Limmy on Twitter and webcam [split topic]

Neil

I have split and merged the Limmy discussions relating to his Twitter (DaftLimmy) and webcam shows (http://www.justin.tv/brianlimond) from the podcast, Limmy's Show series 1 and 2 threads, and have merged them together here.

I'm still only a few episodes in, but I love the evil marketing genius.  He's got a natural flair for story-telling, and it makes him one of the few worthwhile reasons to use Twitter.  He actually uses it in a creative, unique way, baiting his fans at times with the same sort of pedantry that is on display on his show... however, the best thing is when he tells night-time stories.  They're totally extemporaneous, and are formed round a suggestion from one of his followers.  He will quite often include his followers in the stories, too - for instance, last night the story was about a performer talking about palindromes, 'such as ASDA'.  Then he RT'd the comments from people saying 'that's not a palindrome.'  This doesn't sound like much, but it's a great touch that adds to the reality of the story.  Above and beyond that, it's just a clever way of using Twitter, and far removed from all the topical one-liner bull-shit you see on there from every other comedy type.

He hid a message in his avatar last night, too, and you got a charming little message when you decoded it.  Extremely creative bloke, always looking for new ways to do things.

Wow I wish the previous post had spoiler tags.

eh? wotsis about in-character twittering?

I think Neil's talking about Limmy himself on Twitter rather than one of his characters.

I agree about him being one of the few genuinely amusing, interesting and creative people on there (certainly in terms of how he uses it).

Bennygaylord

He's the best on Twitter. Seen him the other day, acting out a play argument with his bird.

The filename is the same, so it's probably still there...

Limmy's doing a live webcast on justin.tv right now

This one's unusually informative and non-confrontational. Look out for it on youtube, hopefully, folks.

sweet. I wish I had his capture software. it must require a good computer, right? all the programs i've dabbled with have come out with choppy, blurry, unusable crap.

He was just on justin.tv - and he'd done something to his setup (well had headset with mic on), because the picture was great quality and the audio much better than usual. I used to think the channel was just too popular to pump out a decent bitrate.

I thought that was ace just now.  Loved the bit where he started cracking up imagining the stereotypical Glaswegian response to not getting a "goodbye" from the boring cruise guests!

Is this twitter arguement between Richard Herring and Limmy a piss take? Or did Herring actually just call Limmy's fans stupid?

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

To be fair, for some reason a lot of the people who follow Limmy on Twitter don't appear to have a sense of humour. So why are they following a comedian? Most odd.

Neil

He's on twitcam now, takling about exam results, and amusingly corpsing:

Limmy on webcam tonight, spent ages trying to sort out some audio stuff so he could play music properly, just asking for tech support and stuff. Ended up with him accidentally looping his voice in really weird fashion, and promptly started making a weird collage of voices. So funny. Has gone on for about 10 minutes so far with no signs of stopping.

This archived webcam is amazingly watchable. I went through it in one sitting. It starts off with some comments on exam results and GCSE subjects, then (25mins) he talks about the Richard Herring twitter altercation.

Only watched the Richard Herring bit so far, but that was great.  Been sitting watching a couple more, and the outburst in this one had me in fits:

This really tickled me too:

Brilliant actor.  Always great at mixing menacing aggression, and his natural charm.  Should be snapped up as the new Hannibal Lecter, or somesuch.  One of the smartest, most compelling characters in British comedy for christ knows how long.

kitsofan34

Why do we keep flip flopping from one thread to another whilst talking about his twitter/webcam work?

Artemis

I'm not sure, kitsofan34. I wish people would stop doing it though. It can be quite confusing.

I really liked this bit:

I briefly wondered if this started all the "girls in your area" tags, but I guess that's pretty unlikely.

kitsofan34

If you haven't seen his "Partycam" one yet, I strongly recommend it.

Watched this earlier.  Laughed like an idiot.
It's his 'Kickstart Cam' webcam show from yesterday morning to get your Monday off to an energetic start.

The good news is that he's getting more prolific with the webcam too.

Famous Mortimer

I think I pulled a muscle in my neck doing those exercises.

Last night's was great, the story of Martin[nb]I was desperately hoping for a Chairman Mao reference.[/nb]. There wasn't that much content, but he stretched it out with a great telling.

I was listening on my iPod Touch through the Justin.tv app, in bed, in the dark. He'd be a great late night radio presenter. But of course he'd not have a tenth of the freedom and the interaction with the chat room.

Neil

On now!  http://www.justin.tv/brianlimond/

Was worried he was going to be GENUINELY apologising about his Gadaffi-supporting, but he's just said 'I've lost about 5 facebook followers, so feel I have to apologise...'  Lot of corpsing, too.

Phew.  Thank goodness.

Heh.  Surely you know his schtick by now?  I'm surprised so many were fooled by the apology.

kitsofan34

Did anyone else rather ashamedly laugh at his Gaddafi "Legend" avatar? Please don't say it was just me.

I accept the terms of the

He's singing along to You Win Again and claiming it's about sexual abuse. I love him so much.
