Re: Mass Effect

Yeah I went for the blue alien, she's a real pushover. This time I'm chatting up Kaidan. Who are the choices if you play as a guy? Is Wrex up for it? lol

Ah ok I was slower. Just delete this one

I prefer the title of this one.

So do I.

Left 4 Dead is great fun, Team Fortress 2 is like going back in time 10 years and frankly I think it's a bit shit as a result. Wasted €9.99 on that.

Well fuck y'all! Fuck y'all, I don't need you!

I was looking over Gamespot's review of Killzone 2, it got a 9.0 and was generally posivitive, but there is something weird about the way it is written. Normally, on a 9.0 and above rating you can see the passion the reviewer has for the game through the writing alone, but this seemes to me to be a little stale and forced.

Am I imagining this?

I prefer simple titles, in the sidebar on the mainpage you know what you're clicking on when it's a short descriptive title.

Anyhow, played a bit of DoW2, is fun!

I recieved my copy of Fallout 3 today and have spent most of the day playing it. My early impressions weren't that great. The bit in the vault was all a bit dull and once I got outside I found the glut of quests a bit bewildering and had the constant feeling that I was doing everything wrong (not least because I accidentally got the sheriff guy killed, then killed the bloke that did it).

After a few hours though I'd settled on doing the radio transmitter mission which gave it a bit of structure and helped me get the feel of things a lot better. The scope of it all is still pretty mind blowing, though. I can never shake the feeling that, while I'm off doing one thing, I might be missing out on god knows how many others. I can't wait for my second playthrough, in which I'll be a bastard.

All in all, bloody good stuff. It's just a shame about the frequent crashing.

Doesn't seem unusual to me, it's pretty positive except for the criticisms of the storyline. I wouldn't have thought it was odd without you saying so, reads like a lot of other high-scoring reviews I've seen.

Hooray, I managed to get Dawn of War 2 to run properly. All it needed was the AMD dual-core optimiser, a sound-related registry hack and to be run in Windowed mode. Isn't PC gaming great?

Now to try to find out if the game is actually any good.

Tried the Empire: Total War demo last night. It looked like shit, and ran like a dog, and too minutes on every loading screen, but it seemed sufficiently "Total-War-y". More importantly, the ship combat was fucking awesome.

Unreal Tournament 3 is free all weekend on Steam.

I've not played TF2 for the Longest Time.  I need to have a go now that there's been a Scout update.  Left4Dead as well; I'd quite like to eventually get a game with you whores.  I got propositioned last week but was a bit busy tidying my room in a hardcore style so didn't manage it.  Next week, though!

Also I've been having a LOT of fun pimp-slapping people into the air in Saints Row 2.  As dodgy as some bits of the game are (graphics/running wise) it's a fuck of a lot of fun, and I've barely even played it yet.

Good luck downloading it though, I left it overnight with all my bandwidth available (500kb/s) and managed to scrape 11%. They are getting hammered.

Last night on Fallout 3, I came across a gang of supermutant slavers holed up an a church. The odds of defeating them in a head on fight were obviously against me so I crept up to the door, laid about ten mines then chucked a few handgrenades through a window to flush them out, before running to a safe distance and picking them off with my rifle as they crawled around looking for their kneecaps.

It isn't perfect, but it is the first sandbox game I've played that really lives up to the concept, which is something I've been waiting for since I first started playing games. In another game that would have been a big set peice, but here it was just a random encounter that could have easily not happened.

Whatever you do, DO NOT follow the story missions until you are thoroughly bored of the world, which should take you almost forever.

Aye, despite trying to avoid spoilers, I have read that it just ends when you catch up with Qui Gon Schindler. Things felt like they were rushing forward a bit fast after I did the radio fixing mission, so I decided to go back to Megaton and just generally have a wander.

I started Far Cry 2 finally the other day, having sufficiently recovered from Fallout, and it's fucking amazing.

I unlocked all the safe houses in one big lump because I decided I needed to impose some kind of structure on myself in case I went mad with possibility.

It really lives up to the hype about player actioned narrative. Even more than GTA or Oblivion the game is almost solely focussed on delivering a world that allows limitless potential.

My favourite moment is approaching a safe house, finding a rock about half a kilometre away and killing one of the militia guarding it with a headshot then running down into the tree line and waiting for the rest of them to come looking for me. The Jeep duly arrives and they pile out "Fan out and find him!", they start looking for me. Meanwhile I throw a grenade underneath their Jeep and watch it fly into the air and they start to panic. One fires wildly into the trees but misses me. I run through the cover towards the house and wait for them to come back. They do and I throw a molotov behind them catching the grass and trees on fire. The wind is with me so the fire spreads wide and cuts of the retreat. They run to the house and smack into the IEDs I had set up in the doorway. I detonate as they arrive and move in to claim my new home.

It's like the 24 movie basically. You get to be Jack Bauer in Sangala fucking dudes up and I heartliy approve of this.

EMPIRE TOTAL WAR EMPIRE TOTAL WAR WHY CAN'T I AFFORD THIS I DON'T WANT TO SELL FALLOUT 3

Dude. Relax. It's a Creative Assembly game, you need to wait a good month or so for the patch that makes the game playable on 75% of computers. By which time the game'll be down to £30 or so.

Table Top Joe

There are quite a few bugs at the moment I hear although, because the game is so resource intensive, people are finding it hard to distinguish between what is actually a problem with the game and what is just a person's PC not coping with playing it. I also hear that it is having some problems with certain Quads and Dual cores as well.
I meet the minimum requirements for the game and it doesn't play that well (which is to be expected really). The graphics look terrible when you have to run them on low with horses floating across the battlefield and such.  So yeah I would recommend waiting for a patch too.

One boring novice question- are the repackaged budget titles of previously top-billing games later patched versions of games? In other words, are they to be trusted more than the originals? To be honest, I've had far more joy from buying those than buying brand new PC titles.

I think it depends on what budget label they are on but cetainly a few that i've bought have been pre patched or had the patch included on the disc, Deus ex and Operation flashpoint are two that spring to mind.

I Am The Walrus

Just started playing "Douglas Adam's Starship Titanic" again. and was wondering what people's views on this classic game are.

Personally I really like, it's colourful, funny, accessible to anyone, you don't have to blast the head off a zombified one eyed bank manager with a gun the size of a Ford Escort, and more importantly fun. That's all you need in a good game. That said, other games I've played lately have been:

Portal
Metal Gear Solid 3
The X Files: Resist or Serve
Guitar Hero 2 and 3
CSI

All of which I have found fun and entertaining for diffrerent reasons.

Steam has The World Of Goo a 92% Metacritic rated and wonderful puzzle game for £4.24 for this weekend. For the money, it seems almost hard not to buy it.

In other Steam related news, Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box is soon coming to Steam. Considering I have probably played about 150 hours plus altogether on PS2 and PSP Burnout games I should buy it.

I love Steam.
