Fuck me, I LOVE YouTube:

Ultramagnetic MC's - Travelling At The Speed Of Thought:

What's with the Numbers loop though?  Don't remember that on Critical Beatdown.

Eric B. & Rakim - I Ain't No Joke:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zu4RM1Iq-wg

PE - 911 Is A Joke (Typical YT sync issues, so you could try this live version instead)

Slick Rick - Children's Story:

Slick Rick & Doug E. Fresh - Ladi Dadi (live):

Two fan-made ones:
7L and Esoteric - Word Assocation (actually quite well done.  LOVE this song, it's on one of my CaB CD Tree discs)

And Ice Cube - No Vaseline:

Al Tha Funkee Homosapien

What, so just cool rap videos or rap songs you like or just whatever as long as it's to do with the hippity-hoppity music that da kidz seem to like these days?

REALLY good video from some show in the 90s. A little freestyle over a beat featuring pretty much every big name in 90s East Coast rap bar Nas and Jay-Z. Wu-Tang, KRS One, Das EFX, Gangstarr, Tribe Called Quest, MC Lyte, loads of others and, hah, Mad Lion.

Souls of Mischief - 93 'Til Infinity. Just because it's one of the best tunes ever, never mind just rap songs.

Blackalicious - Alphabet Aerobics. But cheesy but and impressive all the same

I posted a bit of Mobb Deep in the 1000 singles thread, but this is also tight. I'm a sucka for any rap songs with piano samples.

Speaking of piano samples here's a tasty little DJ Premier production for Jeru The Damaja to rhyme over.

A short little EPK for Illmatic.

Stop the violence. Yeah, that didn't really work did it guys?

Ice Cube - No Vaseline:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvRc7pwnt0U

Can't have No Vaseline without a look-in from Tim Dog - Fuck Compton

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUoGFU7VnMM

Step To Me - Tim heard that NWA were going to reply to Fuck Compton, so he snuck this out quick... What with Ice Cube leaving and these two sides, NWA never made another record, I don't think. This isn't the vocal performance on the record, but it's OK and the beat is still fuckin' great. Bollocks to the censoring again.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wH8PwhUAlI

Krs One & Tim Dog - I Get Wrecked (fucked up by the censoring but still awesome - bassline courtesy Kool Keith, it says on my copy) KRS' verse is probably the finest performance he gave in his whole career. And it's clear (on the original, not here with all the chopping-up) that it's all-in-one-take, unlike Tim's.

Wow!  Never even heard of this, excellent clip.  I had to google to find out where I'd seen Shawn Colbin before - turns out it was Larry Sanders.  And she also supported Richard Thompson on tour...interesting.

I looked up some of my mates on the UK Hip Hop circuit and found these...

Life from Phi-Life Cypher freestylin' in Nappa's house...

Phi Life Cypher (pronouced Fe' Life Cypher, BTW) were part of the Gorillaz for a brief time at the outset. I believe Damon Albarn was keen, but they were ousted nonetheless, being kept on for the live gigs at a £150/gig. They got as far as recording this track + they voiced the TV ads + they went as far as having cartoon characters drawn up for them.

MC Mell'O' - I recorded & mixed his album, Thoughts Released, which came 4th in Hip Hop Connection's recent top 50 UK albums of all time.

London Posse (currently working with Bionic this year on several things, including a London Posse revival - their album Gangster Chronicle, which I also worked on, came number 1 in the HHC top 50)

Blade (+Respek BA from Glasgow, who I've only chatted with on the phone, although I may be meeting up with him this year) at his last ever gig (I'm there in spirit + on the backing track playing bass) (this track is the title track of number 10 in the HHC chart)

Not very good really. A song built around a sample from a song built from a sample but it doesn't really work and Kanye is not really a very good rapper. He's done a few quite good things in his career but not enough to warrant his self-appointed position as the savour of hip hop. The video's okay in rip-off of Akria style type thing.

Does anyone have an mp3 of that version of Travelling At The Speed Of Thought with the Numbers loop and the two extra verses?!  I thought I had pretty much all their stuff, but don't remember ever hearing that before.  I guess that was the original, and they cut it down for Critical Beatdown?!  Why was it left off the 2004 remaster?

Didn't think I was going to find vids for The Show, as a whole bunch of Pop Idol shit came up, but here's two - the second isn't great quality:

The version on the album is described as a remix. I think there was an entirely different version out before the album's release.

Yeah that's what I figured, as the 2004 remaster has the "Original 12 inch Version" of Funky.  But I wonder why they put on the "Hip House Club Mix" of Travelling instead of that other version.

Hip House was a UK thing, as far as I can recall. That 12" it was on may have only been released over here.

Interesting, I was just trying to figure out when and where it came from.  It's only recently that I've heard the bonus tracks on the 2004 remaster.     I think I'll just rip the audio from that YT vid as I can't find an mp3 of it anywhere else so far.

Really?  Or is it just the remake they did?  I've been after the original for, oooooo, about 20 years now.  Thanks for the heads up, I'll have a google.

It's on there with the Mentally Mad 12inch, which it was backed with.  Hang on, just thought to check Amazon and it has some info:

Quote"Funky",on the 12" vinyl you can bearly hear them talking on the record between verses on the new edition, you can hear it clearer but the sample has been also messed with. KOOL KEITH's starting vocals to '...while I break off with ease' has been done over (sorry someone has to tattletale 'round here). Originals? Not quite but it still makes the album more refreshing though. "Traveling..." (Hip-House Club Mix) was not needed here. The remix radio version (the video version) was a better choice. It sample KRAFTWERK and AFRIKA BAMBAATAA & THE SOUL SONIC FORCE but I guess samples were not cleared. Bummer!

Overall,it's better than the 1988 release although we are missing joints like "M.C.'s Ultra (Part II)","Funky Potion" and the original "Traveling At The Speed Of Thought (1987)". Maybe in another 16 light years away there will be another edition. When the ULTRAMAGNETIC reunion is predicted (psyche).

Edit:  I'll need to compare it to the "Funky (12" Version Rmx)" on the B-Sides companion, cause it just seems like a clearer-sounding beat on the former?!

Maybe I should split this tangent off and merge it with the Ultramagnetic MC's thread, be a good excuse to bump it.
