I actually like this Alicia Keys tune, some of the instrumentation is a bit off and I'm not down with all that diva vocal shite but man she hits the right notes in this song! But I can't help thinking how awesome this would be if it was covered in reggae style by a proper Jamaican roots reggae group. Just think about it, mid-beat guitar strums, easy skankin' drums, some stoned preacher easing out the lovely melodies in his own modest style. It would work, and every time I hear this song I think of how great it would be.

So yeah, serious and non-serious submissions welcome (can we try not to have obvious ones though? Like "Napalm Death should do a 2-second version of James Blunt lol" ... sod off!) - There are lots of songs with great tunes that otherwise fail to push your buttons and you think "this needs covering!"

So let's be havin' 'em.

Neville Chamberlain

I've often wondered what Wonderwall would sound like if sung in a kind of swinging, lounge music vibe...!

I'd love to hear My Bloody Valentine cover 'Thoughts Of Mary Jane' by Nick Drake with Bilinda on vocals in 'Come In Alone' style:

Neville - you are Mike Flowers and I claim my £5 and blow-up Richard Littlejohn (explosives not included).

Damn it, it is better than Oasis!

Mike Flowers is the best character that Steve Coogan never invented.

I wouldn't mind hearing Embrace have a go at 'The No. 1 Song In Heaven' or 'Party Fears Two'.

Now I think about it, all covers should be done in a different style. I don't see the point unless you plan to bring something new to the song.

There are quite a few bands out there who cover the songs of one band in different styles of music.  Some of the ones I've found on Wikipedia:

2 Live Jews
Beatallica (my personal favourites at doing this sort of thing, Metallica songs in a Beatles style)
Hayseed Dixie

Oh, and here's Rodeohead, a medley of Radiohead songs performed in a Country & Western style:

Oh yes.

In a similar vein to Mike Flowers - Richard Cheese:

Pisses over the original.  But then I hate Guns 'n' Roses.

Yes! Lots of songs can be made good just by switching the 4/4 time signature to 3/4, the uptempo jazz feel can seriously alter a song for the better. In my head, anyway. One such example would be mclusky - That Man Will Not Hang. Sadly not available on YouTube but yeah if you know ths song, I hope you'll agree that the above-mentioned Richard Cheese would do this song much justice.

I actually really like Richard Cheese and not just because he makes me laugh. He has an excellent voice and his way of covering songs is just awesome, there's all sorts of jazz and swing styles in his covers, he's a talented fellow and no mistake. Oh and he also makes me laugh a lot. His cover of Gin & Juice is fucking superb.

Lord Mandrake

I'd like to hear an Ethiopique re-imagening of "Feed the world".
