AH! One of my favourites of the 80's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vPPDFUlJ70&;

And a late 80's/early 90's band that only one other person in the UK has heard of in my experience. (Hope to be proved wrong here.) Which is fucking criminal. (And they didn't have the video for the one I wanted to post, and while I love this song, this was more commercial than a lot of their stuff.)

One day, I hope to find the Richard Herring-eulogised performance "on TV's Summertime Special with some balloons falling on him".

HAHA! If you check YouTube, there appears to be CURRENT performances of the song! (Not revealing what it is for those who haven't clicked. Mystery is good.) Scary!

A slightly grim video from Ultravox here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqQB19yx_i4&search=Ultravox

Midge Ure reveals himself to be a highly irresponsible man in this one.  Instead of slashing his child's throat and then going off to sleep with his wife, he just jumps straight into bed for one final shag with her whilst his offspring is agonisingly charred alive by a nuclear explosion in the next room.  You'd expect a fellow organiser of Band Aid to have thought things through a bit more.

And here's Malcolm McLaren:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWk267xIIzc&search=Malcolm%20McLaren

Few people remember as it's a fairly minor contribution to the world, but besides inventing punk, paedophilia, John Lydon, rap, opera and gayness, Malcolm McLaren also invented skipping.  Before he came along, children were forever dying in bizarre Michael Hutchence styled "incidents" in their desperate attempts to work out what to do with the objects in PE storage cupboards we now call "skipping ropes".

Sorry, I'm a bit bored today.

Warning: this may lead to a "spraying your tea all over the monitor and keyboard" incident.

Matthew Wilder "Break My Stride"

Dig that spoken word breakdown!

I'll prove you wrong!  There are a couple of other fans hereabouts as well.  One day I'll find that 'impossible to get' video with all their promos on.  There's no way on Earth it's ever getting a DVD reissue.

I've gone to town, as you can see. This is what the internet was invented for - tracking down things you couldn't find otherwise.

Freur "Doot Doot" Underworld looking silly, but it's a great single. Look at Karl Hyde's crimped hair!

Young Marble Giants "N.I.T.A." The sound is very quiet, but it's YMG on Something Else.

Visgae "Mind Of A Toy" Follow-up to "Fade To Grey", very early 80s video aesthetic here.

Prefab Sprout "Cars and Girls" Ver 'Sprout at their poppiest, sproutiest best.

Altered Images live on Whistle Test Amazing the amount of Altered Images stuff on there, this is the pick for me.

Siouxsie and the Banshees "Love In A Void" If you search for OGWT, you'll also get one of their early TV performances. Brilliant, goth-punk this.

Strawberry Switchblade "Since Yesterday" Polka dots and ribbons! Hurrah!

Can "I Want More" Lots of freaky dancin' in the audience for this one.

It's Immaterial "Jim's Tune (Driving Away From Home)" I don't think I'd ever seen this video before now. Amazing to think it's 20 years old.

Okay, 90s, but so what? Geeks who sound like the Ramones and Happy Days footage. Dude.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SIB5DJOTSU

This, however, is 80s (very late) (I think), and again rocks. Dig the two Jons' Vic & Bob-style dancing!

The video to Fire by the Prodigy, a video which to this day the band have disowned due to the obscenely shit computer graphics (yes, even for 1992).

Edit: ah, I didn't see the 80s theming. Oh well.

Fuck me! I've met ONE PERSON who has actually heard of them up until now. Even over here in Canada it's largely "Who?" For the longest time I could find no info on them online even. Near as I can remember from what I did find, after their third album, Dan Reed went off touring on his own, doing all the bands songs. Band got miffed. Goodbye DRN.

Video I was looking for was "Mix It Up". It was seeing that video on "The Chart Show" that led to me buying the 12" picture disk (with whirly-hypno-spirals, and ultimately buying all 3 albums the band did.

23 Daves: Christ that Ultravox video is depressing! Never occured to me the song was cold war styled nonsense.

Muteki: It says MAINLY 80's vintage. I think stuff up to about the mid 90's is cool, at least with me anyway.

I've actually got "Love Missile F1-11" on my mp3 player right now!

Catalogue Trousers

Surprisingly fun little tune, isn't it? Stripped of all the hype and media/Ben Elton sneering of the time...

TOCMFIC

If you get the original version, yes, it's great! However, I don't know it's origin, but just like Marrs "Pump Up The Volume", there is a version out there with ALL the copyrighted samples removed and replaced with poor imitations.  Absolutely horrible.

But the original unmolested version is great. It's psychosis, pressed into a 7" vinyl circle. I was in my last year of school when F1-11 came out. Everyone took the piss out of me because I bought the single. Another mate bought it as well, but said his mum wouldn't let him play it because it gave her a headache:)

I noticed in the credits at the end of the video, Magenta De Vine was listed. Had forgotten that she was involved in that.

Warning:  A Dan Reed tangent.

TOCMFIC:  Somewhere on the net are the complete demos for the unfinished forth DRN album.  If you don't have them, I'll point you in the right direction when I find the URL.  All the non-album b-sides (of which there are many) are available there too.

(I've made this a general post and not a PM, as there might be a couple of other people interested.  That's all.  Get on with your meals!)

Well, there was a lot of it about.

More examples - Tears For Fears "Mothers Talk":

Wrathchild have a rather more light-hearted attitude to the problems, though, in "Na Na Na Na Nuclear Rocket":

And I don't know if XTC's "This World Over" ever had a video, but I can't find one online.

I've spent an entire evening watching pretty much everything on this thread and it's been a flippin' joy. I haven't heard 'Double Dutch' by Malcolm McLaren since my folks played it on their 'party mix tapes' in the 80s. I think they thought it was some kind of limbo themed record (the dance, not the alternative term for purgatory)

Anyway, giving some love back, here's Slick Rick and Doug E Fresh performing 'The Show' on Soul Train in 1985

Damn you, Lalla! I was riding the bus home from the doctors and was reminded of Nineteen. I was actually listening to his follow up song, "Just For Money" at the time and thought "Nobody has done that yet!" And I see you have.

Well played:)

Here's another for you lovely people.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwHMVhPiSUk&;

For the longest time when I was a teen, I had a crush on Madonna. Ironically, nowadays, I wouldn't touch her with a ten foot cattle prod, but I'd still touch those two! (I mean the girls obviously:)) Particularly having seen recent pics of both!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CApnpkWQGHw&;

Still saddens me to know he's dead:(

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ORuCjAMqg8&;

Whatever happened to that guy?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3pauzOea-E&;

That'll do you all for now, unless I can find one particular video...

TOCMFIC

And they fucking did! WOW! And from MTV Japan no less, if I heard the intro correctly.

Always loved this. (I do like removing the search term so you have no idea what you're gonna click:)) If you've never seen this video, stick with it, it's good:) I've been trying to track down an AVI/MPG of a tape I have back in England of their videos, but have never been able to find it:(
