Well can I? How?

I shot it with the camera sideways didn't I. To get it "portrait" like.

Tch.

LMAO

okies there is a tool for it which is probably your best method. video is not really my game, and i'll have to google to jog my memory.

in the meantime, my only experiance of this is when i'v downloaded a movie and it plays upside down.

to solve this, and i'm not sure its applicable in your case .....

What causes this problem?

Windows platform media players typically use a system known as DirectShow to decode video files. As part of this system special filters can be installed, in order to handle additional video formats or add effects during decoding, for example. Unfortunately some filters can have undesired effects, such as inverting the video or commandeering DivX decoding from the genuine DivX decoder.

Upside down or mirrored video is commonly caused by these filters:

       * Bicubic resize filter
         Filename: bicubic_resizer.ax
Installed as part of many codec packs, this filter is perhaps most responsible for inverted video.
       * G400 filter
         Filename: divxg400.ax
Also installed as part of many codec packs, this filter can also invert the video.
       * XviD filter
         Filename: xvid.ax
Again, installed as part of many codec packs, the XviD filter can decode DivX video as inverted.

How can I correct this problem?

To correct this problem, you can either uninstall these codecs using the setup program of the codec packs you have installed (if they allow this), or you can manually unregister the offending filters.

To determine which filters are affecting your system, please see this article.

To manually unregister the filters perform these steps:

      1. Choose Run from the Start menu and enter:

             command

         then click OK
      2. In the command window that opens enter:

             cd \windows\system32

         and press enter.
      3. For each file you wish to unregister enter:

             regsvr32 /u

For example, to unregister the Bicubic Resize filter enter:

             regsvr32 /u bicubic_resizer.ax

that 10 second trick works for me, and i'v never had a problem since, but since your talking 90 degrees not 180, gimme a sec to go consult.

mr rou-rou

turn your monitor on its side silly,

I suspect Adobe Premier will be able to do this, perhaps download their trial version http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/newfeatures.html

okies - i could have sworn i saw a toool called MPEG-rotate on a torrent site within the past week.

i only noticed it as i was thinking at the time that my above 10 sec trick was better, now i realise that rotating it 90 degrees is actually a usefull function.

bugger is, my local haunts aren't giving up the goods so far, in regards to torrents.

I'm not ungrateful.

Fucking Adobe registration.

I would also like to be able to rotate video files so I can watch porn while hanging like a bat.

I'm reminded of that bit in A Question Of Sport every week where they all stood up and craned their necks to see who it was pictured upside down behind one of the numbers. And everybody laughed. Ha ha ha.

It's bad news for The Human League though.  Unless his butcher's shop is fortuitously situated on a street corner.

You want to sort out the white bits around that anvil, it's dead messy.

Can anyone, and I'm looking at Purple Tentacle here, tell me how to either shrink a DivX AVI vertically, or stretch it horizontally, in Premiere Pro (the latest one)?

I've downloaded Shaun Of The Dead, from Suprnova, but it's all stretched vertically. I want to transfer it to DVD, but it'd only fill about the middle quarter of the screen if I did, and it'd look shite.

Many thanks, and blowjobs from Abbie to the quickest helper.

Put your harddrive in a vice and squash it so it's the right size.

That was no help. Your claim is null and void.

Presumably Frinky will be filming it, and once PT's recovered he can edit it, yah?

I can drive vision mixers, if that helps.

surely you're not thinking of re-enconding the whole movie to orrect the aspet ratio????

unless you have a top-end machine (say within the last six months) your looking at at least of few hours to let it re-encode it.

try these various players:

videolan.org
bsplayer
DivX playa

make sure you grab an xVid codec aswell.

all these players will allow to to 'correct' the aspect ration or simply to frag the window to the size and shape you want.

they are all widely available - i'd send them to you but i'm off out.
i'll look in again this evening 7ish. PM if you cant find them or need a hand.

Timmay

I am looking to re-encode the whole thing, yeah. I've done my own DVD production before - usually use Vegas Video - so I know what's involved. Only reason I pose the question though, is because Vegas doesn't like this particular DivX AVI. I get an error when it's building the peaks - a codec error. Premiere seems quite happy with it though, it's just that I don't know how to squeeze/stretch the image in it.

MojoJojo

If you use VirtualDub to re-encode (which is a bit tricky until you have done your first few encodes), it has a filters menu  that lets let you do all sorts of rotates, rescales and bad 80s video effects. I believe it even has a special filter to try and remove annoying station logos in the corner, although I may be getting confused with something else.
