I'm sure the download is only the first CD/10 songs.

It definitely is, but I think that these 10 are the songs being considered as 'the album' proper.

The rest are - supposedly - "extras", although they're certainly the lure to get people to shell out the £40.

Just to let you know - mel called to say that w.a.s.t.e are working on the current gear-grinding at inrainbows.com....it's getting busy in there - busier than they expected.

So if you please bear with us, it should get cleared out soon. I sound like a bouncer. Get behind the rope. No denim. Thanks for your patience with the site & interest in the record.

Jonny

There are quite a few problems with the pre-ordering apparently. That'll take the shine off it for the lads. It was bound to happen though.

That picture is a joke right?

it will be included in the download version if you decided to pay them nothing

El Unicornio, mang

I think they could still make a tidy profit off this. They're cutting out the record company, which saves them at least 90%, there's no packaging costs, overheads, etc. Basically their only expenses are the webspace and the cost of recording it. Even if everyone who downloaded put in one pound, they'd still be making the same amount of money that they would if they did it through a record label. Of course, this only really works if you're a mega famous band like Radiohead who really don't need a record label to promote them.

Well looking at the amount of people in this thread alone who are paying £40 for the box suggests you might be right. Most other people who aren't going for that option seem to be saying they'll pay a few quid for the download too, so I don't think they're about to kipping on park benches any time soon.

I compiled a youtube bootleg version of the songs that'll be on the album(s) minus 3 of them which are unknown at the moment. They've all got quite different quality and volumes unfortunately and I'm sure these aren't all the best versions, I mainly picked the first decent, full length examples.

Fucking hell, thanks chocky. Good work.

I thought about rooting around on YouTube for these, but couldn't be arsed. You've saved me a job, and I am truly grateful.

I'm gonna try and hold out on watching those clips, as hard as that may well prove.

I'm  - certainly trying - to do the same.  As tempting as they are - grand work Chocky - I'm trying to hold out so the new stuff's still fresh when I hear the album versions.

S'only nine days now.  Nine days.

actwithoutwords

Good stuff chocky. NME did that yesterday as well, under the headline "Hear In Rainbows here first!!!!11" Cunts.

Minor claim to fame: my crappy digital camera recording of the premiere of Videotape in May last year was the first recording of it to appear IN THE WORLD. The sound quality is crap and I missed the first 30 seconds or so, but I masturbated over the attention for weeks.

No version I have heard of it since has beaten that first night it was played, electrifying. To be honest, I'm so attached to it now, I'm desperately afraid of the recorded version being a disappointment. Hear is the full, decent quality version:

Radiohead- Videotape (Hammersmith 18/05/06)

Anyone who can stay away from the live clips until after next Wednesday do though, getting attached to certain live versions before you hear the recorded version can be a terrible thing.

Quote from: t_kingpin on October 01, 2007, 09:05:15 PMWhat wonderfull news. I'm a HUGE Radiohead fan.

Is that why you're called "t_kingpin", as a homage to "TChocky"?  Serious question, I'm not taking the piss.

Nope. It dates back to the mid 90's when I 1st heard the now late Pablo Escobar reffered to as being "the kingpin" of the Cali cartell, I liked the phraseollogy and have used it since.

amputeeporn

I've been d y i n g to hear this since they launched deadairspace - I'd heard it was finished or near to it, so was expecting a 6 month wait till release. I've been internetless for a month until today, so this is a wonderful surprise.

Certainly won't be listening to the live bootlegs, though appreciate the effort - I want this one fresh. How great that an album release feels like an event. Everyone will hear it for the first time at the same time. ARG, this shits on Christmas.

actwithoutwords

The other great thing about this is that we haven't heard any of the final version. There's no single that will be played out by the time the album arrives. Plus I haven't even heard one description of the album yet. The first listen will be completely unmediated or affected by other people's pre-published judgements. All very exciting.
I have been starving myself of the bootlegs since the announcements, but it's probably not long enough to properly clean my palate. Plus I have been singing the songs to myself constantly in the meantime.

Further details by the way: 160 kbps download, which is slightly disappointing, but at least it's not 128. Unconfirmed reports that download codes will be distributed in the order that they were ordered, thus staggering the demand somewhat. Also, apparently an external site/s is/are hosting the download, multiple servers. It's not likely to go without a hitch, but fingers crossed. I would say 60/40 that I will get the download officially without having to get it from yousendit first. It's likely to be madness though, all the Radiohead fansites are going to crash as well.

Still, possibly tomorrow night. Tomorrow night. I feel like I'm 16 again, if I haven't said that already.

Great, so it's like getting an average leak for free. I'd rather just it be released normally.

Why? If it was released normally, it would ineveitably be leaked first so we'd be in the same position as we are now except everyone would be acting illegally.

Exactly. So the entire thing is pointless. Ooh a substandard copy for free! hold me back.

Yeah, fuck them for making an album and distributing it in a way that won't murder their servers yet will still sound acceptable to most people.  They OWE IT TO US AS FANS.

If it was a movie being released without any trailers, advance screenings or review copies sent out, I doubt you'd be quite as excited.

However, this is Radiohead we're talking about, so it's guaranteed to be better than all the other shite out there. Only 22½ hours to go!

If it was by David Lynch or someone though, that would be equivalently exciting.

How is 160kbps 'substandard', anyway?  At what point on the scale does a track's bitrate palpably worsen the sound?

buntyman

Has anyone here received any conformation e-mail or anything since pre-ordering? I've been charged for my diskbox but haven't heard a peep from them. There doesn't appear to be a way of logging in to see the staus of my order on their site either. I wish i'd printed off my payment conformation page now.

No sign of the download code emails yet.

According to NME it will be available at 10 tomorrow. Probably worth taking with a pinch of salt given that Radiohead hate the NME. Though it is certainly plausible.

XFM are broadcasting the album in full at 12 tomorrow.

Apparently below 192 kbps is where loss of quality begins to be noticeable. It all depends on equipment and what age you are etc though.
