Here Comes Mongo

By which I mean songs you like which are manifestly uncool but which you're prepared to admit to liking. I'll go first; I quite like Rebecca Black's latest release https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9ivdRyuKVI

What are your favourite uncool songs? This is a judgement free thread by the way, so don't be inhibited!

Mr Brightside

Fuckin ell. Great thread. Where do I start?

Man! I Feel Like A Woman - Shania Twain
What's Up? - 4 Non Blondes
We Built This City - Starship
If You Leave Me Now - Chicago
Barbie Girl - Aqua
Mandy - Barry Manilow/Westlife
YMCA - Village People
Mambo No. 5 - Lou Bega
I Touch Myself - Divinyls
My Love - Westlife
Blue - Eiffel 65
The Bad Touch - Bloodhound Gang
Seasons in the Sun - Terry Jacks
Breakfast at Tiffany's - Deep Blue Something
Escape - Rupert Holmes
Two Princes - Spin Doctors

Here Comes Mongo

Some classics there, and thanks for kicking things off Mr Brightside! Anyone else feel like 'coming out' as far as schlocky music goes?

Here's another: I quite like 'Baby boy' by Me and My: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uTW4EKz7tw

Lemming

Mentioned it in previous threads, but the ultimate example for me is One Week by Barenaked Ladies, which is genuinely fucking wicked to the point where I absolutely cannot understand the hate

Some more:
Closing Time - Semisonic
All The Things She Said - t.A.T.u
Fatlip - Sum-41
Kitty - Presidents of the United States of America (getting mixed signals on whether or not this is actually a "guilty pleasure" band, but Lump and Peaches are great songs too)
Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve
Island in the Sun - Weezer
Butterfly - Smile.DK
Come Sail Away - Styx
Walking on Sunshine - Katrina and the Waves
A few Status Quo songs
Fireflies - Owl City

Little Mix -Love Me Like You

I still maintain that it's the best pop song of the last 20+ years. Whoever wrote it, probably a Google supercomputer somewhere.

Twed

May as well post my entire Spotify 'starred tracks' playlist.

Rich Uncle Skeleton

Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds. Oh god, Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds!

zomgmouse

I recently discovered myself enjoying several hits by Dead or Alive which seems totally unlike me:
"Something in My House"
"My Heart Goes Bang Bang Bang Bang"
and of course the most famous one, "You Make Me Go in Circular Directions Like What an LP Does"

Dr Syntax Head

Rick Astley. The she wants to dance with me song. Maybe that's because of Bob Mortimer though.

People think U2 are uncool so all U2 albums up to Pop.

Repeater

One of my favorite songs, particularly for getting me into the mood when doing BJJ competitions is, Basement Jaxx - Rendez-vu.

Kane Jones

Hair metal/80s rock. Pretty much all of it.

Norton Canes

Yeeeah! Straight from the top of my dome
As a rock da rock da rock da rock da rock da microphone

FREESTYLER

Jockice

I don't really believe in the whole guilty pleasures concept, but uncool songs I really like include Lindisfarne's Run For Home, Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes' Up Where We Belong, Meat Loaf's Deadringer For Love, TWO by Will Young (Evergreen and Leave Right Now), and Atomic Kitten's Whole Again. Oh yes, and What's Up? by Four Non Blondes. Come on, admit it, it's great.

Bold = choons!
Especially that Spin Doctors song. I watch the video to that quite often, love it.
THE 90S WERE NICE WEREN'T THEY?

Artie Fufkin

The first one that popped in my head was Run To Me by The Bee Gees. Gorgeous. Harmony-tastic !

Heard Holding Back The Years in Morrisons this morning.  Yeah it's Hucknall and it's blue-eyed soul mush, but it's a pretty magnificent song of its type.  They played Brass In Pocket afterwards and it came off second in its wake, which you wouldn't have called, given how excellent Brass In Pocket is.

All The Things She Said - t.A.T.u

That's a great example of guilt-inducement because of the dodgy and tacky way they were promoted, but it's a really great pop song. I didn't dare buy it though.

Dr Syntax Head

Road to hell, Auberge, Workin' on it. Chris Rea.
If you love somebody set them free. Sting.
A couple of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch songs (nostalgia)
Monkey-George Michael.
Heat is on Glen Frey.
Hip to be square-Huey Lewis (an all time favourite)

I've had a little think about it see.

DrGreggles

Actually there's nothing to feel guilty about there.
One of the best pop songs of the 90s.

ASFTSN

Don't believe in the concept.

BUT in keeping with this thread, I like the Eurythmics 1984 "soundtrack".

I love her cover of Buffalo Springfield's For What It's Worth, I think that's more down to The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section though.

It is the motherlode of all music chatroom threads.

Custard

Whigfield - Think Of You

Roughly 4 million times better a pop song than Saturday Night

Mr Brightside

This Love - Maroon 5
I Kissed a Girl - Katy Perry
Fancy - Iggy Azalea
All About That Bass - Meghan Trainor
She Bangs - Ricky Martin
Hey, Soul Sister - Train
Thrift Shop - Macklemore
Cooler Than Me - Mike Posner

Also heard this last week and like this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qN4ooNx77u0

I agree with this. It reminds me of college discos. Good melodies/memories.
