Bobby Treetops

Never really like the original but this is just plain awful

100 Pepsi & Shirlie - All Right Now

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBVLEorAEnc

Thank fuck Ian Curtis wasn't around to hear this shite.

99 Paul Young - Love Will Tears Us Apart

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zrc1GB7YVe0

98 Kenny G -  Yesterday

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_0EtzGMwJM

Keep them coming

Johnny Townmouse

97. Mark Ronson - Stop Me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRG55KnZkqc

Believe I love The Fall, and could fill the other thread with many of their covers, but fuck me:

96. The Fall - White Lightning
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hwad0cqB3oQ

jutl

legspinner

94. Duran Duran - Diamond Dogs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYlgmmbv23c

This ain't rock 'n' roll, this is murder.

93. Travis - Hit Me BB 1 More Time

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acULghgYUg0

The most sexless, trite, insipid, simplistic, self-satisfied piece of shit performance I've ever heard.

Everything the original wasn't.

Bobby Treetops

92 My Chemical Romance - Desolation Row

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOuSxal8pf4

When I went to see 'The Watchman', as soon as the end credits began, we heard a split second of this record and then the projectionist turned the volume to mute. They may have been a Dylan fan or just had enough of listening to this shite cover version. I thank that projectionist for saving me from the suffering that this may have been caused to my ears.

91 Olivia Newton John – Ring Of Fire

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1XhojNxZEI

Just plain wrong.

Hah!  I really like that one.  Not sure why - it's not that I have time for anything else MCR have ever done.

I quite like the 'Sid Vicious at the end of Goodfellas'-esque use in Watchmen, too.

90. Lulu - The Man Who Sold The World (though the bad-ass sax earns the cover at least one plus point)
http://youtu.be/aN05HObT6Sw

89. Klaxons - It's Not Over Yet
http://youtu.be/x4yxoHwNzEE

88. Noah and The Whale - You Can Call Me Al

Subtle Mocking

Well, seeing as we're on a Chris Morris forum...

89. Howard 'haircut-bleurgh' Jones - I.G.Y.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=op5SI6KV9so

Fondly remembered from one of my favourite Morris GLR shows. Fucking dreadful cover. "I'd rather Gilbert O'Sullivan did a cover version comeback of I.G.Y.".

That's not even the worst cover of that song!

88. The Complete Stone Roses - Love Will Tear Us Apart
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQYg4Jq_DX8

Absolutely dire on every conceivable level. Made worse by the fact that former Joy Division members HELPED TO PRODUCE THE FUCKING THING. May as well have spat on Ian's Grave.

Or indeed any song on their ill-advised album of covers Thank You, regarded by many as one of the worst albums ever made.

dr_christian_troy

87. You're The One That I Want - Arthur Mullard & Hylda Baker

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_MSi0MhM_c

I'd love to see the 'making of' that music video.

Jemble Fred

Search for 'Your Song'. This unbearable fucking nails-down-the-blackboard shit is the TOP result.

86.  Deadsy - Brand New Love (Sebadoh)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNtYRzVteeg

85. Death Cab For Cutie - Brand New Love (Sebadoh) [twinned with one of their own shit songs]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HvevY-GKBs

84. Bright Eyes - Devil Town (Daniel Johnston)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3PoP85fxUk (even Andrea Corr managed a more passable Daniel Johnston cover than this)

83. Limp Bizkit - Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve) [take a bad song and make it worse]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN5Nh2Hergw

82.  Jeff Buckley - Kango Roo (Big Star)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrprtydmcNk

Oops! Wrong Planet

It was going to get posted sooner or later so let's get it over with:

81.  Take That - Smells Like Teen Spirit
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_ELGnmLJOs

(If you have a teenage neighbour who's just started rehearsing with his mates, there's no need to click that link.)

We had a similar thread before and this was my answer.

78. Godhead - Eleanor Rigby

77. Fall Out Boy - Love Will Tear Us Apart
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBKoXZUsfrE

I dare you to listen to the whole thing. And to read the description of the video without effing and blinding.

76. G4 - Creep

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kDzLnOc11k

An even more trying endurance challenge, for those with a particularly high pain threshold.

Chutney

Has Mark Ronson been involved in 100 cover versions?  An answer of "No" is the only possible justification I can see for this thread...

Haha no fucking way, I hold this in the same regard as Richard Cheese's cover. A complete fucking joke and a great one at that. There is a sense of humour in the original and it's exaggerated to excess both there and in the G4 cover. Better than the original.

Dare I admit that I think this is considerably better than the original?  And now I have that other Grace single about wanting to fly like she's Orville the fucking Duck or summat stuck in my head.  So, yeah, I'm liking this cover as revenge.

Depressed Beyond Tables

Light My Fire by some fucking twat Will.

Bonus points for that one being a cover of a cover of the original.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dLtiFrykqQ&feature=related (Jose Feliciano's rendition).

Everything the original wasn't.

That's implying the original was ever any good.  It was fucking shite to begin with.  I don't know where that myth of the song being good ever came from.

Talking of making a bad song worse:

71: Cascada - Truly Madly Deeply

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dBu-OmRYKQ

Subtle Mocking

70. Styrofoam and Sarah Shannon - I Found Love
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-NaWkszOLE

The original was so beautiful too. This is an atrocious mess.

Bobby Treetops

69 Michael Bolton-Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiRoltJYhas

Beware! This video contains some very scary mullets.

Wow. Making a Savage Garden song worse takes some fucking effort. Can't believe they managed it.
