Play.com are advertising box sets of futurama, simpsons and family guy at a very good £15.99. However these boxsets are called "promotional versions." What does that mean?

"What it says" really, versions produced with the aim of promoting the series.

You don't know what it means at all, do you?

gazzyk1ns

I assume it's the same as a music promo?

Like a special edition box set type thing? You know, in a cardboard cover with a gushing booklet and a poster, maybe.

Rats

Maybe it means they're just cheap. Like a promotional offer, you get them at a tenner for a month or something. Anyone else fancy a guess?

Frinky

Nah, whatsisk1ns is more or less right, they should be identical with "not for resale" on them, maybe with notes on how to display/contact numbers for promotional stuff, I've had a few of them in the places I've worked. You won't be losing out any if you get them. Why/how Play is selling, them, however...?

Or like a promotional book, like a publisher's proof sent out to dsitributers and big shops - I got hold of one once; William Gibson's Idoru, it was A5 abd had basic maroon cardboard cover like an exercise book. If thats anything to go on you'll get a Maxell DVD-RW with the title scrawled on in marker, in a  cellophane sleeve. Happy shopping.

Rats

Maybe nobody wanted to review it.

terminallyrelaxed

Dunno what you're worried about anyway, its even got a fecking picture of the items concerned.

Well I've just ordered Series 2 & 3 of Family Guy.  They seem to be the same as those on Amazon.co.uk, and I don't care if there's some small differences on the packaging.

Anyway, I'll scream about it on here, if I've been done.

@ssmaster

I apologise for this as it isn't related but play.com are selling Donnie Darko on DVD for £4.99 delivered. Right where is my credit card

I think that is the most accurate definition of "a bargain" I have ever heard of.

Frinky

I've got it, it's the budget one in not very appealing packaging, and no extras.

However, at a fiver...

r smelly

it's just gonna mean they're cheap

A friend was quizzical about this to, and e-mailed them (PLay.com).
Basically they replied saying they're the same as the full price versions, only cheap.
Looks like they're using promotion as a bamboozling way of saying sale?
It's probably because they're pre-orders and the sale doesn't start for a couple of weeks, maybe it's a legal issue?
