Just watched a trailer for Resident Evil 4.

I'm buying a Gamecube as soon as I can....this looks incredible:

Capcom PS4 Video

Killer 7 looks mighty fine too.

I've not really got into the Resi thing (done RE Zero and was distinctly unimpressed),  but this...   MOISTMOISTMOISTMOISTMOISTMOISTMOISTMOISTMOISTMOIST! If it can cap Eternal Darkness for fear factor, i'll be pleased, but it looks damn cool anyway.

WTF that last game was about I have no idea...

Quote from: "bill hicks"Although remember the mutterings of Rockstar (bollocks I'm still going to call them DMA) being narked with Sony and look at the first post in this thread.

Manhunt has lost it's "PS2 Exclusive" tag mighty quickly, and the Xbox double pack has sold very well. Expect an Xbox version well before a year, I would think sometimes over the new year period.

It's an old deal, though, that was supposedly made just after GTA3 was released, and only applies to the GTA series.  Although I might be wrong.  There's a 357th time for everything.

Heh, they really should have stuck to the name 'DMA Design', as it was a stroke of genius:  'Doesn't Mean Anything'.  Nice.

Can we do just game reccomendations? I've just dug out Conflict: Desert Storm 2 (xbox) which I put away half way through in a fit of middle class angst and politically correct guilt when Dubya invaded Irrak. Put it in on a whim and I must say its cracking, haven't played it for a year more or less and forgotten how engaging it is. I bet you could pick it up pre-owned pretty cheap these days, the first one's certainly in all the bargain bins and worth it, but this ones got more effects, and more varied missions. The gameplay is the same though, and amore enjoyable squad shooter than Ghost Recon verrall I would say.

Legend of Zelda - pick up the emulator - zsnes, and the roms, and it works sweet sweet sweet.

I honestly can't get over how good these old games are. My friend came round and we played Mario Kart for 8 hours yesterday. I nearly developed epilepsy.

I can't remember the link or be arsed to google it, but I can put the emu and roms on soulseek if anyone messages me later on tonight. Obviously you need to own the orignal copy of the roms blah blah blah.

bill hicks

The Emu should be easy to to find but if you need the Roms check:

www.romnation.net

Good selection of stuff but, as with all roms site, make sure your Anti-Virus is nice a solid and you read the details of every window that pops up before clicking it. A sweep with Adawre after wouldn't hurt.

I've got this for PC. It got bad reviews, but I like it. Always play as the SAS (gotta keep the British end up), and I just love all the tactical aspects of it, and the general feeling of being in a modern warzone.

How would you rate it compared with Call of Duty or Halo?

Cheese Arse H Christ

by analogy.....

Halo = The Montgolfier Brothers' Balloon

CoD = The Wight Brother's KittyHawk

FarCry = Darth Vader's Fucking Death Star

I bought yesterday and confirm it looks very good. Its hard too. The computer AI is the first by which I've been really surprised. As I was stood watching the sea three shuffled round a corner behind me. As I turned, before I fired off a load of machine gun rounds a noticed they had staggered so they could all fire at once - a la Zulu.

But - although it doesn't really matter - is it supposed to be a stealth game or an out and out shooter? I'm not getting very far doing either, because as soon as I shoot anyone guards sound alarms and about 10 guards start chasing round the Island. Should I be using the machete all the time.

And did it work fine? I got horrible little black dots until I played with the ATI control panel.

From reading my old copies of Edge and salivating (and cursing my graphics card....damn you Natwest! Give me money!!!) it appears that it's a semi-stealth based game. You can't wade in or you will get slaughtered, but stealth will only get you so far. The developer mentioned something about using the topography to view your surroundings and work out how to kill the enemies ahead (the Sniper rifle has a huge range apparently).

Sort of a first person Manhunt type gameplay I think.

It really is harder than Mohammed "I'm 'ard" Bruce Lee on viagra.

Borboski

Oh yes! After tinkering about, I've worked out how to get the graphics nice, and the sound on loud and 5.1... and I'm left spunking in my pants at Far Cry.

I can't help myself. I want to spend my evenings reading about political economy, but everynow and then I get a new game just to get me moneys worth out of my goodish pc.

It's magnificent. Absolutely beautiful. The AI - well, I don't know if anyone's played half-life, but that's the only other time I've felt like I'm competing with the PC rather than just looking at the pretty pictures - when the marines first fight you, and rather than stand a la doom and fire slow fire balls at you, they roll, jump behind cover, throw grenades - and suddenly you're actually running away... the same thing here...

They spread out, call for support, etc.

There's a real feeling of the Predator- i.e. out in the jungle, hearing a rustle, and croaching as they silently approach.

Anyway, that praise is out the way - any good examples people can think of great AI.

Obviously Eliza wins out.

Bill Oddie

Got Far Cry working this evening, I'm taking a 2 min break to say that this is honestly a gaming experience on a par with Half Life. It's stunningly beautiful and has the best AI I've seen, it's so realistic that as boborski says above, it's actually like you're enaged in a battle of wits rather then playing a computer game.

I've said this before about games, but you honestly don't actually need two kidneys to function as a human. Flog one of them off and buy your self a Penticom Megawatt Super-Gfx chip for your computer and play this game. Now.

Modern graphics are just getting beyond a joke these days. How long until we can't tell the difference? 20, maybe 30 years tops?

mook

Did any of you peeps have much trouble getting FarCry to work smoothly?

The game seems to be ok until I run into a few of the enemy and then it just chugs along a what seems like 2 frames per second. I've turned down all the graphic settings and it's made the game playable but it looks fucking ugly.

Any ideas on what I could do to make the fucker work without it looking horrible.

Oh I should add my PC is fairly high spec, a 2.6 ghz P4 with a 128mb graphics card and I've installed the new patch for the game and updated my drivers.

Does anybody know anything about 'campfire'? I'm still waiting for it.

Purple Tentacle

Not a new release by any stretch, but Metroid Prime is pretty cool, I'm enjoying it immensely.

I rate Metroid Prime VERY highly indeed. It is a great example of the FPS genre and i have found it constantly entertaining and rewarding...

Quote from: "Macerate and Petrify"Silent Hill 4 is the main thing i'm looking forward to this year.

This is going to make me sound out of date. But anyway, I finally got round to playing Silent Hill 2 properly, after having it sitting on my shelf for about a year. Anyway, I completed it now, and also the bonus sub-mission that comes with it (Director's Cut version).

Can anybody explain how, even though I completeted the thing, I still can't fathom the story out? Mary is dead, right? Or something? Who was that woman I killed at the end?

It got a bit confusing for my little mind.

Still no news which is a shame. It looks a great idea and with SH4: The Room, Resi 4 and The Suffering all due soonish too this year could be a great one for horror games.

Captain Mildred

Yeah, but reality would have been upgraded several times by then.

Mister Six

Quote from: "shanklyforever"Can anybody explain how, even though I completeted the thing, I still can't fathom the story out? Mary is dead, right? Or something? Who was that woman I killed at the end?

Mary is dead; James killed her. Silent Hill picks up on the tortured psyches of its inhabitants and creates horriffic monsters that take the form of their guilty secrets. That's why the innocent little girl can't see any monsters and the lunatic fatty sees only people who want to mock him for killing the dog. The monsters are representations of his guilt: the nurses represent the hospital where Mary died, the "kicking" creature is made out of female legs, etc. The woman who looks like Mary (can't remember her name) is just another figment of his imagination made physical. That's what I reckon, and so does some bloke on gamefaqs.com - look up Silent Hill 2 and read the plot synopsis.

Dunno about the tent-headed men though.

I was just thinking it was a nightmare, and didn't make any sense. I remember it said he killed Mary, to put her out of her misery.

But then he talks to her at the end of the game.

Very, very bizarre. But excellent.

She's a figment of his imagination given physical form by Silent Hill.

SPOILERS

If you get the "Good" ending then Maria (the clone of your wife) is the end boss. After killing her, James finally forgives himself for his wife's murder. Now that he no longer feels guilty, silent Hill recreates Mary, who forgives him and allows him to flee the town with the little girl.

If you get the "Dodgy" ending then Mary is the end boss; she is his guilt warped into a physical monster. James cannot absolve himself fully of his crime. He kills her, but still feels that he needs to be punished, so Silent Hill brings Maria back to life one last time. James leaves with Maria, who is dying - a representation of the lingering guilt which remains in him.

If you get the "Bad" ending, James kills off Maria but is overwhelmed by his guilt. Silent Hill recreates Mary, but even she cannot talk James out of committing suicide.

Purple Tentacle

I am such a spakka, I just bought a Civilization III expansion pack rather than Civilization III.

What a twat.

However, I'll bet everybody who buys PC games has done something similar at one point....
