CD Bargains Thread

ThickAndCreamy

Just thought I'd make a thread so people can share any good cheap bargains on the internet they find.

I'll start with these;

Public Enemy - Takes A Nation.... £3 http://playcom.at/cookdandbombd?DURL=http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/152841/-/Product.html

Eric B And Rakim - Paid In Full £3
http://playcom.at/cookdandbombd?DURL=http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/615370/-/Product.html

Cypress Hill - Black Sunday £3
http://playcom.at/cookdandbombd?DURL=http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/150704/-/Product.html

Weezer - Pinkerton £3
http://playcom.at/cookdandbombd?DURL=http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/148966/-/Product.html

IF anyone else can find any good CD's for £6 or under post them here! Not only because I'm low on money and CD's, but for the sake of everyone.

alan nagsworth

Amazon 'Used & New' sellers do shitloads of CDs for less than or roughly equal to £6. Off the top of my head, CaimanUSA and ImportCDs-UK have brilliant prices considering they distribute strictly 'New' items. I managed to get three Venetian Snares CDs plus postage from USA for £20 the other week. £1.24 postage per CD! Shocking. I get all my CDs from those 'Used & New' sellers as they're always the best prices I can find. Plus once you buy a couple, you go back for more and see the same sellers stocking yet more awesome music, so it's good to buy from sellers you can always trust.

Don_Preston

I used to use Caiman for the cost convenience, but then they started becoming very unreliable - I mean a month after purchase amd the item still hadn't been shipped. Now I tend to avoid them. ImportCDs I also used to use for pretty much every order, but even they seem to be taking longer with deliveries.

Just checking Amazon Bargains and they've got the double pack "At Folsom Prison / At San Quentin (Remastered / Expanded) (2CD) by Johnny Cash" for under £5! I remember paying £6 for it at Fopp and thinking that was a bargain!

alan nagsworth

Yeah my ImportCDs stuff took about 2 weeks but from USA that's really not that bad, is it? Besides I'm not complaining with such cheap P&P.

I've only made one purchase from Caiman and it came "packaged" in a CD case-hugging skinny cardboard box, and when I opened it the case was badly cracked. You know that horrible feeling when you open a CD case and shards of plastic from the centre ring or the booklet holding tabs fall out? Yeah, that happened. The wankers.

Richard and Linda Thompson's I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight= £3 on play. http://playcom.at/cookdandbombd?DURL=http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/163845/I-Want-To-See-The-Bright-Lights-Tonight/Product.html

I don't care much for a lot of Richard Thompson stuff (mainly due to my dislike of his voice), but I own 'I Want To See...' and have to say at £3, it should be in everyone's album collection.

Lee Van Cleef

Man, you can get New Model Army in that play sale.  If I didn't already have all their albums I'd be buying in bulk.

I will, however, be buying some Cohen and Walker CDs.

klaatu!

Fairport Convention's Unhalfbricking and Full House are there for £3 each too.

Pornography for bleak harrowing minimalism when the band where at their personal low but creative high. Disintergration is a load of overblown 80s guff.

Go for 17 Seconds if you've yet to get that.

Thank you, TPG.

I'd get disintegration, though really both complement each other(sort of)

It's nice to know that a product of extreme procrastination can be of use to others.

Am I to understand that Pornography is too inassessable while Disintergation is too assessable and 17 Seconds is just right?

thugler

While pornography is good, it can be a bit too much of a depressing goth mopefest at times. I prefer disintegration.

Ignore this man, he's clearly delusional*: Pornography's a load of underwritten sludge, while Disintergration is the mix of their poppier and their more experimental leanings and their only truly consistent album.

*Okay, bit harsh I know.  But come on, Disintergration's way better!

Don_Preston

Fucking hell, gang!

On Amazon right now

Caravan's selt titled and In the Land of Grey and Pink are both £2.98 each!

PaulTMA

I made the unwise decision to begin my Cure collection with Wild Mood Swings and Wish which put me off investigating further for the best part of a decade until I got Pornography which I now see as undeniably the greatest thing they ever did.  I'd rate it higher than anything Joy Division did.

I never liked 'Wild Mood Swings', despite really trying.  There's a couple of really good tracks on 'Wish', mind.

scarecrow

I really like Bloodflowers, and that's £3 on play too

PaulTMA

If you still have a Fopp around, they might have some of the following + other titles for £3 (spotted at the two shops in Glasgow):

Sonic Youth - Goo, Dirty, Experimental Jet Set etc.
The Cure - Pornography, Wild Mood Swings, Disintegration, Show, Paris
Mark Hollis - Mark Hollis
Primal Scream - Screamadelica/Give Out But Don't Give Up (double set)
Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska
Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - The Letting Go, Ask Forgiveness
Brian Eno - The Drop
Steely Dan remasters
Manics - Send Away The Tigers

Blah DVD are knocking out loads of the Universal Deluxe Editions for £8.95. Pretty decent price. I've ordered from them before and they've been fine.

Cor.  That's a good chunk of 'em for £8.99!  I might see if I can scrape the cash together and treat myself to the Costello 'This Years Model'.

The Plunger

Ok peeps, as mentioned earlier Play are knocking out most of the Scott Walker albums for 3 quid each. I'm going to make a tentative first (or two) Scott Walker purchase. Should I just start at the beginning and work forwards ? I've read that 'Tilt' can be hard work, so I'm tempted just to go for 'Scott 1'. Thoughts appreciated..

buttgammon

Scott 4 is probably the best, though Scott 2 is very good too and worth the money for 'Jackie' alone.

I've never heard Scott 1 (or is it just 'Scott'? I'm not sure) so I can't really say if that's any good or not but Scott 4 is probably the most essential. And yes, Tilt is hard going.

The Plunger

Damnit, you had to pick the one album which isn't in the sale......Cheers though, appreciate the reply.

I've plumped for 1 and 2, 6 quid for the pair so can't argue with that. I've got a feeling I'm going to enjoy his stuff, so ultimately I suppose its best to start at the beginning and work my way through. 'Jackie' eh - is that the one Marc Almond had a cover of a few years back ?

Also, the cover to 1 is beyond cool ! If I were to walk into a record store and see that cover, I'd be tempted to buy the record on that basis alone.
