Super Hexagon sounds like a fucking terrible choice to stream, mind.

Aye, he thought so himself - sacked it off after about three minutes

One thing struck me though... How much money has "Hellwhiskers" tipped to Limmy?!?! He's just chucked him fifty quid and seems to throw a couple of quid every ten minutes or so. I think I could survive just from the amount that this Hellwhiskers chap tips.

Yeah, this is one of the strangest parts of the streams for me. Just from having them on in the background, the phrase "Hellwhiskers, thanks for the two quid" is burned into my brain. You've got other cunts like Nilesy constantly doing it as well, incredible waste of money

Literally paying money for the privilege of saying a few words to him. Mental.

It's really not something I care that much about, but I've "subbed" twice through the Amazon prime thing and both times my name didn't pop up on screen or get a thank you. Does it not happen with Amazon subs?

There's usually a prompt within the chat window which will say something like 'Celebrate your 2 month anniversary' and if you click on that Limmy will be notified of your (re)subscription (and you can attach a message to it as well).

This prompt only appears for about 30 seconds when you load up the page but it will appear again when you refresh.

Back in the YouTube days a guy chucked Limmy £500 in a oner (and a lot more in smaller donations). Madness.

Puce Moment

When I signed up with Prime it popped up. I didn't ask a question, I just wrote 'twat' which he mentioned.

I don't like to judge, but I do find the neediness quite off-putting. It's fucking Limmy, not Stanley Kubrick. Better off saving your money, get a train to Glasgow and then ask him questions whilst he queues for some alcohol free beer in Tesco's.

Yes. As he said in his autobiography sometimes he gets chatting to fans and they have to make an excuse to end the conversation.

Is he trying to goad his more annoying fans with the BAMO stuff on twitter these days? Definitely remember he used to have a "no politics please" rule but the blocking examples that he's bringing up tend to be going against that.

HellWhiskers tipped £250 once or maybe it was £200. Either way I did wonder if they were ok, they'd always tip to leave an annoying bit of banter or I can't explain it, a way to rib limmy. limmy said one time and I paraphrase - "hellwhiskers thanks for the two quid but I have no idea what you're talking about" "terrible patter"

I haven't been watching limmy regularly lately, is HellWhisker still tipping?

Yes, still throwing Limmy £2 a pop so he can pretend to be his friend.

Mad isn't it? That's what it boils down to.

I think Twitch looks like a gaudy illuminated casino, with all its unnecessary screen furniture and red circles; or perhaps like the jackasses' amusement park from Disney's Pinocchio. The buzzword "parasocial" (relationship) is something I am thankful for having no real conception of, though perhaps only because my social needs are so meagre. Then again, I suppose that the term applies to those whose even meagre social needs are not being met - not for free.

peanutbutter

I imagine quite a lot of Twitch channels get a ridiculous portion of their money from a small number of absolutely minted lonely people.

I wish Limmy would stick to a game he could get his teeth into. Past couple of months seem to be playing about 5 games in every stream. I understand that he doesn't want to lose viewers so tries to offer a variety within the stream, but I miss Warzone, Life Is Strange and Contradiction type streams.

Is there just a paucity of games out there?

Yeah and me actually, I like the longer form ones

peanutbutter

Whats Warzone?

There's definitely been a big drop off in things like life is strange, telltale going bust so embarrassingly has probably killed that kind of mid budget thing for a while.

To be fair to mid budget games, TellTale was shockingly badly run. They lost money on every game they made by overpaying for the IP license and underpaying on advertising/promotion*, and didn%u2019t think to change their model at all.

%u201CWe will just do this same thing again, but this time the result will definitely be different! ...oh no, we don%u2019t have any money now%u201D

*notable (and only?) exception being the Walking Dead game which became a hit via word of mouth so they got away with the underspend on advertising. It%u2019s the exception that proves the rule though.

Yeah my point is that, even if the format itself is perhaps not as sustainable as people maybe thought circa 2014, the sheer horribleness of Telltale's bombing leaves a stench that goes way beyond their own dumb business practices. The key reference points for that kind of longer form narrative driven thing atm are Telltale and David Cage. Indie devs seem to have (rightly) switched to making smaller projects they can spit out a bit quicker instead of drowning for a decade on some grandiose thing too.

Underpaying on development too, did Telltale do any advancements with their format after the Walking Dead?

Ferris

A fair point!

To your point on development, the issue I had with TellTale games was the choices were annoyingly hollow. I enjoyed the stories but there was essentially zero replay value at all. To test, I played The Wolf Among Us by pressing circle for every decision. It played out almost exactly the same as when I was thinking about responses and where I wanted to go etc (might have even been exactly the same now think of it).

Maybe that's just a very tight narrative, but at a certain point right narrative becomes restrictive and it feels like none of it matters. The writing was also a bit ropey in parts, which seems to be par for the course in some of these more "open" dialogue games. I'm not knocking them, but if that's your core mechanic you should probably put significant time into making it click.

Did Limmy take down his World of Glasgow Youtube channel in the last couple of days? deeboi70 has them all uploaded too but I was listening to them in order and deeboi's uploads aren't in the same order (woe is me)

Yeah, I knew a bloke once whom I met via Team Fortress 2. He was the son of an oil tycoon in Azerbaijan and they had more money than god. He would weekly dump like $1000+ on Steam games he legitimately never played, purely because his ancestry came from nothing and he wanted to flaunt it. He would dump shitloads into casinos, TF2 hats, and streamers, too. Not that bad a chap, though. When he found out how much I earn a month (in the few hundred bracket) he offered to buy me most of my games wishlist if I'd play games with him. Not ashamed to admit I accepted a couple gifts from him, but I sort of balked at the idea of having some internet sugar daddy buy me everything. We parted on good terms -- he was pruning his list one day and asked if we would play TF2 again. I'd given it up by that point so I sort of gave him a shrug. Though I can't for the life of me remember his username anymore.

He was nice overall, but a bit of a flat conversationalist. It was very clear that almost all of his social experience was with the service industry and via the internet. He really loved shit-talking and what Limmy would call "patter" or "bad patter",  since he was used to unerring politeness in most people he met -- usually because it was for service reasons or a family function that required a veneer of social nicety. He called me a 'straight talker' despite the fact I didn't really cut through any particular bullshit when interacting with him, I just acted naturally. He was, also, weirdly in love with the idea of meeting a Georgian lady, since apparently there was an increased diaspora of Georgians in Azerbaijan after the war between Russia and Georgia.

A very colorful chap.

He seems to be quite paranoid about being cancelled so, yes, he probably has.
