Godzilla Bankrolls

Gragh - I watched 300 last night, and now all my hopes for this ever being good have been dashed.

SO...YOU...DIDN'T...ENJOY...IT...THEEEEEEEN?

Godzilla Bankrolls

Good Lord, no. Awful film. And I like Frank Miller.

A trailer for Watchmen is going to be attached to The Dark Knight, so should be online (probably in pirated form) in a week or so.

Santa's Boyfriend

At this stage it's bound to be just the logo zooming out very slowly.

Santa's Boyfriend

Yup, that's pretty much what I'm expecting!

Trailer's up.  http://www.empireonline.com/video/watchmen/

EDIT - and fucking hell it looks rather fantastic actually.

Ahh, doesn't it just?  Oh, I know full well that it could turn out awful, but I'm still grinning over that 2:12 minutes I just saw.

Catalogue Trousers

Gah, the bloody thing's been taken down already!

no_offenc

Ssssssh.  FLV of it is here.  Right-click / save-as.  You'll need an FLV player though.  I got one from wimpyplayer.com which works fine.

niat

Thanks for the heads up, no_offenc and double thanks for the link. That does indeed look pretty impressive, and remarkably faithful to at least the look of the graphic novel.

Glebe

According to a guy on SomethingAwful that works on the VFX team for this film, the body explosions seen in the trailer are not the R-rated ones that'll be in the film.  So the Doc Manhattan origin will be a lot more like the book, and the guy getting blown up in Vietnam won't just be a blue flash, I would assume.

Claude the Racecar Driving Rockstar Super Sleuth

Maybe it's just the wobbly line around his speech bubbles, or Jeffrey Combs' performance as The Question in Justice League Unlimited, but I always imagined Rorschach sounding a bit crazier than he does there. I hope they're not trying to position him as just some uncomplicated badass.

Cheers. How good does that look, eh?

wheatgod

No good. Not raw enough, too polished. Looks like an Xmen film.

Minty

Absolutely wheatgod. I can accept that they have to sell it as a big Hollywood action movie but it never felt that way in the original, the few action sequences in the comic were gritty and nasty not this fucking slow-mo to a rock music soundtrack terrible, TERRIBLE glossy pornography of violence approach. Having read some of the interviews with the alleged R rating and inclusion of the Black Freighter (on the DVD perhaps) and fidelity of the source material my initial concerns were reduced, however this sucks.

Then again, maybe Snyders playing the game and trying to sell it as a run of the mill action thing but will surprise us all next March. Hmm. Fucking doubt it. <prays for an alternative reality with Gilliams 12 part HBO adaptation...>

Pah, I say! And pish! I was thinking of the Doc Manhattan character.

See, I never even noticed the soundtrack. And I'm a sucker for glossy pornography of violence.

I liked 300 and Sin City :)

Hmmm. The Owlship, Comedian, and Rorschach all look good...very good. Nite Owl is a little too cheesy-looking, but only a little. Ozymandias is painfully embarrassing to look at.

And Silk Spectre...this is the point that I was trying to make some time ago. This isn't Silk Spectre - this is some pathetic fetishistic thong-clad Elektra clone.

Still...there's enough here that looks good that I'm still looking forward to it.

Ocho

Isn't that a remix of the Smashing Pumpkins song from Batman & Robin?

samadriel

Ocho:  Yes.  (Christ!)

I think that's the appropriate appearance for a Watchmen film -- if they stick to the subject matter, that should subvert the aesthetic beautifully.  Silk Spectre's new duds are going a bit far, but if Laurie's still Laurie, that won't matter.

This does look a bit inelegant though; having Night Owl running about in open light makes yer trailer look a bit 'Mystery Men'...

Hey look, Dreiberg does a Big No, I don't remember that.
Spoiler alert
Oh, I guess it's when he hears about his ole buddy.  Poor Nite Owl.

I do.  Fix those sleeves and you're set (nice codpiece, arsehole!).

I read, over on the Watchmen Wiki, I think, that the designer was going for the modern superhero aesthetic a la Batman. If you could imagine the Ozy from the Watchmen comic dressed like that he'd look like a hero/villain from the 60s Batman series.

Yeah. I think some people are missing the point - with the exception of Doc Manhattan, all the characters in Watchmen aren't really superheroes... they're wannabe superheroes. Like an incredibly dangerous Mystery Men. Of course Ozymandias looks like Batman, cos that's kinda who he thinks he is...

Cerys

And Doc Manhatten - oh yes.  But the question on everyone's lips must surely be ... will he be lots of naked?

Santa's Boyfriend

They're superhero archetypes, and since those archetypes have moved on since the 80s it does make sense to update them, even if the film is set in 85.

Cerys - I suspect so, but I notice he wasn't anatomically correct in that trailer.  Hopefully that's just to secure the all audiences trailer rating.  To be honest he doesn't look finished anyway.
