"I don't care if you're famous, I'm going to punch you"

Deadman97

The 2008 Halliwell's describes "Biodome" (starring Pauly Shore) as "nothing less than the pinnacle of film-making".

Here's Pauly Shore getting dropped.

There's a clip I'd love to see again that I half-remember, a sportscaster interviewing some kind of Baseballist, taunting him about some nickname- the baseball/footballist specifically says he'll punch the interviewer if he says it again, he does, they go off-air as the man-mountain lunges at him over a table.

In life, in live television, on the street or on Youtube, people get punched. It's obviously a fucking horrible act. Obviously. But sometimes... can someone deserve a punch in the face? This guy didn't. Did you, once? Ever given or recieved a fucking rattler to the mouth?

Brutus Beefcake

Most people deserve a punch for something, I'm amazed how few I've recieved.

Fucking hell that's awful.  It must take a hell of a lot of bravery to punch a lone person when you have a load of backup like that.

I got smacked in the mouth once, July in fact. Still missing a couple of front teeth (front right and the one to the right of that). Planning on getting some fixed in in the new year when I can get the time off work.

It's quite a suprise when it happens! Your mouth bleeds a lot, more than you'd think!

I did pick up my teeth (and run!), but because they were snapped off you can't do owt with them (all that glass of milk stuff only works if they come off with the root intact).

I've still got the teeth, in a little tiny jar thing. I never cleaned them (since they came out!) so they're covered in dry blood, dirt and spit, and though I've not done it in months, if I take the lid off the jar, the teeth smell disgusting.

Like I said on here nearer the time, I didn't do anything to deserve it at the time, I was just walking down the street (a main road) at 4am, and happened to walk past the wrong pair of drunk manc bovver boys who wanted a bit of sport.

I don't think they wanted to mug me, because surely the threat of violence is the point if you do that? Getting a bloody fist and no cash is a pretty poor haul?

You sometimes think "that's unfair!" but then you read about people like that poor Scouse chap who got smacked in the face for no reason outside the Temple a few years back, fell and cracked his head and died, or realise a few centimetres higher and it may've broken my jaw which would be even more painful, upsetting and expensive (fuck me, teeth cost a lot!).

Just to say, it appears almost certainly that Pauly Shore incident was a set-up.

Still though, it's a valid thread.  I got punched in the face once.  It was awful, particularly as only seconds before I remarked to myself what a nice day it was.

I got beaten up by a taxi driver once for  getting mud on his seat. Luckily I was very drunk (which is why I got the cab in the first place) so I didn't feel a thing, but it still pissed me off something rotten.

How much did you tip him?

Egyptian Feast

I got my head kicked in last St. Patrick's Day for saying "That's enough, mate" to a guy who was beating the shit out of his lady friend at the bus stop. If I was sober, I probably would've looked away (like the other dozen or so people waiting around at the same time), but I'd had quite a skinful, so I foolishly decided to intervene, however meekly (I'm still ashamed I called the vicious cunt 'mate').

I may have looked like one of the vampires from Buffy for a month afterwards, but I could console myself with the knowledge that I'd inadvertently patched things up between the lovely couple. As soon as I hit the ground, she was encouraging her man to "kick his fucking head in!". He was having quite a go at it too, and may have succeeded in actually kicking my head in, if an Italian gentleman didn't hop off a passing bus and drag him off me. Never got to thank him for that - I get the feeling he hadn't been in the country long, otherwise he'd probably would've stood by just like everyone else at the stop.

I was pretty fucked up for a while, and I've noticed I've been socialising a lot less since it happened, but I could've been much worse off. One thing is for sure, I will never intervene in such a situation again, unless I have proper back-up (I'm completely useless with fisticuffs). I was in Dublin a couple of months later, walking through Ranelagh late at night, when I spotted up ahead another vicious twat smacking his girlfriend's face in. I did the only thing I could - I walked to the other side of the road and didn't even glance back at them.

I got beaten up by skinheads for, at the time, sporting a skinhead.

I'm still having trouble working that one out.

Deadman97

Thanks for the stories so far, folks- of course there's nothing amusing at all about getting a pummelling, I'm surprised those that have shared have been so good-natured about it.

Regarding Pauly Shore, I too read that the incident was staged, but I'm damned if I can see the point- why stage a skit which makes you look like a moron and ends with you storming off stage insulting your audience?

Felatio Imperative

Can you punch yourself full force in the face? I've never tried, but I've heard it is actually impossible to do. If so, I bet Fight Club feels small.

Claude the Racecar Driving Rockstar Super Sleuth

Even if you can't, it's nothing to beat yourself up about.

Marvin

Well obviously you can't punch that hard backwards can you? A proper punch uses your whole upper body wheras punching yourself you'd only have the strength of your wrist. You could probably still do a bit of damage though.

What an odd question though.

Tits McGee

When I was 11 I took a day trip to Southend (or Sarfend as some people, usually Harry Monk's, refer to it) and while my parents sat on the beach and read The News of the World I walked along to the crazy golf course. there was a lad there, about 14, and he was cheating. I to,d him this and he first held the putter thing near my head with shaking hands.

Being only 11, I thought I was Superman (don't we all at that age) and raised my fists. He hit me twice on the head with the putter, drawing blood, and then ran for it while I lay dazed. After a short time I got up and told my parents. I never say the lad again. Probably famous now...

Been in a couple of fights in my street, local youths kicking over bins and shouting racial abuse. I mean what else can you do? Some kids need a lesson.

Generally I try to stay out of trouble.

Smackhead Kangaroo

Yes I too like to only pick on Little pikey runts and opponents who are weaker and smaller than I am.

Well no, what I think felatio meant, was that you can't make yourself do it really hard, because you know it will hurt and so your wiser instincts are stopping you from doing it.

Precisely. Unless you're drunk, I don't think it can be done. Of course, anyone's welcome to try and prove me wrong. I'd want footage though.

It's awful to get beaten up for intervening when something bad's happening like somebody else getting beaten up. I'd imagine the experience is actually really quite traumatic. An old friend of mind got beaten up because she tried to stop a bloke beating up his girlfriend. It was the girlfriend who attacked her for intervening. How fucked up is that. My friend became quite introverted for several months after that.

I'd like to think if I saw something like that I wouldn't just turn a blind eye. The fear of becoming involved in such a dillema and the knowledge that there are so many situations like that to potentially witness on a weekend in a city centre stops me going, out on the weekends, at least.

I think it's pretty clear that Felatio Imperative is just trying to get us all to sit around punching ourselves in the face trying to test his theory.

I've been punched in the face a couple of times in my adult life-  both times (in my opinion) undeserved.  And on the occasions when I have been drunk or obnoxious in the wrong places at the wrong times, everyone seems to have been too surprised to give me what should rightfully be coming.

I've had the usual happen- been walking home at night minding my own business when I've been pounced on by seven drunk, shaven headed lads. Then I've been hit by a friend-of-a-friend who lost his temper after getting involved in a petty argument that was absolutely none of his business.  Then again, I didn't know the man at all well and it may just have been his way of settling disputes of that nature.  He was one of those types who have a permanently red, angry face, like a terminally miffed baby.  He could have got a part on Eastenders as a dodgy type.

I've known a lot of people who that has happened to. It's hard because anyone is going to want to help a woman being beaten up by some guy, but often it's best not to get involved it would seem.

There was a show on here where they got a couple of actors to pose as a guy harassing his girlfriend in a park, and they secretly filmed what happened. Most people seemed hesitant to get involved or went about helping the wrong way, but one guy (a karate teacher) basically squared up to the guy and very calmly told him to stop, keeping eye contact and not getting overly aggressive or acting too timid, which the "panel" said was the best approach to take. Of course the guy was in actor so in real life things would probably have been different.
