BBC3 gets something right shocker or manipulative 'trendy vicar' hokum?

Personally I thought it was patchy but the parts that worked were superb.  'Love will Tear us Apart'  and 'Blue Monday' stood out as particularly affecting/effective.  Speaking as a Mancunian atheist I had reasons to love it and hate it other than pure merit, but overall I thought it was carried off pretty well.  Was my home-town pride swaying me unduly?
