Quote from: "NerdBoy""Live by the sword die by the sword."

So soldiers don't deserve are sympathy if they snuff it then, going by your interpretation of that? They put themselves at risk, mixing with murderous folk etc.

Of course they deserve the sympathy that goes with putting your life on the line for your country, as opposed to dropping your knickers for some pervert to get some easy cash for your next fix.

Wow. You really are a twat, aren't you?

I almost feel ashamed of myself for not debating this with you properly, but frankly there doesn't seem any point. Debates require some common frame of reference, and you seem to live in some kind of right-wing BizarroWorld.

Felatio Imperative

Quote from: "Still Not George"Oh, no. You don't get off that easily. 10 seconds is not nearly enough time.

Actually, I was counting down until someone made the obvious joke about friction burns/me being a wanker. The absence of which leads me to conclude that I am universally popular.

You weren't paying attention, were you? "Get off"? Honestly.

Is your pronouncement that I am a 'twat' because you feel my assessment is inaccurate, or just uncompromisingly blunt? Because if it is the former, you are wrong. And if it is the latter, then I would rather be a twat that speaks the truth than a beslubbering foot-licker that skirts around it.

Aha, your subtlety surpassed me.

You said it the other day, in one of the paedophile-related threads. I'm not going trawling though, just to prove that you call me a cunt on a regular basis.

I just made a five second search and it proved you to be a liar.

I'm a fighter not a lover.

emo_bliss

Quote from: "terminallyrelaxed"Personally, I can see no excuse for his continued existence. I'm certain his bigotry serves to inform and encourage that of the mentally challenged people who read and agree with him, and as such I believe he is a tangible source of evil in people's lives.
Printing this kind of thing perpetuates homophobia, racism and hatred and general intolerance, all of which have a detrimental effect on all our lives, and indeed mean the end of some people's.
Much like religious fanatics (we'll allow them their opinions and lifestyles, but they won't allow us ours) the only logical conclusion is that killing him would not  be immoral - the benefit to so many lives outweighs the snuffing out of one.

I like to think of myself as a person who tries as hard as he can to understand why people do, think and feel the things they do. This, I think, is one of the reasons why I have such a progressive, liberal, compassionate approach to, for example, crime. My determination to understand and empathise with people even extends to seemingly vile right-wing journalists. For instance, after reading an interview with Melanie Phillips in G2 a while ago, I could see that maybe she shifted so unexpectedly from the left to the right because she felt as if she was watching her children become victims of a system which she believed couldn't provide them with the education they needed. I see Melanie Phillips as a woman who harbours some rather irrational, hysterical views, but I don't think she's venomous or hate-filled - far from it.

I don't want to go into my views on crime right now, since they're not entirely relevant - read the "Prison Reform" section of Johann Hari's website if you want an idea of my views, since he and I are very much kindred spirits in that area (and, indeed, quite a few other areas too, but I shan't go into that right now). However, I will say that I don't go around reacting to some news story on "yobs" breaking into an OAP's house by wishing that they would be thrown in prison without any help or support. I don't believe that, because someone kills another person, they are "bad" or "wicked" or "evil" or that they should be "made to suffer". Hell, I don't even believe such things about someone who kills a whole load of people. And, as if I'm not being topical enough with the whole serial killer thing, I may as well add that I don't hope the people who caused the carnage on 9/11 or 7/7 (just examples - I'm aware that these aren't the only terrorist attacks which have ever happened) "rot in hell". This is partly because I don't believe "hell" exists, but it's mainly because they aren't monsters. Messed-up and damaged, sure, and deeply alienated, but not evil.

When it comes to Richard Littlejohn, however, my compassion fails to reveal itself. I wish, quite simply, that he was dead. I wish untold amounts of pain upon him. I find myself wondering if I could perhaps convince myself of Satan's existence, so that maybe - just maybe - I could derive some comfort from literally praying to Satan (if that's what devil worshippers do - and I'm not talking Church of Satan stuff here, so Anton Szandor LaVey can piss off) for his death. I hate him, and then I feel annoyed at myself for hating him because it seems so horrible and unconstructive and pointless, and then the mild self-loathing dissipates and I find myself hating him even more. I'm amazed that this was even possible, but the article which prompted the creation of the thread has actually made me despise him even more than I did.

I try not to use the c- word too much, because I'm still not entirely sure what I think of it, but issues of misogyny aside, there's no doubting that, when you want to convey how much you hate someone, it's difficult to find any other word which will do. So I'll say it. Richard Littlejohn is a cunt.

EDIT: I'm sure Johann Hari won't mind me telling you all that the other day, whilst out Christmas shopping, I saw a baby which really, really looked like him.

I would imagine that the answer is both. Not only is your standpoint utterly wrong, but you seem hell-bent on expressing it in the most abrasive way possible, presumably because you enjoy thinking of yourself as the embattled voice of truth. And I don't think I'm being an hysterical 'Lady Di' type when I say that doing so at this time is hardly pleasant.

Quote from: "emo_bliss"I find myself wondering if I could perhaps convince myself of Satan's existence, so that maybe - just maybe - I could derive some comfort from literally praying to Satan (if that's what devil worshippers do - and I'm not talking Church of Satan stuff here, so Anton Szandor LaVey can piss off) for his death.

It won't happen - I'm starting to believe he is Satan.

The Wikipedia entry on him gives endless reasons to hate him even before you consider his recent unpleasant rant:

QuoteAfter leaving LBC in 1994, Littlejohn was approached by BSkyB managing director (and former Sun editor) Kelvin MacKenzie, and was offered the chance to present a nightly current affairs show on the TV channel Sky News. Called Richard Littlejohn, the show ran for one year and was not a huge success. Littlejohn later expressed his disappointment, claiming that British broadcasting regulations would not permit him to present the show in the style of Rush Limbaugh's programmes: "If Sky News could emulate its U.S. sister Fox News... ratings would soon shoot past the Astra satellite. But the regulators won’t allow it."

Well thank fuck for that.  Impartial right-wing biased news is not allowed on the television in the UK!  Blessed be!  Another reason not to leave the country, besides the fact that if I did leave the country I'd doubtless find myself confronted with tons of Littlejohn-loving ex-pats.

Then:

QuoteHe also wrote in 1991 that British women married to Iraqis 'should be left to rot in their adopted country, with their hideous husbands and their unattractive children'

Which... well, I honestly can't think of a response to that.  What the fuck can you say?

QuoteHe is often considered to be racist for his relentless attacks on asylum seekers and Gypsies, and for his comments on events such as the 1994 Rwandan genocide, about which he wrote: "Does anyone really give a monkey's about what happens in Rwanda? If the Mbongo tribe wants to wipe out the Mbingo tribe then as far as I am concerned that is entirely a matter for them."

Indeed, Richard.  Let's not worry about the darkies, eh?

QuoteCampbell cited David Aaronovitch's description of Littlejohn's novel as a "400-page recruiting pamphlet for the BNP". Littlejohn responded (referring to Aaronovitch): "What else do you expect from an overgrown student union leader who used to be a member of the Communist Party?" he later boasted he would include the quote on the cover of the book when it was reprinted. However, due to very poor sales this reprinting has not taken place.

Self then stated that he agreed with Aaronovitch's comments, and that he had read half of Littlejohn's book, which he described as "a kind of Tom Sharpe for the far right". Littlejohn said that he should "read the book in its totality", to which Self retorted "Why?... Does it turn into Tolstoy at page 205?"

Littlejohn's often-quoted response to this was "No it doesn't turn into Tolstoy. I don't set out to be Tolstoy. It is a much more complex book than that."

At this point, I'm close to giving up.  But it gets better:

QuoteIn 2004, Hari appeared as a guest on Littlejohn's Sky News programme and challenged him about his claims that an asylum seeker could claim hundreds of pounds per week in benefits, stating that the true figure was just £37.77 per week. He later wrote: "I asked Richard how much a single asylum seeker is given in benefits each week. You'd think that a journalist who writes about asylum twice a week would, of course, know something so incredibly basic. His response was clear. He snapped: 'I have no idea'."

It's very honest of him to admit that he has absolutely no idea about a subject he has spent acres of copy space ranting and writing about over the last five or six years.

Popular rumour has it that he's also a bastard to work for as well, even for his editors and paymasters.  Given that the careers of characters like Simon Dee have ground to a halt for far lesser crimes, you honestly have to ask yourself how a talentless, idiotic, tantrum-throwing prick like Littlejohn has actually managed to sustain a highly successful career.

The only plausible answer must surely be that he is an agent of Satan, and therefore praying to the devil will do you no good.  Sorry.

QuoteI'm a fighter not a lover.

As far as I an see you are a right wing twat. I just trawled through "Wasting police time" remember to remind me never to read a book on your advice again.

It was a waste of an hour and is a diatribe of  Tory rubbish,   how  it even got published is a mystery.

Quote from: "Felatio Imperative"...as opposed to dropping your knickers for some pervert to get some easy cash for your next fix.

Ah yes.  Prostitution.  That well known source of easy money.  I know I find sucking off foul smelling strangers with little concept of personal hygiene or social skills a breeze.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Quote from: "Felatio Imperative"
Quote from: "Shoulders?-Stomach!"

Come on, getting in a car isn't 'inviting a car crash' and a woman going out with a short skirt isn't inviting rape or murder.

Going out with a short skirt? I think there's a tad more to it than that. Soliciting sex with complete strangers is hardly a risk free enterprise.

All I'm saying is you have much more chance dying in a car crash than you have of being murdered during the act of prostitution. Both of these actions are conscious actions. It seems you have little sympathy for the prostitutes who were hooked onto drugs and since then surrendered their logical thinking in order to get their next fix. There are two options from there- blame the girls themselves or blame the people who involved them in this- you seem to be blaming the girls. I say being a prostitute invites murder even less than standing near to the edge of a cliff and I think it says something about you that you're able to equate the two so easily- not that I'm calling you a prostitute murderer but I think you have an unhealthy ignorance and close-minded disrespect of prostitution and an unfairly prejudicial view of prostitutes actions.

"No one with a shred of humanity would wish upon them their ghastly lives and horrible deaths. But Mother Teresa, they weren't."

So their deaths were all that tragic, then?!

"They weren't going to discover a cure for cancer or embark on missionary work in Darfur. The only kind of missionary position they undertook was in the back seat of a car."

Twat. Utter twat.

"We do not share in the responsibility for either their grubby little existences or their murders. Society isn't to blame."

"It might not be fashionable, or even acceptable in some quarters, to say so, but in their chosen field of "work'=", death by strangulation is an occupational hazard."

His total hatred of prostitutes is oddly suspicious. Go on, Richard, turn yourself in.

"An unpalatable article, but the most intelligent piece of journalism I've read in quite a while.

He may be serious, but that sounds like the most sarcastic thing I've heard in quite a while!

Does anyone remember Littlejohn showing how ignorant he really when he pronounced Tsunami on Question Time" as Tissami" or something equally appalling that got everyone glaring at him and he went very quiet afterwards?
