Where did you hear this?  Is this just for existing PSN Plus customers or everyone?

Sorry yes, I was replying about the Xbox Live outtage a few years ago one christmas.

Kazuo Hirai - PSN Relaunch Announcement

now all I need to do is download the system update.

after 7 attempts the furthest i've got is 47% before encountering errors.

Edit: Save time, Go here uk.playstation.com/ps3-361 and put on a memory stick.

leelo

Hmmm, I was pissed off, but that muzak mellowed me the fuck out.

An tSaoi

Do I, as a non credit card user, qualify for any freebies, and if so how do I get them?

Penfold

I think everyone gets free stuff to make up for the outage.

I don't think it's been announced which free games will be available yet but will probably find out this week.

chocky909

Looks like PSN is on the way back. I'm downloading the update right now.

EDIT which is old news obviously... nyeh

Subtle Mocking

The OP obviously meant in dog years.

chocky909

It's not even back up properly yet. I've updated but PSN is still 'undergoing maintenence'.

I just watched the anime 'Summer Wars' today which is a much more fun depiction of a large online network being hacked. Real life is crap.

Ok can we make a list of all the 'free' stuff available to download before our month is up please?

Quote from: SCEENow that certain PSN services have been restored and you're once again enjoying online gaming, it seems a good time to confirm what is being offered as part of the Welcome Back programme.
Once we restore PlayStation Store, which will be just a little while longer, you will have the opportunity to claim your Welcome Back gifts. Please note that the Welcome Back programme is only available for those countries with access to PlayStation Store*.
All existing PlayStation Network members will be able to access the following from PlayStation Store*:
Two PS3 games from the following list:

LittleBigPlanet
Infamous*
Wipeout HD/Fury
Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty
Dead Nation*

For those with PSP accounts, you will also be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list:
LittleBigPlanet PSP
ModNation PSP
Pursuit Force
Killzone Liberation*

- 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PS Plus subscribers*
- Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will be given 60 days free subscription.
- For existing Music Unlimited subscribers, you will be given 30 days free subscription.
- We are working on a Welcome Back offer in PlayStation Home and will share that when it is confirmed.

I would like to thank all of the developers and publishers involved in this programme for their support in making this happen. We certainly couldn't have done it without you.
You will be able to access this content once PlayStation Store comes back online and we are doing everything we can to make that happen as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support and keep checking back on the blog for more information.
For eligibility for the welcome back programme consumers must be an account holder on 20 April 2011. Specific details about these offers and eligibility requirements will be posted as the services go live. All existing PSN registrants have 30 days from when the welcome back programme goes live to redeem their content.
For the German market, InFamous and Dead Nation will be replace with Super Stardust HD and Hustle Kings in the selection of PS3 games.
For the German market, Pursuit Force and Killzone Liberation will be replaced with Everybody's Golf 2 and Buzz Junior Jungle Party in the selection of PSP games. Killzone Liberation will not offer online gameplay functionality.
Access to the 30 days free PS Plus subscription is only available for those countries where PS Plus is offered. You will have access to the PS Plus content planned for May for 30 days. Access to the free games and exclusive features finishes at the end of the 30-day subscription period. Anything you buy with exclusive discounts, dynamic themes and premium avatars are yours to keep forever.

Any thoughts on the games? Infamous any good?

HURRY UP SONY I WANT MY FREE SHIT

Nice. Especially as I barely touch my PS3, so didn't really care about the downtime.

spanky

I'm impressed that the games they're offering are actual proper games, I was expecting those cheap 'n' cheerful PSN games (which I would have been perfectly happy with)

I had Infamous, it was pretty good. A sci-fi/superhero sandbox game where you choose between being good and evil.

I'm probably going for LBP and either Dead Nation or Wipeout, once I read up on both.

Utter Shit

What's the cutoff point for downloading these? I'm blatantly going to forget until the day after it ends.

spanky

Roughly a month:

Utter Shit

I hope this keeps happening, with Sony being forced to give out free gifts exponentially. This time next year they'll have to start giving out free PS3s to accommodate the free games they owe us.

Subtle Mocking

What's the point of free stuff when you don't have improved security? It's going to be a long rest of the month for Sony.

Santa's Boyfriend

The Playstation Store is back up, but I can't see anywhere to download my free games from.

Subtle Mocking

Don't think that'll be up, they're still working out the kinks. I think there'll be another update to optimise it, then we get free shit.

Depressed Beyond Tables

The email account (Gmail) that I used for my PS3 account was compromised and sent a load of spam out yesterday.

Just a warning to change your passwords.

Nik Drou

The 'Welcome Back' program is apparently now live, but one thing irks me.  You get 30 days free membership with Playstation Plus, but after that, whatever you get on it disappears!  Even the stuff that's discounted?  How does that work?  Boooo!! Edit:  Ah, it seems it's only the free stuff on Playstation Plus that'll get deleted, so I guess I'll have to buy Streets of Rage 2 again.

Anyhow, I already have Infamous and LittleBigPlanet.  Jolly good they are too, in fact I'm tempted to re-get them purely so they're on the hard drive.  That would be silly, though, so instead I've got to pick between Wipeout Fusion, Dead thingy and that Ratchet and Clank game.

Viero_Berlotti

Excuse my ignorance but how much space on the hard drive would full games like LBP and Infamous take up? Not sure I've got that much space left on mine.....

Depressed Beyond Tables

Prob 3-5 gigs in total I'd guess.

wheatgod

I get an error when trying the Playstation Store....

Nik Drou

Yup, me too.  That's a day of Playstation Plus wasted.
