Yay, our local Odeon's now showing it from this Friday onwards for at least a week, so I'll almost certainly be seeing it again.

Their info for it says "Contains strong language and sex references" though -- I must have missed the latter, unless it refers to the comedy swearing...

dfurnell

Not that I'm in Cockney London but some of you may well be. Just spotted this:

The Lexi Cinema: Rubber Dinghy Rapids! Sam Bain and Nigel Lindsay at The Lexi this Friday for Q&A after our 7pm show of Four Lions. Carin in the chair, other guests unconfirmed.

Location:
194b Chamberlayne Road, Kensal Rise
London, United Kingdom, NW10 3JU
Phone:
020 8955 1521

Be interesting to see Nigel Lindsay being questioned; he's the less-interviewed Lion it seems but really an amazing portrayal in the film.

Rowlands

Would appear that it is indeed being screened at Cineworld in Llandudno Junction all week. Just trying to find someone to go with me, so should be today or tomorrow that I make it.

QuoteFOUR LIONS followed by a satellite Q&A with director Chris Morris and cast members

Saturday 22 May, 6.10 doors 6.30 prompt start

Written by Peep Show pen team Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong and directed by cult satirist Chris Morris (Brass Eye, Nathan Barley), FOUR LIONS is the latest British political comedy that is as tasteless as it is timely.

Following four Islamic terrorists from the north of England, Morris's film depicts the transition of a group of young Muslim men from boisterous radicals to would-be suicide bombers.

This being Chris Morris, the jokes are razor-sharp and wryly tongue-in-cheek, as two of the men embark on an ultimately calamitous covert mission to Pakistan to train as bombers, while the other two recruit a fifth member and go about plotting their own martyrdom.

I think that's happening nationwide in all Picturehouse Cinemas.  Just booked myself in for the Edinburgh showing.

Neil

Looks like you're right!

Seems to be a mainland only deal.  Shite.

Via @charlesgant on twitter, I see that Four Lions has taken £1.44m in its first 10 days.

Yeah. Just booked a few for Aberdeen, quite the pleasant surprise. How do these satellite Q+As work usually?

Jemble Fred

I've only been to a satellite broadcast from the National Theatre. I'll have to check and see whether there are any tickets left at the Little Theatre Picturehouse up the road.

Don't know if this is of interest but the film has officially done "excellent business". Total for the week was £974,000 and we (Cineworld) took a healthy share of that. As a result it has been moved from 12s/Specialised (basically the largest multiplexes and arty nonsense friendly middle class areas) to a full release across every site. Interestingly it was a very unexpected success as we were told as late as Monday of last week that no more prints were on order and it would remain on its two band release schedule only. By Tuesday we had been told that new prints were being sourced and the film was being moved onto the Exansion schedule.

We were also told to push the film locally for walk up business. J-Lo's The Back-Up Plan has bombed heroically so Four Lions has been elevated as a result.

On our first weekend of business we're showing it locally as being about level on on admits with Streetdance 3D previews (although weekday showings will push it above that) behind Robin Hood and Iron Man 2. Should keep an engagement for at least another week, although Sex and the City 2 will probably purge it in a fortnight.

And the budget for the film was 2.5 million, now as I understand things, a film is supposed to make triple it's budget to be considerd profitable. Maybe someone can confirm this?

That includes dvd sales, syndication, etc I believe. Also depends on whether the stated budget includes marketing or not(ie. something like 50% of There Will Be Blood's budget was marketing)

Famously in the UK for the DVD release, despite the fact it would have sold, and did sell exceptionally well, so much money was spent on marketing it made a loss.

Hollywood there.

I thought you were talking about Let The Blood Run Free and that you were insane!

Well, what I did miss out in that post was the vital part of it, which was I was talking about Shrek 2.

That's very interesting, thanks for that.  I did find it somewhat frustrating that I couldn't go and see the film again in Cineworld Solihull when it was released, only to be pleasantly surprised to see it make it to the schedules for this week.  For historical context, it wasn't showing at Cineworld Solihull during the opening week of 7-13 May 2010, but was promoted to the schedules for at least the week 14-20 May 2010.

Just got back from Llandudno Junction showing. Loved it, will be on the radio from about half ten to talk a bit about it.

Yeah, much to our annoyance whenever a customer asks what will be out next week we don't actually know until at least Monday or Tuesday, 3-4 days before the programme starts. Pain in the arse that leads to film times usually being fucked up in the press because we literally have hours from being told the films to leaflets and press adverts going out.

Neil

Thanks for that.  As mentioned on twitter by Squidy and Sam Bain, the Curzon Soho has a Q&A with Bain, CM and cast tomorrow at 6:30pm. http://www.curzoncinemas.com - Sold Out.

Also, Squidy said that Bain and Armstrong contributed to a Four Lions commentary track, which was recorded for the DVD yesterday.

EDIT: Turns out that Brooker is actually hosting the satellite Q&A thing.

Duckula

So is it just an interview being broadcast or can audience members ask questions?

Fuck knows...it's across 15 cinemas, but I'm sure there will be some way of asking questions to him.  I finally got some PR info about this, although not directly from thinkjam of course, because that would be crazy.  Thank you to the gentleman who keeps forwarding on the stuff that they simply can't be bothered to send me:

I've been to one of those Picturehouse sattelite Q&As before and unfortunately, then at least, there's no way to ask questions from the other cinemas.

Looks like there won't be Q's in the Q & A from that. If it were interactive you'd have thought they'd be pushing that angle.

ThickAndCreamy

I would put this in the review thread but there are no spoilers.

I saw it today. I really, really wanted to love it... and I did, it was utterly fantastic. I had a smile on my face nearly the whole way through and haven't laughed so much in a cinema in a long, long time.

Re: the Edinburgh showing, seems like there're still a whole load of seats left.

If any Athens of the North-based whores are going and fancy a pre/post-match pint, drop me a PM.  Going on my own now and it looks like I'll be rattling around in the place.

So will CM and the others be in one of the cinemas live, re-broadcast to the others, or will they just be in some generic TV studio somewhere? It's good to see that these Q&As are happening, but won't be as good as one where you can actually touch the people involved. Not inappropriate touching of course, although I suspect Brooker will get a couple of wanking jokes in somehow. Given his involvement though it will probably be a good session, be really good to get a copy of the video. Anyone good at picking up raw feeds with a steerable dish?
