www.myspace.com/captainwilberforce

www.myspace.com/chrispistols

Or Danny Pig. Great voice.

I'll add more larer, if you wish.

Toad in the Hole

This is a biggie... Gideon Conn is fantastic.  A strange mix of folk, rap, scat and all sorts, but compelling.  A great performer as well.

Go With The Flow

Enter Shikari.
Rock music, with occasional snippets of trance music thrown in for good measure.
No, they actually are very good.

Their music video is doing the rounds on MTV2/Scuzz, which is nice.

www.myspace.com/mysen

My band's drummer is the bassist, this is his more pop/rock outlet. May not be to tastes on here but Holding On in particular is something of a classic, in my opinion. Saw them live last night, were good as ever.

www.myspace.com/farfromthedance

These guys played afterwards and hadn't brought as many friends as Mysen so had a very cold reception, but were a hugely competent band, clearly well rehearsed (probably better than Mysen, in honesty) - they want to be Radiohead/Thom Yorke a bit much, but they're good at it.

And this is mine again, on the offchance anyone new gets to hear it. The way I see it, as long as I'm adding new bands in the same post I can repost mine and it's not spam. That's my justification anyway.

www.myspace.com/officialnewtonfaulkner

Oh yes, and a guy I used to go to college with who's playing The Union Chapel soon, alongside Lily Allen and other hip acts.

I saw him recently, no-one could quite make their minds up about him. The crowds started drifting off a fair bit, but the people I spoke to afterwards varied from thinking he was great to thinking he was so-shit-he's-great to thinking he was the shittest thing in the world. I think the nature of his genre-cramming inevitably led to a bit of patchiness and there was sometimes a bit of 'Is he being serious or not?'...he kind of walks a fine line teetering on the brink of annoying novelty. I will say though that having sat through a whole lot of fucking tedious unsigned support acts in Manchester, being a bit baffled by someone made for a pleasant change.

Toad in the Hole

I was pretty unsure the first time I saw him as well.  LIstening to his stuff a bit more has convinced me though.  Run of the mill indie it certainly isn't, which is perhaps why people are baffled... and he doesn't exactly look like the stereotypical Manchester student musician!

chand

Heh, I'm watching him on Channel M right now, the snowy Manchester TV channel. It was weird cos I just turned it on and saw this girl I used to go to school with singing: http://www.myspace.com/rkichenside

But yeah, I can't say I dislike Gideon Conn...there's an element of wondering how much he's taking the piss. Sometimes I'm not sure whether that should even matter. But I'm glad people are around that are being off-the-wall anyway.

I can't remember if I've pointed out untitled music project yet .

but they play a 3 song session on BBC 6 Music (Marc Riley at 7pm) Thursday the 14th of December.

What a great song they have on there, I mean honestly you could just lose yourself in that forever.

23 Daves

I don't think I've mentioned them before on this thread, so now might be a good time...

The Henry Road are a top little band, specialising in wigged out psychedelia which periodically goes a wee bit too "Ogden's Nut Gone Flake" but often brings an interesting new spin to things.

And I feel I should point out that "Jeff Lynne Is Five" was one of the best unofficial Myspace-only singles I heard  last year.  Go to that track first whatever you do, there's some marvellous cod-ELO moments going on there:

I had a listen to three tracks and I really like that, the kind of quirkyness (horrible word, but still) that's right up my street thesedays. Thanks Daves.

bloodycheekymonkey

All of these are great in my opinion, and all likely to be signed soon...including my band, the last one, we're like all about music for pirates, ambient pirates mainly...but we're working on some glam/pirate rave combo stuff at the mo.

Doofer  make great bluesy acoustic pop songs, and are hardly known outside of South Wales unfortunately, felly grandewch nawr!

Tom Allalone

I've seen this guy a few times - it's different every time, but always cool.

Pencil

Original Australian punk - formed in 81, still playing around the traps. Cool stuff.

My personal myspace page lists a load of unsigned bands I like.
Hopefully you will too...

Nice to see some artists I know of (and have played with) getting a mention.

A new thing with Alex Paterson and Nina Walsh. Some pretty tasty beats.

I don't know these people at all, but I sure do like their songs. Kind of experimental folk.

They're a couple of people from Durham Uni, Maja Raskovic and Alex Ewart. Weird I saw this today, because I'm attending the launch party for their EP "Songs for John Street" on "Things to Make and Do Records" tonight. I've seen them live quite a few times, being Durham Alum and they're rather excellent. And lovely people too, I'm assured by our mutual friends.

Earth Sized Diamonds asked to be added to my friends and I like his music. I think he was little confused between my tastes and the people who want to be added to my friends generally. But he's defo unsigned AFAIK.
http://www.myspace.com/earthsizediamonds
I like his top eight friends particularly. Edit: he had eight different friends all called Satan

I was reminded of this thread and Earth Sized Diamonds this week, when his new band, Calle Debauche requested to be added. I'm enjoying their tracks on MySpace a whole lot - Canterbury-tinged (albeit from Arizona) proggy jazzy post-rock - really good stuff, whatever.

Hobes

A bit of a cheat as they're no longer unsigned:Rotary Ten

(And the bassist has just started work in my office).

SoCow

right, this is my one-man operation called So Cow.
http://www.myspace.com/socow

i'm at http://www.iamsocow.com as well.

indie pop, i guess!
