Just 17: The Final Corbyn Thread?

Well someone had to do it.

How about Corbyn goes for a radical makeover to grab some attention, maybe shave of that beard or start wearing leathers? Elements of the press love that sort of shit and he'd be guaranteed coverage. With the election coming up he needs to pull out all the stops.

Seriously though, now that he has a platform he needs to up his game considerably. He needs to rebut the weirdo tag and make sure that people see him as someone trustworthy and competent. It's been said by certain people for a long time that, given the chance to engage, he will. Well now is the time.

Cometh the hour, cometh the Corbyn?

Konki

I'm with Dr Syntax Head but after some of the conversations I've had today it'll be a damn sight harder persuading others unfortunately.

imitationleather

If I don't talk to anyone offline until after the election is over then I don't have to face the reality of what's going on out there.

It's like how the Tories now have Theresa May on lockdown and she's not seeing daylight until 9th June because if she talks to anyone unscripted for a second it's all going to come crashing down for her.

Konki

That'll be the old 'bubble' people keep talking about then.

I believe you're originally from my neck of the woods, imitationleather. Labour were beaten into third by UKIP here last time out. Pretty depressing. Labour should end up second considering the collapse of UKIP though so that's one reason to be cheerful.

I would not be at all surprised if Corbyn tried to hang on until McDonnell's leadership nomination proposals were put up for a vote. Whether they'd pass after a heavy election defeat is another matter.

The entire Corbyn leadership has been about changing the party, not gaining Number 10. The early election has nobbled that, unless he can hang on for a while after the defeat.

Dr Syntax Head

The main argument against Corbyn that I've come across has been that he's not a character. That is fucked. I want my manager to be doing his job not being a character. What is wrong with these people? Fucking selfie generation is ruining us

Konki

Several people today trotted out the "they're all the same" line. It seems that people aren't a bunch of sheep who blindly believe everything the right wing media tell them. Equally it does appear that they're massively ill-informed if they think Labour and the Tories share much common ground.

Of course that opinion could be down to Corbyn whipping his MPs to vote with May on Brexit. Maybe the man on the street only sees politics and politicians in broad brush strokes. Certainly unfair but not necessarily untrue.

Poll taken when most would have assumed the next general election was 2020, as you well know.

TFM how about you respect the membership BEFORE the election, and act positively for a Labour win ?
Though it seems you're already tossing off about you and your ilk getting their hands on the party after,of course crowing "told you so"  for even longer on here  if Labour are defeated.

Can't real Corbyn discussion just happen here now?  http://www.cookdandbombd.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,57709.0.html

At this stage in Labour's life (and Corbyn's leadership) surely it's better that we focus genuine discussion in one place rather than continue to entertain these ironic TFM cesspit threads?

Enough is enough I think.

The troll threads need to be kept for pictures of birds.

Bit desperate, mate :)   Just post in your little thread, no one is stopping you.

It'll be done soon, don't worry.

Quite.  In order to follow the General Election I'd rather not have to come here and witness you in full "Your Mum LOL" mode if Labour's in the process of collapsing.  I already know that you can't wait to see Labour obliterated.  Got it.  Don't need to keep reading it from your shit-smeared lips.

Daily Mail levels of right-wing intellect don't need to be dominating cookdandbombd politics threads at moments like this.  They are everywhere else already.

It's everyone else I'm appealing to here, not you.  I'm hoping other people might appreciate the difference between using you as a punching-bag as a matter of routine, and not wanting to split the discussion as events get more serious.

There'll almost certainly be another Corbyn thread before the election, and probably one after too. It's repeatedly hit 100 pages within a month when fuck all was happening.

Completely dependent on TheFalconMister and new Milverton being around though.

With an entire thread already set up for solely positive contributions!

If Ed Balls is standing, even that is a big push, but could be the sole Labour win if so.  And maybe a focus for a leadership challenge.

My friend from Stafford texted last night asking who to vote for.  I said to have a look at the LD and Labour candidates, but that I'm voting Labour. Stafford is conservative now, remember Kate Godfrey?  She stood for Lab in 2015 and lost, 14k to about 23k.  Just really sad, normal liberal-left people just don't see Labour as a party they can vote for.

Mostly thinking last night about how perverse, irrational and selfish Labour members have been.  They think the conservatives want to privatise the NHS.  The conservatives have a very narrow margin (never mind that - I don't think - Labour have been able to inflict any losses on them).  So they went for an option that was clearly going to lose Labour MPs and hand them a larger majority.  If you think the conservatives have been punitive when they have a small minority, you haven't seen anything yet.  So incredibly reckless, I just cannot understand that way of thinking.  I don't think I'll ever get over the footstamping political illiteracy of these people.

On June 9th, will it have been worth it?

At least that recent poll shows that Labour members do think he should stand down.

Interview with Emily Thornberry on Today. Talking about how Corbyn is take on the "elite" which means people who don't think the "rules" apply to them (could that mean Corbo himself? After all, I keep reading about how he's going to break all the rules), people who avoid tax (like Corbo's backers Unite).

There you are lying again. Why do you feel the need to lie all the time Black_Bart? Is it because people ignore your human rss feed posts?

Because they fucking do and have been doing so.

All this talk of being reckless, you've worked incredibly hard to constantly undermine the leadership, and continue to do so now we have an election. You clearly have no interest in labour being successful.

Mein freund auf Augsburg texted last night asking who to vote for. I said to have a look at the national socialist candidate, a pretty forthright fellow.
