I thought it would be nice to resurrect the thread for creatures of the night.

My sleeping pattern's really fucked at the moment. I don't have anything to do whatsoever and have no conceivable reason for getting up in the morning. For this reason I tend to sleep in until well into the afternoon. Today I got up at 17.30, which is probably a record for me. This means I won''t be tired until gone the early hours.

Any other people with similar sleeping habits? We can use this thread to burn the (well past) midnight oil.

clareQuilty

Jaysus, my sleepings pattern is a bit screwy as I've been pulling some late nighters trying to get a bloody essay done. Stopped working on it a while ago and have just been listening to some boss tunes and checking out my last.fm recommendations.
I'll probably watch an episode of Jericho, read a bit of 'Green River Rising' then go to bed.
Ah. The Good Life....

buttgammon

5.30pm! And I thought my sleep was fucked up!

Well, I tend to go to sleep at about 3 or 4am and wake up at about 11am but it can vary. I can sometimes go to sleep at about 3am and wake up at 5am and not be able to go back to sleep, but other times I can be asleep early (for me) at about 2am and sleep until about 1pm, so it can fluctuate wildly at times. At the moment it's generally around the same. I hang around here and browse Wikipedia in a chain, leading me on to endless pages of weird information about the Paraguayan Women's Under 17s Rugby Team or Biggar Labour Club or something similarly. I get a little tired at about 3 or so and I try to go to sleep about then. I can't sleep, so I listen to Up All Night on Radio Five Live and end up dropping off at about 4 normally.

I have a computer next to my bed which always seems very tempting and is probably part of the reason I'm such a night owl. I'm lying in bed now but I have no intention of going to sleep yet. I suppose that really doesn't help, because half of the time I'm in bed I'm not even attempting to get to sleep.

lactating man nips

I've been trying to correct my sleeping pattern the past few days but failing miserably. I did actually get to sleep before 12 yesterday but woke up twice in the course of 2 hours and after that couldn't sleep again so i was up till maybe 10 am before i sleep for another few hours. Its immensely frustrating.

SOTS

Well, it's quarter to three in the morning and i've gotten quite wrecked watching Eurovision...

I'm always up at this time though

Baxter

Bored and not at all tired watching old episodes of six feet under, ah this is the life.

buttgammon

I might actually attempt to get to sleep soon, but I bet it'll be a while before I actually fall asleep. Don't be surprised to see me here again in about an hour moaning about how I can't sleep!

Sam

I'm currently watching episodes of South Park. I might actually go to bed soon, though.

They all die! Even the annoying mother!! ]/spoiler/ whoops i've got that wrong.

squinky

I'm supposedly up late revising. Only I accidentally fell in love with Arrested Development. Oddly enough, Henry Winkler doesn't seem to be giving me the legal advice I think I'm going to need to get through my exams. Bastard.

jonno

Well I've just finished work, that's my excuse.

actwithoutwords

I've been home from a night out for almost an hour and half now, and am only now contemplating sleep. I tend to have a misguided idea that staying up and drinking water will make things better in the morning. But given that I could have gone to sleep before 3, I somehow doubt that.
But yeah, I tend to stay up til at least one, and bordering on 3 o'clock on my average night in recent months. Not healthy. Not healthy at all.

Edit: Oh I forgot to point out that the apostrophe is in entirely the wrong place in the thread title. *shakes head* Tiredness is no excuse for sloppy thread titling.

I'm still up because I'm cool. Lightweights.

Dr_Gloryhole

I am also supercool, thus am still awake.

I do have a reason thought, usually finish work at 4am or 6am. It does fuck with your head a bit, its a new job, but I have just got used to it. I hardly see the night now, and try to have 6 hours sleep per night. But its worth it because the job rocks

Sherringford Hovis

What is this "sleep" you're all talking about?

I might have had some once, long ago, but I didn't like it much. People lying about all unconscious, makes the place look untidy. I reckon death will be as much oblivion as I can handle in one go, no point rehearsing too much, I'm sure I'll be able to pick it up as I go along.

vacant

It's alright for some.
I can't remember the last time i got to sleep before 8 in the morning, despite the fact i'm prescribed good old 'powerful' sleeping tablets. They don't do much, apart from making me feel stoned, and even then they don't work as they should, despite the fact i take them at 10pm every night.
Sometimes it can get frustrating, but it's something i have to live with, and have been for the last 10 years, or so.
I think i should live in another time zone, more suited to my needs, especially ones which have 24hr pubs.
Memo to my doctor, give me some stronger medications,so i can at least interact with the outside world better.
Ah, sod it, think i'll have a glass of white wine, with a valium chaser.
Night or g'day all.

Emma Raducanu

It's around this time that my body starts 're-awakening' despite having no sleep, which is quite funny. I almost feel like going for a walk but after a night of adventure and eating unhealthy food, I don't think I'll bother. I'm pretty fucking cool aren't I! There's something strange about spending the night awake and still having that childhood thought that you're the only one but there's probably millions having their tea right now.

ccab

I haven't had ANY sleep whatsoever because I've been busy having tempestuous sex all night. It's a very good reason to be up through the early hours.

And now I have to go to an effing christening.

rudi

Dip your unwashed hands in the font.

They'll all grow up to be sexy Christians...

I'm still up so I guess I'm the coolest.

Why am I making my own mind up as to what your job is, based on your username?

Ha Ha Ha, it would make sense, working til all hours in the morning in my local public convenience, but that is not the case. I work as a croupier, coolest job ever, especially when you watch people lose upwards of 4 grand, and its you who has taken it all, and their is nothing they can do about it,

buttgammon

Croupier! That is cool. I honestly don't think I can name a cooler job.

Dr_Gloryhole

Only been in it about 6 weeks, did a college course (yes they do a college course in casino studies, or a BTEC Level 2 Advanced Diploma in Casino Operations as it is properly known) but it seriosuly rocks. Its my first full time job, only a young 'un, but I can't see myself doing it for more than 2 years. Want to get on the cruise ships next year, or maybe go asia

buttgammon

Do you get much of a chance to have a bit of banter with the punters? I bet you meet some interesting people.

Dr_Gloryhole

Aye, you have to keep them happy, so I try to chat to them and introduce myself. We get the regulars, who come and play everyday (mainly blackjack, its the best game to play, odds wise), so im trying to learn their names and habbits. Characters, yes, lots of weirdos, lots of people who just have to be drug dealers, lots of muslim, which is a bit odd, as they gamble and drink, but it's mainly full of (east) asian people, I think it's in their DNA to gamble, they all cash in with crisp £50 notes, I honeslty did not know how many asians live in my town (will not say which town).
I also see lots of first time players, who just come in to have a good night, maybe gamble £30, so you have to be quite easy with them, whilst not trying to upset the big customers.
You get the people who say "ah, i'm £2/3/4/500 down" and i think they expect you to try to help them perform a miracle and make a profit. But in the long run, the casino always wins, if i didn't then I wouldn't get paid

squinky

Croupier! That is so genuinely, unspeakably cool that I can't really speak. Short of being a Private Detective in the '30s, I can't think of anything that would impress me more.

But then, I'm easily impressed, like.

Dr_Gloryhole

I'm glad I have "cooled" so many people. But in reality its just a job, first week was intense, everythings new, plus I had never worked full time before. But now i just get on with it. Its a very disiplined enviroment, cameras constantly watch, inspectors check to see what you are doing, their are many rules to follow and little ettiquete type things that you have to do, i.e. proving how many chips their are, cutting the chips in certain number, announcing bets and payments. But aslong as you do all that, you can add your own style to it

I had never been in a casino before this job, i had no idea what to expect, but its quite different to what i imagined, well from my point of view anyway.
On a busy friday/saturday its really fun. we have 11 tables open, all full of people, all talking and drinking, its a great atmosphere, you can go for just a drink and still really get involved in the whole goings on, people cheering, shouting, chanting, willing cards etc

Goldentony

Hmm i;ve yet to go to bed, hopefully i can get one of the 8 jobs i applied for yesterday and start being normal again.

I like the idea of becoming a private detective, like someone mentioned before, though i guess i'd prefer to do it in the 70's and just recreate Shaft until the police turn up and take all my turtle necks off me.
