I know there's a quite few guitar nerds on here. Who should I be listening to in the world of Spanish guitar?

On a recent trip to Spain I sat and listened to this old gypsy guy playing flamenco guitar near the beach. Magical stuff, love it.

Paco Peña. Listen to Paco Peña.

Rodrigo y Gabriella are a duo that rock the shite out of flamenco.

This is just mind blowing. It sounds like heavy metal:

Very nice. Pity about the sound quality. Hearing this stuff live is really something else. It's thrilling.

Personally, I prefer his dad's work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1SZXTiEshk

There's not much on Youtube but his scratchy cylindrical offerings are well worth a download if you feel so inclined.

Bit of early Sabicas will see you right, too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2VROY01EAg

The ancient monochrome live vids are infinitely preferable to any studio recordings I've heard (though I'd be delighted to be proven wrong!)

The best one is the one that goes 'jambalayo jambalayo' over and over again in Spanish of whatever language its supposed to be.

Tomatito, man. I love Flamenco. Used to live in Spain and had a flat mate who played. Loved listening to him playing away. "It's just Spanish blues, man," he'd say.
Ye, Tomatito is a ruler of the scene.
