as the princess said to the black woman

gotta love that link next to the story, "child fat and dead aged 3". mmm, sensitive

another royal cock-up then, is it time we shipped them all off back to germany?

Purple Tentacle

Now before someone gets hysterical and accuses me of being Bernard Manningyawn I'm NOT defending what she said, silly rich tart, but I heard the offended lady in question on Channel 4 News last night....

....JESUS CHRIST she was annoying, the absolute worst, stereotypical, boisterous overbearing nightmare I've heard for quite some time, jesus.  If I was unfortunate enough to sit next to her in a restaurant (especially an expensive one) I think I'D have a few choice words to say to her, although admittedly I'd lay off the racial abuse.

Didn't she realise that they were already IN the colonies? Cuh.

If i remember right does Princess Michael not have some serious Nazi connections somewhere in her family?

her father was supposedly in the ss, but it was an honourary rank only and he didn't get up to any naughtiness.

re: Child fat and dead aged 3, for fucksake i've just spat pure venom on to my screen.

as for Princess Michael, stupid fucking name for a girl. I love these things though, they just show the Royals up for what they are. I just wish she'd taken matters a step further and started jumping about chucking bananas and making monkey noises.

Thats the one, i think a Google is in order.

Why do the Royals seem to be immune from fallout for racist abuse? Any MP or celebrity saying half as much the Royals, would be thrown out of the public spot light.

She's had an Argos facelift, I see.

michael's barely ever in it apart from when she or hubby are embroiled in a scandal. the higher-profile ones will never leave the spotlight until we no longer have a royal family

Quote

The term "Honourary SS" was used to describe those (particularly businessmen and aristocrats) who held nominal SS ranks but who had no direct function or role in the SS itself. This was all part of a plan by Himmler to tap potential financial sources. Holders of "Honourary SS" rank included old-style aristocrats such as the Grand Duke of Meckenburg and the Princes of Waldeck and Hesse, Crown Prince Rupprecht (the son of ex-Kaiser Wilhelm II), foreign minister Joachim von Ribbentrop (whose son Rudolf, incidentally, fought with great distinction in the Waffen-SS, winning the coveted Knight's Cross), and the father of the Princess Michael of Kent.
The British media explosion and the furore over the latter issue was an illustration of popular misconception. While the layman is made to believe that Princess Michael's father was a some kind of War Criminal, the stark reality is that he probably did nothing more than entertain fellow "Honourary" members with dinner in the castle and game-hunting in the Oberpfalz!

Allegedly.

"I was a CORGI-registered gas fitter but wouldn't touch the stuff, mind" ;-)

...but wouldn't it be preferable to be able to say...

I am of German decent but my family left in 1932 when the Nazi's came to power.

or

My father turned down an honourary membership of the SS on moral grounds and was strung up with piano wire.

My aristocratic father thoroughly approved of the ideology and methodology of the Nazi's and believed they were doing a spot on job at sorting out lazy and poor people who just couldn't be bothered to be privileged or rich.

The Nazi's didn't do that though, their political stance was very much "working man" orientated, hence National Socialists.

Fuck me, now it sounds like I'm defending the Nazis.......

Do you reckon? I've always thought that that was purely opportunism. They weren't socialists in any meaningful sense - and they were completely opposed to communism from the beginning. They also supported the aristocratic principle of right-to-rule being transmitted genetically, and supported ownership of industry and services by private individuals. Their values were essentially extremely bourgeois. They were radicalised, traumatised Daily Mail readers - suicide bombers in Marks and Spencers slacks.

falafel

Why the hell would anybody call their daughter Michael?

MojoJojo

[Trying to rememebr my history GCSE]

Didn't the Nazi's effectively make many German industries Public? Or were Nazi party memebers just put in charge of major industries?

Labour Unions were disbanded, but replaced with workers groups or something, which always had a Nazi party member on, I think.

Uhhh, also, one of the tenents of Nathional Socialism was "No Income Unnearned Through Work", which is basically having a go at Landlords and stuff. Which is fairly Socialist.

But yes, the Nazi's were basically opportunist, and didn't have much consistent ideology, as far as I know.

sproggy

Having just heard the poor love describe her terrifying racist ordeal, I'm surprised she didn't get a smack in the chops.  She's got more mouth than cow's got cunt, I pity anybody in that restaurant having to put up with that mouth on a stick.

Hornet

The offended woman in question is a New York cable TV fashion journalist.

Well what a surprise.  Stupid loud-mouthed bitch - heard her on TV whining and she pissed me right off.  Almost as much as that silly cow Princess Michael - funny name for a girl.................?

In all honesty I don't know TOO much about Nazi policy as I find the subject a bit too uncomfortable and repellent, and ALL history books about the Nazis always have a huge swastika or picture of Hitler on the cover, which makes me look like a neo-nazi on the tube, and doesn't go down too well in Acton.

From what I've gathered from Nazi rhetoric, Hitler was proud of his working class origins and his struggle through the good ol' blood and sweat, opportunism and god-given destiny.
Just never struck me as a lover of the aristocracy to be honest, although I'm sure he was happy to cosy up to them for political gain. I'm fairly sure the aristocracy secretly thought he was a jumped up little prick, and the feeling may have been mutual.

But then again it's all a bit hazy.  Ms_Tentacle has read Mein Kampf, which means she's now on that database like in Se7en and can expect Brad Pitt to kick her back doors in any day now.  The dirty bugger.

elderford

The Fuhrer was working class, his dad was a customs official. He never made it to officer rank in WW1, but he was awarded an iron cross (2nd class I think) for bravery (delivering post in the trenches).

After WW1 he dossed about a bit, an was then taken on by the army to infiltrate various political movements, one of which was the National Socialist German Workers Party.

Long story short: ended up in charge of it, tried a bit of an overthrow, got an extremely leniant sentence, dictated Mein Kampf.

And hit on the brilliant idea of coming to power legally and then go about setting up the 1,000 year Reich.

This is where the rich/aristocratic come in: There is a school of thought that they treated him as their trained monkey, giving him access to influencial people, finance, and stuff (bear in mind during one of the final election campaigns in the the very early 30s he flew by personal aeroplane on a national speaking tour).

The idea was that as a thicky rabble rouser the Fuhrer could be controlled by the people who knew best. Tabloid readers in Germany would be happy that their man was in charge but in reality the people who knew best would be.

Anyhow, that soon went tits up and the Germans should never have voted him in as he had already written in Mein Kampf about ten years earlier that he was a maniac.

The National Socialist German Workers Party, did have a huge amount of decent god fearing workers support, they were they ones who wore the lovely brown uniforms and were known as Brownshirts (the SA). But as soon as the Fuhrer got in he sorted out any potential rivalries with his "Night of The Long Knives", when the organisation was purged.

Slowly but steadily they won more and more seats in the German Parliament, eventually getting a say in stuff because of the need for co-alitions to form majority governments, and eventually they had enough say so for the Fuhrer to made Chancellor, and that was it really, see: Nuremburg Laws.

However they did make fabulous roads: see Kraftwerk Autobahn.

Were opposed to vivisection.

Got the kids off of the street with compulsory membership of the Hitler Youth.

Stopped the poor from being so lazy by getting them to build motorways and secretly re-arm the German Army, as well as land programmes.

Introduced compulsory sterilisation and later death for the mentally ill (low IQ, retarded, etc as opposed to being say clinically depressed).

Encouraged mothers to stay at home and have kids (with payment schemes dependent on how many kids you had).

So everyone's agreed?  The nazi's were bloody nice blokes and hugely misunderstood.

I imagine I'll get some stick now.

elderford

No less unpleasant than the Soviet Union under Stalin, and we got along alright with that regime.

monkhouse terror

Hahaha, Princess Michael. What next? Princess Dave?

zozman

Didn't we get along quite well with Germany too for about 10 years prior to the war?

elderford

1918-39 was dominated by Tory governments, so I expect we did.
