Demonoid is back! Not back to full strength but nevertheless great news for all thieves.

Holy crap, that's fantastic news!

The timing could have been a bit better ... I lose all access to torrents, tomorrow, due to the fascist university network protecting it's "precious bandwidth" by banning all torrents and p2p.

Luckily, Rapidlinks and Oliv3r and all the rest serve my US televisual needs for the time being.

[edit] Just seen the Audiobook section for the first time ... there's an amazing range of stuff to check out there. I need more time, damnit!

And I've still got my old ratio. Happy happy joy joy.

W00T (I think I may be forgiven usage of such terminology under the circumstances).

So whats the story are they on a new server?

-edit-
Just read this on Wikipedia

"In January 2008, The Pirate Bay, where some Demonoid users have moved,[26][27] offered two Swedish servers to the Demonoid team."

Geraint

do they still open registrations at a certain point in the week? if not, has anyone got an invite handy? cheers

This really is great news, I always preferred Demonoid to the other sites.

Cheers Ruffian, i'd never have bothered to check back.....now if only someone would ressurect Stage6, I still can't find a worthy replacement !

Santa's Boyfriend

Holy fuck!!  That's fantastic news!  I had given up hope of it returning, and was having to make do with the rather shit design of Mininova, where I could never find anything obscure and interesting - only big cinema releases, which to be honest I couldn't really give a fuck about.

You're talking about retro porn aren't you SB?

Baxter

^^that's more mook's 'thing' than SB surely?

Santa's Boyfriend

More like "The Thief and the Cobbler - Recobbled Cut", which I'd recommend to anyone and everyone.  I've not seen it anywhere else, and it's a fucking brilliant insight into what could have been one of the best animated films ever made.

EDIT: Pirate Bay is quite good for your porn needs anyway.

Wouldn't get too excited the servers are based in the U.S not a great idea for this type of site.

Santa's Boyfriend

It was shut down by Canadian authorities before, interesting to see what happens next...

Any invites about?

If asking is against this site's rules, apologies and please delete.

Ahhh thanks for mentioning this, I would have forgotten about it otherwise! There are so many random little things which I wanted, couldnt find anywhere else and thought "I bet Demonoid would have this...". And my lovely ratio of 4.3 is intact.

Cool, I thought if they didn't return in the first two weeks, that would be it. I still didn't delete my bookmark though.

I always liked Demonoid because it felt more like a community. Ratio-based sharing sites are great. They encourage people to dig deep into their collections to get their ratios up, and some great stuff turns up as a result.

What's the deal with registering? I found a couple of torrents that I wanted on there and it let me download them (although they both only had one seeder, so they'll probably never finish).

Wow that's a coincidence, my ratio is 0.43!  Must try harder this time around.

Downloading 'Dead Man's Shoes' right now, and I've never registered. Peculiar.

Marv Orange

A lot of the torrents are public which anyone can use and usually have more than 1 tracker and then there are some that are only available to registered members.

I'm telling yer, The Thief and the Cobbler.  You don't have to feel bad about it either because there's no other way to see it, it's a fan edit and will never be commercially released.

On the stealing front there's good news for Virgin customers as they've unveiled a new Usenet server, crucially hosted by one of the big server providers and thus chock full of binary groups with not bad retention times. news.virginmedia.com

Christ how dumb of them. Register there at your peril! Is it a sting operation?

The news I can gather is the tracker is based in the Ukraine, but Deimos is no longer at the helm. Perhaps there is something to be concerned about.

What's the source of that info? I can find no confirmation of this in any of the news items I've find... they don't actually mention where the site is at all.

Quotefamous BitTorrent tracker Demonoid is back online after months of downtime. The former administrator of the site, Deimos, had to shutdown the project in Canada. There were numerous attempts in relaunching Demonoid under different hostings all over the world, but it always failed after few days. It's just a few moments since a new administrator took over the site after Deimos stepped down from his function due to personal reasons and relaunched it.

A quick look into WHOIS discovers that Demonoid is now hosted by American server hosting company Softlayer - I could probably imagine a better country for hosting a torrent website or tracker because of legal climax regarding peer to peer websites in the USA, but it seems to work fine now. And as we know the importance of reliable trackers in the BitTorrent community, I'd like to wish Demonoid team on behalf of our whole staff a very long uptime and a good luck in eventual legal battles.
