Mr. Analytical

Would famous pieces of movie dialogue have turned out completely differently?

http://thesurrealist.co.uk/movie.php?word=cunt

Quite possibly...

Quote"One cunt's too many, and a hundred's not enough." From The Lost Weekend

Quote"You Can't Handle the Cunt!" From A Few Good Men

Quote"Cunt! Why did it have to be cunt? From Raiders of the Lost Ark

Quote"A Cunt.  Shaken, not stirred." From Goldfinger

Quote"Why are you wearing that stupid cunt suit?" from Donnie Darko

American's don't say cunt more because they know it doesn't sound half as good as when an British person says it, take Ed Norton saying 'cunt' and any east end gangster use of the word cunt...there is no comparison, we just have the accent that makes it seem so much more nasty evil scathing and brilliant.

hoverdonkey

Ben Kingsley is the finest exponent of the word I believe

wherearethespoons

Danny Dyer's use of cunt in Human Traffic is also a good one.

TC Raymond

Then there's Jeff Goldblum in Death Wish...

"God-damn rich CUNT!" *WHACK!* "I KILL RICH CUNTS!" *WALLOP!*

buttgammon

One American who has mastered the art of cunting is Larry 'Cunt' David. He incorporated it wonderfully in CYE and in my opinion, he is the finest cunter outside the UK.

Cockneys sound rubbish saying it. Maybe better than yanks but they sound like right pansies, "You Cahnt!!". It's only th epassion they put behind it that makes it work. You need a good northern lad to make it work properly.

Gulftastic

If anything , it seems to be used more in Yank TV shows than in Brit ones.

The Sopranos loved it, as mentioned Larry David made exquisite use of it.

Weeds is shy of the word either.

I can't remember the last UK show that used it.

A Scot would be even better.

El Unicornio, mang

De Niro does a good "You fucking CUNT!" when he says it to Sharon Stone in Casino after she ties their daughter up...

Also Pacino in Glengarry Glen Ross, saying "You stoopid fuckin' cunt" twice to Kevin Spacey

A northern lad would say 'cont' not cunt. So how is that saying it properly, you fucking northern monkey.

LECKIE

Joe Pesci useing the word "cunt"in Goodfellas.

boxofslice

There's an episode of South Park called 'Raisins' where they get away with saying cunt. Jimmy's trying to say the phrase ' you're a continuing source of inspiration'' but due to his stammer only gets as far as 'you're a cont.. you're a cont..'.  I think you have to see it to appreciate it but it is laugh out loud funny.

No they wouldn't. A notherner would emphasize the UN so it would be cUNt.

In other words. We would say it as you are supposed to say it!

Bigflood

I agree.  I'm Cumbrian and I've never heard anyone pronounce it cont.  I've personally not heard many better uses of the word than Richard E. Grant in Withnail.

What cunt said that?!

Bigflood you incredible cunt!!

EDIT: Sorry. Bigflood you terrible cunt!!!

Viero_Berlotti

I think a thick scouse accent might pronounce cunt something a bit like "cont". But the scouse accent is a bit of an aberration when it comes to northern English accents. Because of its history as one of the busiest ports in British history in its hey-day, and the amount of different nationalities that settled and worked in the area during a short time in the industrial revolution made it, for want of a better cliche, a real "melting pot".

So a scouse accent is very different from the general Lancashire tone.

Not really. Not to my ears anyway (I live in the North West). Just a hard "uh" sound like everyone else in the NW.

I agree with your brief history of the Skaus accent though. There is a lot of Welsh and especially Irish in there.

Northern Irish maybe, you Southern ponce. A proper Northener (someone from Yorkshire or, if you're willing to lower your standards, Lancashire) would say "cUnt".

Blue Jam

A Scouser would say coont but sounding different from a Manc. They would also say fooch. I love the Scouse accent, me.

They don't say "cunt" like that at all. I dunno, southern journo's seem to think all northerners say "fook", so maybe it is just a southern thing.

Little Hoover

Well regardless, southerners are better than northeners.

Yes. It would be different in the sense that the words to be replaced with 'cunt' will sound like the word 'cunt' when spoken, due to them being replaced with the word 'cunt'.

There's quite a few UK programmes on Channel 4 which use it: Shameless, Wedding Belles, Clapham Junction, I think it was used on Amir Khan's Angy Young Men as well.

Well, if you take the doulbe 'o' as rhyming with 'book' it kind of works. Doesn't it?
