Get it while you can...ludicrous guitar fusion wankery

Shawn Lane (guitar and scat singing); Jonas Hellborg (bass); Jeff Sipe (drums) - "Time is the Enemy" (Live at Ziggy's) http://home.comcast.net/~kabuki/Ziggys.mp3

Here thar be some shit-hot fret burning for those who might like that kind of the thing. Around the 2.40 mark there are some licks that defy belief. And to pre-empt the "it's just souless wanking innit...one note played expressively is better than a million etc etc etc", Shawn Lane was one of the most soulful, slow guitar players ever (as his rare solo albums testify; the style in the clip represents his style in the mid 90s in improvised settings...later he moved on to play pure South Indian Carnatic classical music). Lane is an underground cult hero and was an utter genius and connoisseur. He had an appreciation and knowledge of music, art, cinema, politics, science etc that was unprecedented. A genuine, bona-fide once-in-a-few-hundred-years genius.

So yeah, if you like fusion check him out. If you hate shred don't write him off. He was more than a mere shredder (in fact the fact that he could play faster than any human being alive was his least interesting and notable attribute IMHO).

Enjoy! (Hopefully the file will stay up for a while before it becomes unavailable)
