In the absence of Photoshop, I recommend GIMP: http://www.gimp.org/

GIMP is definitely worth using.  I moved over to it for work, and there are certain aspects that are much, much better than Photoshop - or at least the last version of Photoshop that I used.

It's a shame you're so very wrong&deludedTM Cerys.

Koant

GIMP is perfectly adequate for monging purposes.

Zero Gravitas

It's a case of getting used to it I suppose, it is, at least, a better altrernative than paint.NET.

Koant

Probably. Speaking of online tools, Aviary looks rather good actually: http://aviary.com/tools/image-editor

Some may be interested in GIMPshop if they're used to Photoshop's way of doing things. Basically it's a mod for GIMP...

QuoteIt shares all GIMP's advantages, including the long feature list and customisability, while addressing some common criticisms regarding the program's interface: GIMPshop modifies the menu structure to closely match Photoshop's, adjusts the program's terminology to match Adobe's, and, in the Windows  version, uses a plugin called 'Deweirdifier' to combine the application's numerous windows in a similar manner to the MDI system used by most Windows graphics packages. While GIMPshop does not support Photoshop plugins, all GIMP's own plugins, filters, brushes, etc. remain available.

Haven't tried this, but I've seen it mentioned favourably in various places. Available in Linux, Mac and Windows flavours:

A few short sweet hours to hand your entries in, guys.

EDIT: I'd like to pretend that was a joke, but the truth is, I'm a moron.

Thanks for that, Dusty.  I've adapted to GIMP okay, but our other artist is having issues with it.  I'll prod her in the direction of that url.

Dusty Gozongas

Hope it's okay. Let me know if it's totally useless to save the possibility of embarrassing myself in future.

Cerys

Well, it's all installed ready for her - I'll let you know if she throws the machine out of the window in a fit of rage :)
