Because I watched "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" last night and wanted to go on about it a bit, none of the other threads seemed appropriate so I needed to make my own. Might be interesting to discuss your favourite films based on his stuff, inspired by his stuff or about him / the creation of his stuff.

Anyway, it was one of those films where you could tell from 5 minutes in it was going to be a cracker. Tim Roth and Gary Oldman are just fantastic together, and I was convinced on of Richard Dreyfuss's sidekicks was a very young Michael Sheen until the end when I noticed in the credits they were all Yugoslavian.

Its stage origins are obvious but don't detract in any way - in fact, Stoppard makes interesting use of the devices of stage plays; the two guys ponder their status in things as Hamlet burbles on around them (the way they wrap up Hamlet in a 30 second montage near the end is really clever, I thought). Anyway, I'm not much of a reviewer (in case you couldn't tell) I just really enjoyed it, wanted to recommend it, read other peoples' opinion, etc.

Tonight may be "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead" (a real film, surprisingly) - http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/rosencrantz_and_guildenstern_are_undead/ if I can bring myself to do it (it's not exactly got good reviews). It's clearly one of those films which started out as a funny name - like "Tromeo and Juliet" and worked back from there.
