Two people embrace, camera goes for close-up on one of them, who is looking into the middle-distance in a worried/unhappy/serious manner.

Brundle-Fly

"She's a great kid you've got there."

Any villain that does that limbering head movement to the side with a deadpan expression. Usually accompanied by a click sound.

GoochDogHigh5s

"That's it, you are off the case"

"Thank God the Monster/Alien/Psycho is dead, we won't see that again"

Pretty much any chief of police character then, if this thread is anything to go by.

"If there's one thing I HATE it's hot-shots/hot-heads/wiseguys like you."

In future all chiefs of police will only communicate through the medium of mime. Or origami.

HAYRDRYAH

'Through the medium of dance'

Spoiler alert
Oh, that's comedy

Oh they do this sort of thing all the time on Eastenders (I understand):

easytarget

lipsink

"Nice of you to drop in!"/"Sorry to drop in!" when someone crashes through the ceiling.

An amazing number of uses of "Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore":

My film studies lecturer at Uni was always on about the number of films that quoted Wizard of Oz, particularly the line above and 'Take me back to Kansas'. Referencing moments from famous films in order to convey the same notion/sentiment in another is rife though, and it is pretty lazy.
