thought I'd kick off a new one of these with some DVDs:

http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?&sku=545925&tduid=8168d6b4893b4ea4fdc1e2f8e5c00fd9

Robert DeNiro movie collection -
Mean Streets
Taxi Driver
Casino
Cape Fear
Sleepers

in a 5-disc set for £8.99.

matt

That's fantastic, thanks for that! I've only already got Mean Streets out of those

Famous Mortimer

Play.com are doing the entire first 4 series of "Monk", the nice fun whimsical cop detective thingie, for £35. 16 DVDs of goodness.

niat

Thanks for that Surreal, I've just placed my order and pre-ordered the new Arcade Fire CD while I was there. That is a very good set of films for nine quid.

that's amazing. I've seen casino and got taxi driver, but would love to see the rest and for that price I can't refuse.

I've just checked my order status and it says: "On special order with our suppliers" which I don't like the sound of.

HMV seem to do this all the time, the main page for the DVD says "usually despatched within 3-5 days", but when you actually place an order you get the "special order" bollocks. I've cancelled several orders with them for this reason, and ordered elsewhere. They seem to set a low price to get you to order, then don't come up with the goods. Rant over, I'm off to pen a strongly-worded email to HMV!

surreal

hmmm.... I had sendit.com do that a week or 2 ago when I was ordering The Wire S2, page said 72hrs and a week later still on order.  I cancelled but its back in stock now...

I ordered something on special order from them a couple of weeks to ago, and it arrived about a week later, about par for the course with HMV.co.uk.

I got myself a Christmas pressie CD from HMV at the start of December.  It was a deleted, but not particularly hard to get hold of album.  It eventually turned up about two weeks back.  They're fucking gash, without exception.

Jim Jarmusch

Has anyone ever seen one of them FM3 Buddha Machines in a HMV store. They're for sale on their site but I have a £15 voucher I need to get rid of.

Go With The Flow

"The Sopranos" S1 (4DVD) is £17.99 at Virgin Megastores. "Ali G In Da USAiii" is £3.99 for a two-discer, also at VM.

Better yet, do a petition on 10 Downing Street's website. That'll teach 'em, or at least allow them to build up a splendid database.

Mister Cairo

For only £1.40 (price of the Independent) tommorow, you can get a free Clockwork Orange book

You can also buy other (formely banned) books for £3.49 each.

I gave up on emailing HMV's customer services as there was no address on the website, only a phone number. Bastards. Can't be doing with that phoning lark.

Has anyone actually received their bargain DeNiro box set yet?

HMV have slightly redeemed themselves by posting my new Nine Inch Nails DVD today, so hopefully I'll get it tomorrow, before its release date on Monday.

£7.99 gets you the Naked Gun Trilogy (in it's new packaging) from Play.com.

surreal

Did anyone actually get the DeNiro set for £8.99?  Its back up at £30 now...

Choicesuk.co.uk are doing complete seasons of the XFiles for £11.99, which is a pretty good deal for 24 episodes of (mostly) quality entertainment.   I've ordered S3 & 4, but despite having "Normally ships within 24hrs" on it its been 3 days and now they are "awaiting stock".

online retailers are liars!!!!

Paaaaul

I got a DVD Box Set  last week that I ordered on Boxing Day from ChoicesUK.
Beware!

They emailed me recently saying it was still on order from suppliers. I'm expecting an email any day now saying that the order cannot be processed.

ccbaxter

My DeNiro set, ordered coincidentally around the same time as the opening post in this thread, arrived last weekend. Ah well, that'll do, I suppose. I had other stuff to watch in the meantime.

Mine got sent out today. Am looking forward to it. I've never seen Mean Streets but been meaning to for a long time.

CaledonianGonzo

This bad boy is £10 in FOPP at the moment:

That's £40 off.  Only in-store, though, but still a steal if you like the man...

Yeah, I got mine last week, too. HMV seem to do this a lot. Stuff shows up as being in stock on the website and then suddenly turns out to be "on special order from their suppliers" when you order it.

Still, got a good bargain in the end, so thanks for the heads up.

mr. nice guy

Just spent 20 mins reading through this site - lists a few bargains but mainly for people looking for stuff to flog on ebay

Funny I ordered a few Wii games from them, they are delivered instantly. Mid afternoon and it still turn up the next morning. North West-UK and may guess they're another based in Jersey?

surreal

I did get the X Files boxsets I ordered from Choices, took about a week to get to me (UK midlands) after a couple of days of "On Order".
