MORE FESTIVE CHEER PLZ

i've been trawling the internet finding alternative christmas albums and singles for a playlist i'm making, so i can entertain both sides of our families in the days before, and then for just me and the missus again on christmas day, until i'm just as sick to the back teeth with these songs as i am with the jackson 5's 'i saw mommy kissing santa claus', and i've found some cracking results, some of which i would like to share with you all in the hope of getting some equally dope suggestions in return. it is the fucking season after all.

here we go then. starting with some dope-as-hell hip hop jams:

Bing Crosby - Happy Holidays (Beef Wellington Remix)

Snoop Doggy Dogg - Santa Claus Goes Straight To The Ghetto

Dean Martin - Jingle Bells (Dan The Automator Remix)

...and some indie rock cheer to follow...

Julian Casablancas - I Wish It Was Christmas Today

The Hives & Cyndi Lauper in 'A Christmas Duel'

The White Stripes - Candy Cane Children

...followed by some older alternative/lesser played hits...

Count Basie - Jingle Bells - a Blue Note banger!

Beach Boys - Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

Ella Fitzgerald - Silent Night

James Brown - Please Come Home For Christmas

The Ventures - Sleigh Ride - surf rock christmas! i really love this album.

...and finally, the true alternative spirit of christmas!

Ren & Stimpy - I Hate Christmas

there's gotta be something for everyone in there, even if you're a miserable cunt the last track is just for you, so reciprocate the cheer and show me your alternative christmas jingles!

Johnny Yesno

Rosa Mundi (John Balance & Rose McDowall) - The Snow Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCa2johwTDM

Rosa Mundi (Coil) - Christmas Is Now Drawing Near: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYG-fCQP8AI

COCTEAU TWINS - FROSTY THE SNOWMAN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pds_K2j3RKM

Cocteau Twins - Winter Wonderland: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Vm9_mXmtKo (Hmm...)

And the music that helps me cope with going to the supermarket over the Christmas period:

Cassetteboy - Festive Christmas (Part 1 of 2): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZmtJCOe4Os

It's hard to find Frank Sinatra depressing when you've heard him singing 'And Santa Claus has got a big fat cock!'.

This thread is making coming up with an decent, original track in the CaB Advent Calander thread even harder.

Of course, if you want to make people feel even more depressed at Christmas, you can always rely on 'Laughing' Will Oldham.

A depressing Christmas thread could be a good idea actually, maybe next year.

You could plunder Slow Club's Christmas EP of which 'It's Christmas and You're Boring Me' is my favourite.

You can't go wrong with "The My Pal God Holiday Record" vol. 1 & 2.

The pick of which for me is this wonderful nugget (sorry about myspace).

I played it to my family last christmas due to badgering questions about my favourite christmas song. My uncle said it was depressing, then proceeded to say that "Stay Another Day" by East 17 was his favourite - a song which as far as I can tell has nothing to do with christmas, but it happened to be released then so they chucked some bells over the end bit. And FFS it's about someone leaving and being begged to stay.

This is brilliant; a ghetto version of Langley Schools.

Craig Charles recently played this Desmond Decker Christmas song on the radio. I think it's dreadful and was possibly recorded to fulfil a contractual obligation.
