By total coincidence I came across this (ClearType Tuner) a few minutes ago, and it tweaks things nicely:

I had to download the PowerToy version because the online version didn't work for me.

Itunes is horrible software, winamp is the audio app to use, its like firefox to IE.

Foobar2000's better.  But that's just my opinion.
