After nicking a few ideas from the best punk thread, I thought we could do this. We need about 20-25 tracks. Everyone who can be arsed posts a song/track/choon/ditty they think will have broad appeal to many CaBbers, though is possibly going to be new to many. And then add a second preference in case someone already hates that song, or has heard it too many times cos they love it and have put it on loads of mix-tapes etc before. And then you actually have to make the playlist or burn the CD or make the tape if you still actually make tapes you hipster twat. I promise I will anyway (burn a CD that is). Add a YouTube link if possible, you can nick the songs from YouTubes if you use suitable 'nick this song from YouTube to mp3' tool/page. You can also find the songs via Soulseek or even buy them). All musical styles welcome! Diversity good! Then we can spend 30 pages arguing over the name of the compilation.  Clear? No? Good! I'll start!

First choice= When You're Dead - The Ghost

alternative = Laisse tomber les filles - France Gall

Two crackers I'm sure you'll agree ladies and gentlemen... now over to the next poster.

A lovely song about growing old/starvation/dying:
Slapp Happy/Henry Cow - Riding Tigers

Alternatively:
The Sea Nymphs - Lucky Lucy

People are really digging this compilation it seems.

Dr Rock

Yeah it's going really well.

I chose your Sea Nymphs track btw.

I can't think my contribution will save this, but have it anyhow.

First choice: Basil Kirchin - Silicon Chip

Spare: R Stevie Moore - Play Myself Some Music

First choice: The Tea Set - Parry Thomas
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWyw0pcoGrY
An ode to J. G. Parry-Thomas's tragic 1927 land speed record attempt at Pendine Sands
Backup: The Electric Banana - Alexander
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGSdDTxlWco
The Pretty Things moonlighting for the De Wolfe music library - this track was used in the oddball 1969 Norman Wisdom vehicle What's Good For The Goose, with the band also appearing onscreen playing in a hippy club.

*bump* cheers for pointing me at that Electric Banana track, I've seen the daft movie it's from (straight Norman Wisdom flirts with becoming a hippy, after falling for a hot hippy chick, hangs out with a load of hippies but in the end decides he doesn't want to be a hippy). Well worth a look (if that sounds appealing to you), and I've now acquired the Electric Banana album, and popped that Alexander track on a CD comp seeing as it's doubtful this compilation idea is ever going to reach completion...

Glad to be of service. I was introduced to it from one of Soundhog's Mix90 mixes well before I'd seen the film (Soundhog made a fantastic subtle extended edit of it which unfortunately seems to have dropped off the internet). The film was made in the historic Birkdale Palace Hotel (which was at one time grand enough to have it's own railway station) in the dunes south of Southport. it had been bought by Tigon Films to use as a studio, but was demolished shortly after filming

If you liked that Electric Banana track, you might like this too - Soundhog's edit of The Spider And The Fly by The Dakotas:
