' bits, which popped up in the repeats but not in the original?

I'm trying to resist the urge to burn through the book too fast, but I can't help myself. It's totally surpassing my (high) expectations, and I'll have plenty to comment on when I've got to the end.

For now though, before I forget, there's a bit about MP Nigel Evans being surreptitiously blacked up over the course of an interview, before racing Morris to the toilets so he could check himself in the mirror. I remember this story cropping up on here before, years back, where it came from an interview Morris did with, I think, some sort of fanzine. At the time, I swear that CaB came to the conclusion that the interview was a hoax, and the people behind it had never spoken to him. I remember the interview being strange, Morris at his most flowery-mouthed, almost to the point of being incomprehensible, but I can't find it now, and it's not sourced in the book. Does this mean the blacking up story was independently verified, and that bizarre interview was actually genuine? Or - seems incredibly unlikely, given the fantastic research in this book - a hoax interview was mistakenly used as a source?

Jemble mentions his book in a completely innocuous comment and he only brought it up because it was relevant to the conversation, and was in no way intended to be self-promoting

Sat down this morning to make a start on the book and in between taking my oldest son to a party, shopping at Tesco and having my younger son jumping on me throughout the afternoon finished it having thoroughly enjoyed it - then got an email from Amazon refunding me 45p in their pre-order price protection on my order for it...

We've already sold half of the copies we had in at Rough Trade. In fact, a friend of mine came rushing in asking if we had it, as he couldn't find a bookshop in East London that was either open or selling it. I told him he should have come to us first. Whenever I sell one, though, I do wonder if it's a 'Whore buying it!

Nah, that's way too "old media" for the modern reader. What you want to do is pop into a bookshop with a scanner and OCR software, scan it in and upload it to the device of your choice.
