This Warp Films 'Documentary' was on Channel 4 last night. It took me a while to work out what it actually was (having never seen it before).

It essentially follows a loser who decides to interview all his old girlfriends to find out what's wrong with him- one of the more pressing problems being erectile dysfunction. As you'd expect, it's quite a goldmine of an area to go down, and I thought overall it was a funny film. Alhough the central character is almost pathologically inept to the point where you'd suspect he had asperger's, he's generally a nice guy, so despite all his failings you can easily see why he's had all these relationships.

There are some awfully clichéd moments
Spoiler alert
he decides to get fit and that cuts to him trying to run on a treadmill on the highest setting AHAHAHAHA

and
Spoiler alert
taking too many viagra pills because they didn't work straight away, then being stuck with an erection for hours

, though in fairness that does set up arguably the funniest scene in the film. Oh and there's an awful awful awful moment where he does a

conceited and contrived Cringe Moment by singing a song about wanting to fuck everyone in front of a sexual therapist.

The dramatic moments of the film- particularly his reunion with his long-term ex is genuinely touching, you can really feel all the history- the bitterness, the regret and the underlying love for one another- are really good too.

Anyone seen this/now want to see it?

I'd completely forgotten about this, I remember seeing a preview at a Warp Film show that Zan Lyons played at - so I've not seen it but thanks for the reminder!

Pie Pie Eater

I saw it at the Edinburgh Film Festival a few years back, and really enjoyed it.

I was annoyed for him that he fucked up his opportunity to

have a lot of dirty sex with that Glaswegian woman

though.

Yes! I caught this when I switched on Film 4 one night in the middle of a bout of insomnia, and thought it was excellent. It's an interesting blend of set-ups and genuine scenes, although I think I might have assumed more of it was set up than actually was, because I read he was sued by several of the ex's appearing in the film after it was released. And you're correct, the scene with his long-term ex is genuinely heart-wrenching. If you have a low tolerance of pretentious arty types then you're not going to get very far with it (and where exactly was the money coming from for his London flat considering he didn't actually seem to do anything?), but in general I found his dopy schtick charming enough. If not his droopy stick.

To be honest, the scene I assume you describe as the funniest
Spoiler alert
(running up to women and asking them to have sex with him) I thought was uncomfortable and bullying trigger happy type stuff. The bit I laughed at most was the set up with the ex who only agreed to communicate via speech synthesiser.

Re:

Glaswegian... well, quite! I liked the fact he had managed to put her off an entire race.

I gather there's a glitzy Hollywood remake on the cards now. Hmm.

As for Chris Waitts being sympathetic, I rather went off him when replied 'Large penis' to a question about his best features.

I was sat wondering how much of it was faux and came to the conclusion it all must have been, since the Polish journalist business seemed so unrealistic. His mother seemed to be acting and all the background details (Ooh, you bought her a joke ring! You bounder! Forgot about Valentines because you were boogyboarding! Wacky cad!) seemed like poor sitcom fare. But you've now told me it was, for the most part, real and I believe you. The scene with Vicky was indeed heart-inducing [nb]can't be bothered making sense anymore [/nb] but that would be much more impressive if it wasn't actually... true.

Beagle 2

Haha, Kurt Cocker, very droll! Yes, I basically assumed the whole thing was set ups, but at least some of the backstory must be true, and half the fun is wondering if he really might be as much of a ginormous prat as he makes out. The dominatrix yelps look pretty genuine.

Any sign of that yet?

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I don't think it's worth starting a new one merely to say I've only just got around to seeing this, and that despite expecting it to be right up my street (especially after Jim White's review compared Waitt to Woody Allen), I really really couldn't believe how awful it was.  Yours, disappointed.

If this is the thing I think it is, I thought it was fierce shite too, yeah. Think I gave up pretty quickly though so maybe it got better.

Flipping heck, that's a name I haven't heard in a while - probably over a decade since I last heard his Desolate album.
