A scene from Grant Morrison's upcoming We3:

Oh yes.

Santa's Boyfriend

I've really got bored of Grant Morrison.  I read all of The Invisibles, and loved the first 2 series, but by the 3rd I'd got a little tired.  The Filth seemed to be the same old routine to me, so I didn't make it past the second issue.  He is undoubtedly a talented writer, but I hope he's going in a different direction this time.

Zenith is still his finest hour though.

[edited to include URL!]

You can also buy these from any decent store & make sure that creators get paid.

Yeah, naughty of me.  You might want to edit out the url i gave.  I just made up that new web address (oops-a-daisy.com) as well, and its a real site!

You couldnt make it up!

Well, you could, i did, didnt I?

Santa's Boyfriend

I have to agree, the english-language comics industry is in such a dire state that if you have any interest in it at all, you really should be paying for what you read.  This is one where reading it off the web for free really COULD kill the industry.

Its edited & thanks for doing that.

Theres far too many people who think that downloading everything is great & why should people be paid as its not going to hurt the creators is it?

It does & i know that the major companies are looking at a way to stop downloading comics to protect the existing talent thats in the industry right now.

Shade

I just read the first TPB of "Transmetropolitan". Quite liked it, nice artwork, interesting story. Spider Jerusalem seems to be one of these John Constantine/Frank Castle/Jesse Custer anti-hero type characters.

And if anyone could tell me where I could a pair of those shades, I'd really appreciate it.

They'll give you a serious headache.

DC released a limited set through Graphitti designs a few years back for £20 but your best bet would be ebay or one of the larger comic markets.

Shade

Tried Graphitti designs/e-bay, only site I found that sells them, is selling them at $120 and is sold out. I'll keep searching.

Also, I wouldnt mind getting my hands on one of them Starman badges.

Try Graphitti again for the badge, the shades were very limited so the $120 does not suprise me that much.

On another note the Chris Nolan Batman film is looking goooooood.

Tokyo Sexwhale

According to The Sun (where I get all my comics-related info) John Cleese is writing a Superman comic called "True Brit".  As you can guess from the title, it's a what if Kal-El had landed in England!

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2004272536,,00.html

There's more detailed info here, and apparently John Byrne is drawing it:

Cleese has only been tagged on to boost sales, its being written by Byrne as well as drawing it but shhhhh dont tell anyone.

*Bump*

The officical "Batman Begins" website has been updated.

http://batmanbegins.warnerbros.com/

http://batmanbegins.warnerbros.com/

The links are placed around the bat symbol.

Theres a few other pictures of Bruce Wayne, and Batman, and one of  Bats fighting Jonathan Crane floating around the net.

This movie just keeps getting better and better http://batmanbegins.warnerbros.com/page3.html come on, tell me he doesnt look like Jim Gordon!

Theres also major rumours of Steve Buscemi playing the Joker in the next film.

Xander

As well as Steve Buscemi, I've heard a pasing rumour that they're interested in getting Jude Law as Harvey Dent at some point (continuing the younger, "year one" feel) and also Robin Williams as the Riddler. He was the original choice, tipped for playing him in Batman Forever, before Jim Carrey came along.

Can't remember the websites, but it was probably posted somewhere on

http://www.comicbookresources.com or  http://www.aintitcoolnews.com

Yes indeedy. I was quite a Morrison fan (Invisibles, and his work on Doom Patrol among others. I bought the first two issues of his "Seaguy" mini, and it just seems weird for weird's sake. Even more so than Doom Patrol. I'll still buy the last issue, just to see what he's trying to do with it.

I may give him one last chance...

king mob

Grants still up there with the best, if he was just whoring himself to X Men, there would be people saying hes a whore, if he tries stuff like the Filth, hes treading old ground and past it.
Even his weakest work is still more interesting than a hell of a lot out there right now.

He cant win really.

Harfyyn Teuport

Has anyone seen Hellboy yet? Everything I've heard so far has been positive and I'm starting to get really excited about it being an honest-to-god creditable movie. I'm not sure, but wasn't the general consensus early on that it was going to be crap?

I'm currently writing a comic with a friend, if so inclined I might post some prelim shots here for you all to judge. It's only a CV-fodder thing for the artist and I just fancied having a go at writing one so we're making no attempt to actually establish/sell it etc. I'd assume it would be illegal to do so anyway,  as the story is a sprawling copyright-infringing mess. All I'll say is that it features a host of Saturday matinee action heroes from the 80s such as Magnum PI and the A-Team and it's called When A Plan Comes Together.

Having just read that back the idea seems really self-consciously wanky and gimmicky, and the image that keeps recurring in my head is of some floppy haired student twats shouting Mr T's catchphrases at eachother and laughing about shellsuits and Wham. I promise its better than that. It's not a post-modern deconstruction of the 'I love 1980s popculture' myth which takes a sideways glance at some of your favourite characters from yesteryear.

Perhaps a clumsy comparison could be made with the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Only set in 1988, not 1898.

Hellboy is ace. simple as that.

If Sin City lives up to what they've done with Hellboy then we're in for another treat.

Xander

Don't know if anyone cares, but it's official now that McG and Michael Bay are no longer involved in the Superman picture...

http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=17942

There's a link for some proof, although most of it is just Harry Knowles ranting how he wants to see a Bizarro/Superman film.

Oh, and i just read this gem on http://www.comicbookresources.com. Every week, they do a rumour column, and rate the rumours green for true, yellow for possible, and red for complete untruths or blatant speculation. This got a yellow, if anyone cares:

QuoteNo sooner have HEAT got Hal Jordan back as Green Lantern than... well... this happens.

Oh you have to feel sorry for the poor guys.

Not only is the planned "Green Lantern" movie featuring the Kyle Raynor Green Lantern character, but the executive in charge of making the Green Lantern movie wants to make it a comedy. The choice for the ring bearer?

Jack Black.

And, naturally, people at DC may wish the comic to resemble the film when it's released...

king mob

A green Lantern film would be awful anyhow, the concept would be hard to put on screen without taking the piss anyhow.

Dont forget Spiderman 2 is out this week and it looks fab.

Xander

Thats quite true, but still...DC have some serious 'splainin to do with thier films. Batman Begins looks cool, but still. Catwoman? Constantine? If this is true, again, GL? Seems to me that they're systematically ruining all of their franchises for the future. Marvel, at least, have some respect for their characters, even though the films can be somewhat hit and miss. I much prefer DC characters and series, but Marvel beat them in the film stakes hands down. At least, until I see BB.

king mob

The reason Marvel are having more success is because all of their films are made with Marvel keeping a very close eye on things & they try as much as possible to get fans of the characters(Sam Raimi, Ang Lee for example) involved in the making of the film.

DC pass on total control to whoever decides to produce the film creating a mess like Batman & Robin & what looks like the Catwoman film.

Theres a great story Kevin Smith tells (its on his DVD) where he outlines his meetings with Jon Peters in relation to writing Superman Lives & how he had to deal with requests like Superman having to fight a Polar Bear & how Superman shouldn't fly in the film.
If the film had been made it would have been a total fuck up, the script is awful,  it would have made Batman & Robin a work of high art if it got made.

Xander

Yeah, I've got those DVD's. The best thing is when he tells of Jon wanting the big fucking spider - "And he went on to produce a little film called "Wild Wild West".

I still can't decide whether it's a joke, or what actually happened.

king mob

Have a read of Kevin Smiths Superman script here.

As much as i really like Smith i cant bring myself to like this script but it does make interesting reading.

Xander

I'm reading it now. The first thing that springs to mind is that it's like a sub-par Keith Giffe/J.M. DeMatteis script. At least it references the wider DC universe, but so far it's being incredibly cocky. He's even put his own characters in, for God's sake. I'm not really as up on Supes as I am on my other DC heroes, but I presume he named Governor Caitlin Bree after his own Clerks creation, not the other way round. Would I be right? And frigging Brodie - oh, come off it! Right, I need to read the whole thing before I rant, otherwise it's "edit, edit, edit" time.

As Mr Horse would say - "No, sir, I don't like it!"

Harfyyn Teuport

Quote from: "Harfyyn Teuport"God that Superman Lives script is dire.

Its really, really awful even when you take into account he was working with Peters somewhat bizarre requests.

There's a fuller picture here of the tale behind this thankfully unmade film.

Shade

A comedy GL film? Oh good god, I can't find the words...
If they were to make GL film, I'd eitherr choose Hal Jordan or Alan Scott, not fucking Kyle Rainer. They'd have to go into the story of how he got the ring in the first place, which would involve Hal's later days as a GL. Stick with Hal or Alan, they're the best.

According to imdb there making a sequal to Hellboy, but its imdb so take it for what you will.

Yep, a sequel to Hellboy will be with us in 2006 hopefully & if its as good as the first one then i'll be first in line.
