First two episodes are available.

First episode, 'Rebirth', is pretty good. Horrible gaffe towards the end but other than that I enjoyed it. I didn't like the second episode so much.

Not great, Billy West seems to have forgotten how to do Fry's voice and Bender was just pointless and annoying all the way through.

Maybe it's just that I'd completely lost faith in Futurama after the awfulness of the various movies, but I thought these were great. If nothing else, getting back to the 20 minute format has done wonders for the pacing.

Just watched these two and mildly enjoyed both. I hope it picks up a bit because it could go back to being ace. I also hope they don't do any more jokes in the "V-GINY" vein, because that was just wank.

Not as good as Ugly Americans, but better than the movies.  Still kind of wish they'd just left it at "Devil's Hands" - it was a perfect way to end, and everything since has only tarnished the original run.

Also, what's up with all the nudity?  It's just awkward.  I mean, in anime you kind of expect some fanservicey stuff, but in this it's weird and jarring.  They did it with the movies, too - pointless leering "YEEEEAH YOU KNOW YOU WANNA FUCK AMY AND LEELA" scenes.  Just me bothered by this?

No, it bothers me too. It panders to those low-lives on the 'net who get off on drawing incredibly detailed and coloured pictures of Marge going at it with Homer, or worse. I can't see the point in it - Leela's supposed to be hot and yet inaccessible but once they have her, as in one of the movies, taking a communal shower with the entire work-force of Planet Express, including Phillip J, then what's the bloody point ? And don't get me started on Amy doing the horizontal rhumba with you-know-who after Kif's funeral

Showering together isn't such an odd thing, you could justify it as sort of being a joke that people are much more open about showering together in the future and don't see anything sexual about it. But yeah it's a little suspect.

That wasn't new to the movies either, they all get naked together in the hot tub on the Freedom Day episode and in the steam room on the episode when they go to Zoidberg's planet for the mating season.

The first one I preferred to the second one, but it still all felt a bit...shoddy. I too noticed the odd gaffe that in previous episodes would have generally been effortlessly avoided.

Still, good to have it back.

I was apprehensive about watching these, but they were better than I had feared, though still seemed cut from the same cloth as the films rather than the original series. I can't work out if that's an objective thing or just my perception though. As folk have pointed out, there was plenty of bawdiness in the original series too. Perhaps it's unfair to compare them at this stage, when I've watched the DVDs countless times and only seen these new episodes once each.

It definitely benefits from being back to it's usual format, though having said that both plots felt like cut down drafts for more films. The V-Giny one in particular, despite harkening back to The Why of Fry, felt oddly paced, cutting from one story to the other for ages and then just wrapping everything up in a couple of minutes.

Still, good to have it back and, rather than being a comic book guy (heaven forbid!) I'll remain optimistic that it can get back to classic status soon enough.

I enjoyed both of them, even though they had some problems but I think their maybe just teething problems because of going back to a series format on a new network. The first one hardly had any story to it and it just seemed like it wanted to get everything back to the status quo. And the 2nd one well it seemed like they wanted to have a big wank about the fact that they can get away with this stuff on TV now. They both seemed to be quite odd stories which made for quite an odd structure as there would be long scenes in one place for a while. Having seen some of the premises for other upcoming episodes I think they'll get back into their groove more. But these both had some good jokes in it, I'd be happy to keep watching if they stayed around this quality but I think they'll get a bit better.

I know it's not much of a defence for new episodes to say "well they were never that good" But I'd always found with futurama that there would usually be a couple of rubbish jokes in every episode and this didn't feel that different to me from the original run to me.

Just watched the first one and half of the second one (don't have time to watch the rest yet). Not up to quite the old standard, but it does seem to be picking up as it goes along and it is above the feature length episodes already.

Based on what I've seen though there is a good deal of hope for the rest of the season.

First one was wiping the sleep off the eyes, second one was much better.
I'm also one of those that hopes it doesnt get too smutty.
I still think finding ways around rudeness is funnier than outright saying it. Futurama was great at getting away with it

I'm not sure I understand all this 'tone it down' stuff, both episodes seemed decidedly PG-13 to me. There were attempts at sexiness, but they were clumsy and lame and therefore unoffensive. Except maybe in a comedic sense.

Both episodes okay anyway, a huge improvement on the movies, which could not have been worse. All a bit late really, though, it's hard to get excited about Futurama now.

What's the deal with Season 5? I have 1-4 on DVD but didn't keep up after that. Do the movies make up Season 5 or something? I can't seem to make head nor tail of it from the information on Wikipedia.

It's slightly more confusing if you go by the seasons as broadcast, where Season 4 consisted mostly of episodes held over from Season 3, and episodes from Season 3 and 4 were used to make up an extra fifth season.

Episode three's much better than the first two; a little too much reliance on popular culture jokes and tedious gross-out - and the Susan Boyle thing is baffling - but still of a far higher standard.

The boil/boyle thing was awful and there were a few terrible bits in there but on the whole it felt much more like a futurama episode, but just a slightly weak episode of futurama. It sort of leaves me feeling both optimistic and worried for the rest of the new series.

I liked the fact that the episode ended with Mom winning, rather than launching into yet another action plot with Planet Express being the only people on earth to do anything about it.

I agree this one felt the most like a classic era episode, but still something felt a little off somehow. As with all the lewdness last week, the gross out stuff was nothing new to the show - Three Hundred Big Boys involved getting a whale to puke and both episodes involved a character willingly taking a dip in it for the sake of their loved ones -  but the execution here felt kind of base, rather than oddly sweet as it did in the earlier episode.

Still, there were plenty of decent gags in it, and I rewatched the first one of this season the other day and found it much more enjoyable on second viewing, which is encouraging.

I didn't enjoy the latest eyePhone episode one bit. Mostly a string of references tied together with a poorly thought out plot. Why did Mom require a millon twits to launch her worm when she had full control of the devices in the first place? I suppose this isn't really for me anyway, since I haven't seriously enjoyed Futurama since season 2.

I'm a large fan of everything pre-movies, but I couldn't get through even half of that first episode. Is it worth sticking with at all?

The first episode is definitely the worst, but the rest aren't much better. Only the second raised as much as a chuckle out of me.
