I wonder which episode the caddies sketch was intended for?

Moral Decline according to the youtube info bit..

you're right though, the caddy thing raised a chuckle from me at the 'do you want tee' and that was about it.. the Sullivan interview was much funnier.

mugwump ji sum

Thanks Darles chickens. Yes, the Sullivan clip was excellent. I found myself momentarily back in the mindframe where I was captivated by Chris Morris.

Artemis

It's Sullivan looking on to the doll thing, giving a little shake of his head and saying "just take away the rubber hose" followed by Morris's masterful mood-altering reaction, as if Sullivan's just inadvertently made a very profound point. Genius.

Ohh... seems to be a problem with the embedding.

Fantastic.

I WANT A NEW SERIES OF BRASS EYE!!  Goddamn you Morris, JFDI.

The tee sandwich bit is in Decline.

Those are wonderful, I can't imagine why they didn't use that interview, its amongst the best of them. Only needed his little right/wrong turntable to be perfect.

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

Morris working the phrase "lapping the custard from their ball-sacs" into the conversation is another highlight.

While I appreciate that Morris has no desire to repeat himself - and also that his relative fame makes it difficult for him to go undercover like this - I wish he would do something similar again. As Pinball mentioned in the science thread in GB, couldn't he go to America and have absurd conversations with their plentiful idiots?

After that, maybe he could angrily spoof bug-men on Jupiter.

Its a bit easy laughing at Americans though isn't it. Ali G did it already anyway.

Its not like there isn't plenty here still to spoof. Get the old team back on TDT with perhaps a few new faces in the cast (Capaldi please) and it could be as brilliant as ever. Endless rewatching hasn't rendered it remotely stale after all.

Not really. Depends which Americans he would theoretically be laughing at. I just mentioned it because these days it might be difficult for Morris to turn up for a spoof interview without someone recognising him, regardless of whatever form of disguise he chose to wear.

Pinball

Morris is one of the few people who could s*** over the likes of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert in a news satire show. I truly wish he would do so because REAL satire is something we have precious little of in these totalitarian times. I know it would be revisiting past glories, but so what? He's good at it. And I really would prefer more of that vs. more Nathan Barley type stuff...

Ambient Sheep

I'd just like to add my thanks for these.

I was also going to mention the marked similarity between the caddy and vicar sketches (even down to the throwing things onto the floor and being made to pick them up - clearly happened a lot at Stonyhurst/whichever-public-school-the-author-of-those-sketches-went-to), but JCBillington easily beat me to it.  :-)

Notlob

Just wanted to add my appreciation to the chorus of thanks; and I think Jemble Fred is right, I think Morris could pull off doing more satire without becoming tediously repetitive.

Dragon

It's amazing how he can turn such a simple object into something so offensive. How the hell did he keep a straight face? Is he a robot?

chocky909

Why are people talking about that second sketch like they've never seen it before? Isn't it just an extended edit? I've definately seen parts of it before although I couldn't be sure where.

That first clip is great though. Thanks to all involved.

Great stuff. Also, anyone see this linked clip? 'Afshin Rattansi does a Chris Morris Day Today'

The bit where they talk about the tea sandwich was used in Moral Decline, yes.

Isn't it nice to get excited about Morris stuff again, albeit 12 year old material?  I couldn't quite believe it when I came across these clips, though at first I was half expecting them to be amateurish 'wacky' redubs of old sketches.

I think the Sullivan interview is really amongst the best I've seen in Brass Eye, certainly much better than the similar interview he did in the BES about what makes a work of art obscene (though I don't really like the Austin Tasseltine character much which probably doesn't help).  For me, Sullivan's bewilderment makes it all the funnier, and the "take away the hose" line followed by Morris's faux-deep reply is sublime.

The Golf Caddy sketch was added less than 24 hours ago, so it might be worth keeping an eye on youmatico in case he adds more stuff in the future, particularly given this tantalising passage from his profile:
QuoteAvailable from time to time will be rare and unseen clips, out takes and selections from the more obscure television Michael has directed over the last twenty years.

Here is an interesting Brass Eye thread from the past, which kinda raises more questions than it answers, in particular:

Quote from: TJAnyway, yes, there is tons of unused footage that is known to have been shot, and details about it leaked out all over the place. Personally, I still want to know who he's shouting at in the opening titles.
Quote from: TJ(and also 'Gun Priests' doesn't really fit in with the concept of 'Crime' terribly well, which suggests that it might have originated from a religiously-themed show, and there's at least one religion-related unused sketch that we know about)

I wonder if anyone here these days knows what these sketches are, or even better, if they might turn up on YouTube one day, courtesy of youmatico!

Beck

I've PM'd this charming man youmatico asking just that - hopefully I won't come off as a never-satisifed arsey Youtubian demanding MORE.

I respect Morris' motivations in not releasing this stuff, presumably it's a Kubrickian 'protection of artistic vision' sort of thing, but it's incredibly frustrating considering how brilliant these vids are, and how there's probably tons more of the stuff.

And, sad to admit, these off-cuts are still effortlessly better than anything he's officially released since.

Ah, right. Haven't watched Brass Eye in donkey's. Not surprised that was the only part used.

Marty McFly

I can remember reading about the Brass Eye pilot episode (wasn't it called Torque TV?) on the long-gone old SOTCAA site. Google, plus the god-awful design of the new SOTCAA, is being mean and I can't find any reference to it but maybe it'll get yootoobed now..

Oh, has nobody upped it yet? Give me a minute then...well, will YooToob automatically cut a video up into under ten-minute segments, or will I have to do that first and what's a good program for that sort of thing?

Edit: \/ - mmm, good point JD, hang on...

Identity Crisis Ahoy!

What about uploading it to Google video?

vrailaine

that caddy one is in brass eye though.

david sullivan's bit is brilliant.

Moribunderast

Those are a real good treat. The first, as has been said, is absolutely fantastic. The image at the end with the penis dripping red is fantastic. I also, for some reason, cracked up at the term "Caddy Running".

Brass Eye pilot, aye? I've never actually heard of that until this thread. Can anyone point me in the direction where it may be found, if such a direction is on our compass?

I've got about twenty megs left to up, Moribunderast, will edit in a Google Vid link reasonably soon.

It's brilliant, incidentally. Totally essential viewing.

Edit: Seems like it'll take ages, actually. Here's some outtakes unearthed by CaB years ago but not previously on YouTube:

amputeeporn

Oh, Morris was always wonderful in that outrage segment - but I'd never seen it unedited. This thread's really reminding me of the first few times I saw the bugger. Brilliant stuff.

boxofslice

I've not seen those before, thanks. Makes you realise how bad other so-called satirical comedy has been in the last 11 or so years.

Excellent, excellent, thanks a million Dickins, Beck and Paaaaul, and also thanks for pointing out that clip Howj, the last line is priceless!
