Seems more likely that rather than negating Brexit an election would be an excuse to dump all the soft, cuddly stuff from the last Conservative manifesto and proceed with full-on May-style authoritarianism.

MoonDust

Well well well.

As mentioned up thread, could well end up in a Tory/Lib Dem coalition, if a large chunk of Remain voters vote for the Lib Dems to stop Brexit.

Almost makes you wish Labour took the same position as the Lib Dems....

pancreas

This is surely going to result in a second ref. The LibDems will surge on the promise of one and whoever goes into coalition with them will have to give it to them.

I think you are over estimating the LibDems strength.

The end of Corbyn is a disappointment though.

I'd like this to happen but the almost certain outcome will be a massive Tory majority against a split 'remainer' vote.

Suspect this will see the end of Corbyn though.

Rich Uncle Skeleton

haha fuck...a lot of I's and Me's.

Yep. Can't see Labour's polls improving soon.

Back to the centre ground they go...

No it doesn't. They were equivocal. They will have to be equally equivocal in the GE if they want to keep their heartlands. UKIP'll be back in the picture.

This is going to be an excuse for Farage to come back as UKIP leader isn't it?

What a stupid thing to say. Their left-wing policies are popular. Why would they give them up?

Not as much as the end of you was.

MoonDust

She said the commons will vote on it tomorrow. They need a 2/3 majority. Things happening fast.

Because the majority of the PLP don't agree with Corbyn. What I'm saying is that if Labour loses, Corbyn will no doubt resign, and he'll be replaced by another centrist, as Labour will see their downfall as purely the fault of Corbyn and his policies, so they won't let another left-winger on the slate. Yes, his policies are popular, but they're not the policies of the majority of Labour MPs.

Blinder Data

Potential for Tory gains against weakened Labour makes up for likely losses to Lib Dems (which secured them victory in May 2015).

Bet you anything Corbyn tries to front it out for a few months after a catatastrophic election loss!

If they haven't surged in the last year why would they surge in the next few weeks? They'll take votes from Labour, certainly.

MoonDust

Does the fixed term Parliament Act still apply if she wins on 8th June? I.e. since the FTPA states elections are to be held every five years, will she then be PM until 2022, instead of 2020?

Fuck.

Viero_Berlotti

Nobody thought Brexit would happen, it did.

Nobody thought Trump would win, he did.

Put your mortgage on a Corbyn led Labour Government this June.

Spoiler alert
Don't though, they are fucked.

Or...a socialist Britain in two months.

Nah, I think you're probably right.

Cuellar

It is of course never ever going to happen, but I'd do a megalol if she lost.

BBC and Reuters saying a June 8th election.

Will have to delay my move to Canada now! ffs

Quote from: https://twitter.com/JoeTwymanIn 1983 Conservatives won 42% of the vote, Labour won 28%, enough for a 144 seat majority. Current polling: Con 44% / Lab 23%. #GE2017

See also the approval ratings for PM on May/Corbyn, which sunk Ed Miliband.

I reckon Corbyn fans are going to face a pretty brutal collision with the truth on 8 June.

Ever the optimist guy looking at a situation and calling it as he sees it, based on past evidence and WHAT'S RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM.

Johnny Yesno

Are Corbyn's MPs finally going to get behind him or is ideology more important than winning?
