Having stupidly long sets became a selling point for Springsteen didn't it? (i.e. No support act but you'd hear nearly every Springsteen song).

Always assumed the 5 LP live album released around his peak basically being a bit of a nod to the length of his shows

Bought tickets for Damnation Festival (Leeds, November, doom and thrash metal but trust me, it's brilliant) and Underneath the Stars Festival in August (Kate Risby and other assorted folkies).

I've never made it to Damnation despite it being local and covering some of my interests. I don't really like Stylus as a venue, you need to be fucking good to overcome the fact that it's a student club night place with a fucked up lay out.

However Pallbearer and Pig Destroyer may change my mind.

Having said that, my favourite, New Model Army seemed to have come up with a wheeze, a FIVE HOUR gig!  Cor!  You have to go home and have a rest half way through but that’s probably for the best.  Is this a new thing or have other bands been doing this for a while now?

Keiji Haino is the king of this
There were gigs around the turn of the century where you were actively encouraged to piss off to the bar/toilet and wander back in to see he had switched from 60 minutes of electronic noise to a 45 minute drum solo

Just bought a Rocket From The Crypt ticket because they are my absolute boys even though they're charging THIRTY QUID to see them now. Nick Cave the next day. Sorry can't come into work, genuflecting injury.

Wait what? RFTC are touring again? I would pay 30 notes for that, plus 30 notes to the babysitter because they rock so fucking hard.

I saw them last time they were over in a little venue called Patterns in Brighton and they were magnificent as expected. We had a spare ticket due to a last minute drop out and my friend's work colleague got it cheap and attended her first ever rock gig, RFTC in a small sweaty club. Blew her mind.

'Scream, Dracula, Scream!' kicks off with their three biggest hits in sequence and was my personal starting point way back in '94. I've loved them ever since so it might be a good in. My favourite two albums song for song are 'Group Sounds' and 'Circa: Now!' but it's all pretty great really.

They were fantastic.
Still a tight-as-fuck live band.

Thomas Ankersmit performing work inspired by Maryanne amacher.
He is INSIDE MY FUCKING HEAD
Even if you are not a fan of noise /abstract electronics/whatever the fuck - I really recommend this to anyone.. Amacher got her kick from what she called 'eartones'. Compositions that cause your hearing and brain to trigger their own sounds.
First time I saw this I got claustrophobic as fuck and almost needed to leave the venue.
If that isn't a recommendation then i don't know what is.

Faust at Leeds Brudenell on May 11th!  God's in his heaven and all's right with the world.

I wonder how the new stuff will go down live.
I had expected the new album to fully blow my mind but on first few listens it is not quite connecting. There are bits which remind me of Danny Elfman and not in a good way.

Edit: royally ballsed up the quote

There is a lot of the new Holly Herndon LP about it, that's not a good thing.

That's a subjective opinion of course.

Going to see Swans in August. Never seen them before will it be good?

OHHMS in Ramsgate last night.
Fuck me they were loud.
Really bloody good though, albeit not something I could listen to all the time.
My friends band were supporting, being the reason that I went.
They were great too, in a nu-metal kinda way.

Bring good earplugs.
The consensus is that Swans are one of the best live acts around.
That is probably true but i have mixed feelings about the shows I've been to.
I think it comes down to the first 10 minutes. If you are immediately fully absorbed, it is going to be great. However if you go in with slightly the wrong frame of mind then I don't think the material is going to turn you around. Last time I saw them it felt a bit of a slog but the person I was with thought it was great (and they have seen them multiple times).

Saw Vodun Sunday before last. Then OHHMS at a small 50 capacity venue on Friday. Slabdragger Sunday just gone. Vodun was undoubtedly the highlight - I invited a friend who'd never been to a 'metal' gig and she absolutely loved Vodun.

So this thread is now dead for the near future.
The last live show I saw was a Japanese guy in a local cafe.
My calendar was blocked and leading up to Rewire festival which looked tremendous.
For those with festival tickets in the summer, good luck.

Damo Suzuki cancelled, despite him appearing in a venue which couldn't hold more than 500 people at full capacity. Ah well. Refund automatic, which makes a nice difference.

Yeah, I'm now pretty much resigned to missing out on everything I've booked to see this spring/summer, including all of Primavera. Booked up to see Viagra Boys in November, assuming the world is back to normal by then at least.

Was that the one with Michael Rother?

I'm seeing 50/50 bands still playing and those pulling out.  Deserfest is looking shaky.

Seems like September is going to be THE month at this rate.  Desertfest is still on (?!) and sweet little Redd Kross only found out about all this yesterday so they’re doubtful they can come over next month.

I'm pinning my hopes on the lockdown being over by mid June. If my Rammstein and High on Fire gigs are cancelled I'm going to hunt the virus down and kick its cunt in.
