No, no, but I think for this to be properly representational most of the top posters need to contribute. Which hasn't happened so far.

I have considered using the search feature to find threads where they have stated what their favourite albums are.

Let's list them. The obvious one is the eponymous debut by The Stone Roses. I'm particularly interested in albums like that where the band NEVER again managed to live up to the standards they set for themselves. De La Soul had a similar problem,,,3 Feet High And Rising is easily one of the greatest debuts ever, but it took them over 10 years to get back on form.

Couple more cracking debuts to kick the thread off, The Breeders (best band ever) with Pod, and Belly with Star. Bellys another of those groups where a stunning debut seems to have become an albatross around their collective neck. King wasn't anywhere as sucessful, critically or comercially, and they split soon afterwards.

Carrying on on a Kim Deal tip, Pacer by The Amps is another exceptional debut album. The Amps were a side-project so Kim could keep releasing songs while waiting on the rest of The Breeders to sort themselves out. Originally planned as a solo act, which would have Kim playing all the instruments, she then decided to form a new band instead. They did one lovely album, which is like a rawer lo-fi version of The Breeders sound, and then split.

I wouldn't bother about that, there's a few on the list that are greatest hits/selection types. Take the Beta Band – Three Ep's, that's a collection of their first three E.P's on one album.
I'd go back and edit your original post though and insert the numbers before the albums, it makes it easier to copy and paste an update list of what has been posted so far.

'Substance' is mostly previously unreleased remixes isn't it? The Buzzcocks' 'Singles Going Steady' has about 3 or 4 album tracks on there.

Substance is a double-disc set collecting New Order's singles, including several songs that were never available on the group's albums, at least in these versions. While there are a couple of re-recordings of earlier singles, most of Substance consists of 12" single mixes designed for danceclub play. Arguably, these 12" mixes represent New Order's most groundbreaking and successful work, since they expanded the notion of what a rock & roll band, particularly an indie rock band, could do.
