What happened to Virtual Reality?

I've played the VR shooting game at London Trocadero - it's still in there despite being installed in the early to mid 90's, cost £2 a go.

Anyway it's a great idea, but let down by the technology. Biggest problem is the helmets weight; I remember  it being stupidly heavy. Also the little LCD screens for your eyes are ridiculously low res, so i could see the pixels - it was a blurry mess to be honest. That kind of ruined the 3d effect for me, so can't recall anything else of the game.

Video glasses are available that are light and high res, so definitely only a matter of time before it makes a come-back.
