I'm DJing at a Christmas thing 23rd. It's pretty cool during the year - you can get away with playing just about anything, but for the festive version I'd like to play some seasonal numbers.

Any recommendations other than the completely obvious?

If they could be accompanied with some kind of link to, say, sendspace just so I could hear them (ahem) that would be, as the thread title suggests, a wonderful, lovely gift that I'd be only too happy to accept.

The Observer did a bit about it in the latest music monthly and the nominations were so crushingly obvious it mmmade mmmmme mmmmmmmad.

Is this obvious or not?  I dunno...

Santa Claus Go Straight To The Ghetto by James Brown:

Good idea for a thread.  Let's hear a few other alternative yuletide tunes..

Christmas with the devil.

or Heart on Snow by Marc Almond.

Gettin' Down for Xmas.  Forget who it's by, but from an old DJ Shadow funk comp.  Sleighbell-tastic...

Whirlybird

First one that springs to mind is the wonderful "Alan Parsons In A Winter Wonderland" by Grandaddy.  I've got the Herb Alpert version of Winter Wonderland knocking about at the mo:

Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass - Winter Wonderland

Expect I'll be back with more when I'm not drunk and wanting to play Splinter Cell.

Not a Christmas song as such, but appropriately wintry:

France Gall - Chasse Neige

Tokyo Sexwhale

Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses - or was that one of the obvious inclusions?

Fear - Fuck Christmas

Always goes down a storm. bit short though so if you're gonna do the electric boogaloo you'd better do it quick.

I was ace.

Cunts playing deep house, bearded twats nodding heads, girlfriends looking bored.

I found a splash of Benny Goodman, a dash of Sultans of Ping, a repeated administration of Phil Spector, a thrust of KLF and a wriggle of Jimmy Cliff soon got the less painfully cool people (ie most of the packed place) bouncing about and I left a happy, breathtakingly wasted, man a few hours later.

Happy Winterval, y'all...

Which bit are you denying Phes?

The "cunt" or the "deep house" accusation?

You played breaks if I remember.

The cunt accusation I stand by 100% though.

Happy Winterval, Cunt.

I played some silly Franz Ferdinand mixes and Ugly Duckling, Rapture, Kasabian mixes, Dutch Rhythm combo, bit of electro, Kraak and Smaak, mashup rubbish, and THEN chucked three or four mid-tempo housey numbers on at the end because i figured Jon Bewlay would play something along those lines.

no breaks?

edit - ooh yes. Happy Christmas, i owe you £20.
