Going on tuesday, thought I would ask you for any advice or recommendations.
I am going mainly for the weed, and for the casino (I am banned from all UK casinos)

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Get banned from all dutch casinos.

Dr_Gloryhole

Nah, its because I hold a license to work in UK casinos meaning I am unable to enter any other than where I work

Shoulders?-Stomach!

That won't stop you getting banned from all dutch casinos! Use your imagination.

Run up to a poker table and steal everyones chips before frantically legging it, manically.

Or call the croupier at a black jack table a double-dealing cunt.

Make me smile

Avoid the Bulldog, avoid the argentinian steak house on the left hand side of the square where one of the Bulldogs is, try to keep at least some of your wits about you around town late at night, go to the Hill Street Blues (couple of doors down from the Flying Pig hostel, next to the police station).

Have fun!

PS go to the zoo (I mean literally the zoo, it's not the name of a coffeeshop). 'The Wall' does good hash, or was it the 'Pink Flloyd'? One of them anyway. There's enforced buggery in the other one, but you are obviously a gambling man, so it's worth it.

I had a whale of a time in a cafe called The Bluebird (I think). Mainly because it was playing awesome hip-hop and a bit of ragga and breakcore.

Beware, hotel prices have shot up dramatically it seems. I'm there in July for the North Sea Jazz Festival and at the moment it looks like we're just going to wait until we get there to book, as prices have doubled since last year.

McQ

Here's my top tips!:

Hang out in Vondelpark a lot!
Go to the Kashmir lounge.
Go to Nemo (great kiddies Science museum - http://www.e-nemo.nl/)
Go to Anne Frank's house.
And I would say go to the museum of Modern art but I think it's been moved to a temporary location, so I'm not sure about that one.
Get a pedal boat and go up and down the canals, crashing into houseboats and narrowly avoiding tourist boats.
Museumplein is cool, too.

Oh! and hire bikes! You'll be amazed how quickly you can get around the city on them. We got ours from here:

When you get hungry, have a hot dog with mostard.

You've rather skipped over the most interesting part of your topic!  Why are you banned from all UK casinos?  Are you too good?

Dr_Gloryhole

the third post might be helpful to you, just look up there ^

Santa's Boyfriend

Hmm, don't know how I managed to miss that.  Ah well, was rather hoping it would be more interesting...

This photo was taken right by Nemo.

Mostly I spent a wonderful time in Amsterdam just wandering and taking photos. Generally places I visited were less enjoyable than wandering the streets.

What restrictions are on hand luggage now?

I'm taking one rusack, was hoping to take it as hand luggage, but I can't find out whether i will be allowed to take this on board or if i will have to check it in

phucough

Grasshopper's a good coffee shop. Magic Mushroom Gallery's always worth a visit (the pics are best enjoyed when under the influence). Avoid The Doors Palace coffee shop/bar, and the one with palm trees on the outside which is run by a Spaniard, Calypso or something. Van Gogh Museum, Riyksmuseum... etc.

buntyman

Buy a selection of t-shirts depicting well known cartoon characters and historical figures smoking the wacky baccy.

Depends on the size of the rucksack.  Small, day-pack size, you can take it on.

neveragain

Don't get lost inside of a massive Trance-music festival, becoming steadily so panicked that you jump into a taxi with complete strangers and then after a forty-five minute journey realise it has dropped you nowhere near the hostel where you're staying. It isn't pleasant and disrupts the holiday for others.

I'm here for a week starting today and even just being here since this afternoon, I've realised again that it's a real city of extremes. It doesn't help that I'm walking around with my beautiful girlfriend and every guy who passes us has a good long look, but then there's a really positive experience to balance that out.

My concern is more for her being on her own around the city, but really that's just being overprotective - considering moving here for a course and trying to decide how it would be to live here rather than just visit. Still undecided.

Well, when I went a few weeks back I stayed with one of my friends who is studying over there. He loves the city, the uni life and everything about it except for getting a job there as the pay sucks in comparison to the UK.

Lord of divs

Avoid any kind of improv comedy shows, I went to an American one near Dam square and it was utter toss.  You know the kind of thing 'Pretend your the Prime minister and you've just found out the chancellor of the exchequer is a crazy paedo eater!'   Actually if it was that I might of laughed, but through my stoned haze all I wanted to do was jump on stage and dragon punch the mincing twat.

Oh if you want a good breakfast get down to 'Barney's' its a great place to get a full English and I definitely recommend a bike, you seem to get to places rather than randomly walking around in circles monged.

Glebe

I worked in Holland for about a year, with numerous trips to Amsterdam. And Alkmaar, too.

Buy a guide book so you can avoid all the tourist-ified cafes, they're fucking awful.

Surely a guide book entry for a cafe automatically turns it into a tourist-ified one?
