What scares you?

Lobotomy. Even the word terrifies me to my core. Possibly the worst thing humanity has ever opted to inflict on itself, horrifying. Whoever thought that slicing up what makes us tick was the best way to fix things should be dug up and have their remains incinerated and shot into the sun.

Ugh.

UGH UGH.

Rats

I said before that I'm scared of nearly everything but drowning would be the worst way to go I reckon. Nasty.

Actually there is hope if this happens. People have been trapped under ice for something like an hour in conditions like that and have been revived with no permanent damage.
I have heard that the worst way to die would be to be boiled to death.

I am afraid of nothing except women.

Cerys

Apparently drowning is strangely pleasurable, once you've got past the struggling, gulping and abject terror.  How that came to be documented is a bit of a mystery, though.

"It's okay, you're in hospital - we pulled you out of the water just in time!"
"You bastards!  That was better than the best sex ever...!"

Rats

Did anyone else picture not george, dripping in leathers "yeah, wonder how they documented that Cerys. I only said I was enjoying it so you'd let me live"

Ooh, that made me feel all warm in a special, secret girl place....

Jesus, my porn stash is on fire. You're evil Cery's. Evil.

You really ARE trying to inflame the single blokes on here tonight, aren't you?  ;-)

Nearly getting run over (by a car)...it happens quite a lot to me.

I'm not trying to!  It's a complete coincidence.  Honest.

Yes I agree, she deserves to be spanked. But come on, just because you aren't single doesn't mean that you didn't make the "something to get hold of" grabby, grabby motion when you saw that picture. It's an instinctive reflex in all males. Oh, and I'd rather be single than double chinned. I know you weren't being nasty but I'm not letting that joke go to waste.

Jimmy

The sea and drowning. Definately.

When I started college, we did these stupid introduction excercises where there is a sheet with questions and you had to read out yours to the class, stuff like "what's your favourite item of clothing" etc

Anyway, as it went round the class, people were saying things like "dying alone" in response to the question asking what our biggest fear was.
Finally it got round to me, and I'll never forget my english tutors face as I read out "my biggest fear is being sealed inside a large metal box, which is then subsequently thrown in the sea..."

She said "do you really think thats likely?"

re: the aerosol and lighter trick. I know someone who did this, and made the mistake of holding on too long, allowing the flame to travel back into the can, lodging razor sharp shards of metal into his hands.

Cerys

I'm shocked.  No, really.  The shock is writ large on my face.

Anyway, to get back on topic, I've thought of something that scares me: the idea of people I love dying.  If I find myself thinking about it, I have to tell myself to stop, just in case thinking makes it happen.  I'm getting edgy just typing this.

Quote from: "Ambient Sheep"Well it always used to be dry-drowning, i.e. drowning in a grain silo or whatever; my fears about this were reinforced by a BBC drama shown sometime in the early 80s that featured a particularly grisly scene of this

Did you ever see that Public Safety nasty that did the rounds in primary schools in the early 80s? - I think it was called something Apaches. It was about the grisly deaths a group of children suffer one by one as they're playing on a farm. They take it in turns to be poisoned, electrocuted, eaten by machinery, crushed by tractors and drowned in a slurry pit - whoever dreamed it up must have been the world's most malevolent paedophobe. It seriously shook me up - which even Halloween & Night of the Living Dead had failed to do. I wouldn't go anywhere near a farm for years afterwards - even now there's still this vesitigial sense of them as execution centres.

Probably the only thing that really scares me now is the prospect of bumping into a psychotic termagant ex-girlfriend of mine. She really was terrifying (you can imagine her being raised on that farm - and surviving). Also - I'm scared stiff of going bald at the back. Oh, and of having my teeth smashed - I'm not so bothered with the idea of having them knocked out - but the sensation of them crunching & splintering & ending up with just the jagged shards & rope-ends of nerves left there - that thought shits me up. But thats it. Except for something cropping up that leaves me obliged to disembowel myself. Or suddenly coming-to to find I was impaled  on a railing. Or to find I'd had all my limbs amputated. Or that I had some kind of huge parasitic worm living in my brain - & every time I felt light-headed & my consciousness was flickering I'd be aware it was eating my brain.  Or for my skin to suddenly fall off. Or to swallow my tongue - that would be bloody horrible. Or breaking my finger. Or stepping on a drawing pin. Or grazing my elbow on tarmac. Or breathing in a spore. Or getting cold.

Fuck. This thread's left me a nervous fucking wreck.

ccab

Oh fuck. That was my 13th post.

Cerys

Calm, calm ... big deep (sporeless) breaths, now.  And ... rest.

Smackhead Kangaroo

This thread feels familiar, there's definitely some deja vu.

Infinity. - this may be conected to some sort of existential fear.

being buried alive and suffocating, In conjunction that feeling of being smothered.

Mirrors in the dark (or near dark)

I used to fear death. I think there  was osmething connected to the infinity fear in this one. I just used to imagine a never ending black void. Of course now I don't really have that fear. I think I just blanked it out because it worried me too much. humans are good at being irrational.

Another fear I thought of is dying in an atomic bomb blast like the dream sequence in terminator two.

or surviving that only to die of radiation poisoning later on.

Drowning in a sinking ship is one of my fears. Bloody awful recurring nightmare.
