US released BBC DVD's
« on: September 06, 2010, 05:43:04 am »
I bought the US release of the Blackadder set yesterday (2nd hand for around a tenner - had to get it). It was the 2001 release, so no commentaries etc that are on the new version. But, it does include the 'dog' cuts from the UK dvd releases, so that's nice. Also the Only Fools & Horses US dvd's are uncut too (and you get the full Royal Flush) and so are much more preferable than the UK versions. Anyone else noticed any differences between US and UK BBC releases?

The US release of Look Around You has an extra set of commentaries which include Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Edgar Wright, Trey Parker, Matt Stone, Michael Cera, Jonah Hill, and Tim and Eric.

Also, Spaced[1] has an extra set of commentaries with Kevin Smith, Diablo Cody, Matt Stone, Patton Oswalt, Quentin Tarantino, and Bill Hader.
 1. It was released in the US by BBC America so it still counts, alright?

I did buy The Young Ones on Region 1 a few years ago, just to get something on there except the shows themselves. Can't recall the edit status of that version, though, but I *think* they beat the UK releases...

Absolutely gorgeous... and absolutely unavailable in the UK.  Buggerbollocks!

It's not a BBC release, but you can only get this vital piece of British comedy history on Region 1:

About six months after its release I got Jonathan Miller to sign my copy of the Beyond the Fringe DVD. Marvellously, it was the first knowledge he had that a full copy had even been recovered let alone released.

Well, it did also get a r4 release: http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/795585 & http://shop.abc.net.au/browse/product.asp?productid=747208

Does seem to be out of print at the moment, but I'm sure there are copies still around.
