Comedy Central is going to release Milder Comedian on October 11th: http://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2010/07/07/11333/comedy_central_launches_dvd_label

Will the released version include the bit of the show where he says there won't be any more stand-up DVDs from him as they're not commercially viable? Heh.

Was he a bit pissed in that preview talking to the camera?

That venue seems a bit big and doesn't see to suit him does it?

Jesus that preview video was bad. I presume that venue's been chosen for the bit where he goes into the crowd?

I like the little corpse he starts to do at the end of the intro on that.

I went to see his Vegetable Stew show the other day and it was at one of the larger rooms of Sheffield City Hall. I thought the same thing about that too.

The Citizens' Theatre isn't actually that big in real life, but the clip makes it look enormous.

I went to see his Vegetable Stew show the other day
has he added any material since the festival when it was basically crisps/charity/Cameron?

edit- sorry, ignore, just noticed the Vegetable Stew thread.

Got the DVD today. I don't think the large stage caused Stew any problems whatsoever, it was absolutely terrific and he's a surprisingly good singer!

I shan't go into it as many of you haven't seen it, but I will say that this years' obligatory underground black and white DVD interview is conducted by Kevin Eldon.

Anyone who wants to borrow it in a few days when I've finished exhausting the disc is welcome to PM me their address.

What's all this talk about otters and pirates? Are they mentioned that much?

As part of his estate agents routine, he came across one house ad that claimed you could see otters in the garden, thus raising the bar for all other house ads. Apparently as the tour has gone on this bit has grown and grown. He mentioned it in his Steve Wright interview on Radio 2 the other day.

No idea about the pirates though.

The pirates bit is his attempt at a "fun bit at the top of the show". He basically complains that pirate themed children's play centers have ball pools and other such unpiratey stuff. It was great. Anyone is welcome to borrow it off me via PM.

Saw this show live nearly a year ago now, was bloody brilliant. I laughed throughout, which is pretty unlike me when it comes to stand-up. Was a great routine.

Just ordered it on DVD. Hurrah!

Anyone ordering Herring's newie, Hitler Moustache? It's out in a couple weeks. Very tempted.

If you order it from gofasterstripe.com rather than amazon, play or elsewhere there's an extra disc of bonus features sent with it.

According to the GFS bloke on Twitter, they've already been sending out the bonus discs to anyone who preordered from them.

Yeah, I got the Herring DVD in the post yesterday from GFS, a 2-disc DVD, plus programme, plus little stick-on Hitler moustache, plus a third disc of bonus stuff, quite an impressive amount of stuff.

Also got the Lee DVD, haven't watched it yet but I really enjoyed the audio bootleg of the show.

Watched Lee's DVD, I was really impressed and grinned all the way through. I've got tickets to see him on the 26th or something, so I'm looking forward to that.

Is it worth me getting Herring's DVD, given that I'm a bit tired of him talking about women and being crude for comic effect?

Herring's show lacked anything great in terms of either jokes or politics/philosophy, despite its pretensions to the latter. He is certainly a milder comedian, ah haha ha.

What sort of thing did it contain? I'd like to know as I've only heard Herring on podcasts recently. The only reasonable content I can imagine is stories about his day to day life like in Warming Up.

Herring is doing a decent job of filling in for Dave Gorman on his radio show whilst he's on honeymoon. In fact, i'd say he's a natural radio presenter, and i'd like to see him get a regular gig after this. You can get the podcasts via Itunes, and they be well worth checking out, if you're a fan. Plus it's quite the blessed relief not to have Collins droning on next to him.

Oh, and was quite surprised to hear him say As It Occurs To Me is ending after the 3 current "specials". Quite glad he's decided to knock that on the head, as the last few have been pretty awful really. The same tired jokes and catchphrases over n over n over. The supporting cast are really getting on my nips, too. I quite liked Emma Kennedy before these.

Has anyone who's watched the DVD so far seen the show live? I thought it didn't quite capture it as well as I'd hoped. Maybe the laughter was mixed too low, but a lot of the pleasure of the pear cider routine is the infectious spread of giggling, which is difficult to capture on DVD. I do also wonder whether it also suffered from being filmed after its peak, when he had done it too many times.

It's interesting to see the development of the show though. The bootleg from Edinburgh last year is great, but a bit raw and some sections not milked to their fullest. By the time I saw it in November it had been honed into possibly the best stand up performance I'd ever seen. But then by the DVD filming I get the sense that there was a bit less conviction in some of the delivery and timing. The newer additions were noticeably delivered with a bit more brio.

It was never going to replicate seeing it live, so I'm possibly being too harsh, particularly when it was such an amazing performance when I saw it. And it's still a superb show. The breakdown section was brilliant.
